Associate director of the Museo Archivo Histórico of the Spanish Society of Neurology. ABSTRACT Introduction. This article describes various historical aspects of healthcare at Hospital Universitari Vall d’Hebron. Methods. Documentation was collected and reviewed from the historical archive of the city of Barcelona, the archives of the Diocese of Barcelona, and the historical archive of the Centre Excursionista de Catalunya, the manuscripts section of the Biblioteca de Catalunya, and the literature on the Hieronymite monastery of Saint Jerome in Vall d’Hebron and Hospital Vall d’Hebron. Data of healthcare and neurological interest were collected. Results. Today’ s Hospital Vall d’Hebron stands on the site of a farm that belonged to the royal monastery of Saint Jerome in Vall d’Hebron. The monastery, of which only traces remain today, had an infirmary, pharmacy, hostelry, and a hospital for the poor, and provided healthcare to Hieronymite monks, guests, pilgrims, and poor people from the time of its foundation (1393) to its secularisation (1835). The monastery was used as a lazaretto during the yellow fever and cholera epidemics in Barcelona, in 1821 and 1834, respectively. The 1903 urban plan for greater Barcelona allocated the area for the “placement of a hospital.” The fact that the land was owned by the state and the site’ s salutary characteristics made it ideal for the construction of a large healthcare complex outside of the city centre: the Residencia Sanitaria Francisco Franco (1955).

The Mesozoic of Artesa de Segre: stratigraphic precisions and tectonic-sedimentary analysis of the south-pyrenean "front" between Artesa de Segre and Camarasa (Catalonian Pyrenees, Spain). The know mesozoic outcrops of Artesa de Segre at the southeastern limit of the South-Pyrenean Central Unit (Catalonian Pyrenees) is the object of: 1st, stratigra phical precisions; 2nd, some tectonic and sedimentary considerations which are the origin of a more extensive analysis. In this, are treated the space-temporal rela- tionship of structural sedimentary order between the southern border of the South- Pyrenean Central Unit and the Tertiary of the foreland basin (Catalan Central Basin). We intend to interpret correctly the different sedimentary episodes (detrital and evaporitic) of the foreland basin establishing their succession, dating them by Charophytes and following their cartography from the border of the Catalan Central Basin to above the South-Pyrenean Units. As a result we have: 1st. that the ocurrence of this south-pyrenean border must have taken place during the evaporitic sedimentation of the Upper Eocene; 2nd, that the post "nappe" sedimentation (Uppermost Eocene-Oligocene) is slightly conglo- meratic at first, later evaporitic and finally once again detrital; 3rd, that the visible tectonic contacts are all younger. Finally there is a doubt whether the border studied was the true front of the South-Pyrenean Central Unit during the tangential phase of the Upper Eocene-Oligocene time.

    TERMINOLOGY USED BY CATALAN BASKET-MAKERS Dolores Soriano 'I'he Catalan terminology for basketry is different from the Spanish terminology. The Catalan, unlike the Spanish has one special name for each part of the basket. This terminolgy was collected from the Catalan basket-makers all around Zatalonia, in different fields of basket work, during the years 1978, 1979 and 1980. The terminology and the techniques use11 now by the Catalan basket-makers are snown in this report. I. TECHNIQUES OF BASKETRY USED BY CATALAN BASKET-MAKERS. 1. Woven Technique ("Tecnica Teixida" ) . 1.1. Diagonal braiding of two directions ("Diagonal de dues direccions") . Or twilled work. - In this technique each element of the weft passes over one, two or more warp elements. Both warp and weft strands are brought together in pairs and one twined about the other. Use: to make the plaited strand of alfalfa and palmetto Geographical localization: Marseme (Tordera), Baix Ebre (Els Reguers, Beni- fallet, Alfara dels Ports), Baix ~m~ord: ('I'orroella de Montgri) and ~onsi; (~2s de Barberans) . 1.2. Diagonal weave of three directions: triangular weave ("Diagonal composta de tres directions") . The warp is made by a pair of rods, knotted to a hoop of iron with a nylon thread. Each pair is spread at a 45O angle: 'The one on the right runs downwards and the left upwards. One rod goes up spirally to the hoop of iron and is tied to the rest of the warp with a nylon thread, forming a series of triangular structures. Use: the baskets made with myrtle, rush and cane are used for fishing: basket of fish ("gambines" ) , lobster- pot ("nansa," "cistella de peix") .

Els canvis socioeconòmics esdevinguts durant aquest període, lligats bàsicament al despoblament que va patir, es traduïren en una important reducció d’aquest nombre. S’agruparen municipis i en sorgiren de nous amb gran extensió, com és el cas de Tremp, el municipi més gran de Catalunya. MATA-PERELLÓ i Joaquim SANZ BALAGUÉ ADVERTIMENT PREVI Com en altres recorreguts de RECERCA GEOLÒGICA I MINERALÒGICA ..., si es disposa del temps suficient, poden efectuar-se passant per totes les parades i filloles. En cas contrari, recomanem prescindir de les anomenades PARADES - CONDICIONALS. Recomanem, per d’altra banda, tenir una absoluta cura envers de la Natura, tant al llarg del recorregut, com fora d’ell, en tot moment. BREU INTRODUCCIÓ En aquesta ocasió, el recorregut de l’itinerari discorrerà, en la seva quasi totalitat pel Sistema Pirinenc, i més concretament ho farà per la seva Unitat Sudpirinenca Central (tradicionalment anomenada amb el nom de les Serres Exteriors Prepirinenques). Aquest és el cas del recorregut entre les poblacions d´Ager i Camarasa i també entre les de Figuerola de Meià i Vilanova de Meià. Tot i així, un tram del recorregut de l’itinerari transitarà molt prop de l´anomenada zona de l´Avant-país plegat (de la Depressió Geològica de l´Ebre), concretament pels voltants de Camarasa.
