The purpose is to provide students, parents and carers with information relating to the core curriculum (compulsory subjects), and the Option subjects which you may choose to study in years 9, 10 and 11. All students at Greenbank High School will study a broad and balanced curriculum and have the opportunity for some degree of specialism through their option subjects. The core curriculum includes: Maths English English French or Language Literature Spanish Religious Combined Core PE Studies Science Option Pathways All students will have additional option choices to complete their GCSE pathway. The majority of students will follow Pathway 1 and will choose a humanities option and two additional option subjects. Students on this pathway will therefore start studying for 10 GCSE subjects. Please note: Combined Science accounts for 2 GCSEs. Pathway 1 Where students may require additional support or have extended periods of absence, an alternative pathway is available. This alternative pathway would only be available to students following discussions with Mr Bentzen, Mrs Robinson and Mr Pritchard. Pathway 2 We will endeavour to allocate students their preferred option choices; however final decisions will ultimately depend on group sizes and staffing. Read through this booklet carefully. 2. Ask your parents, subject teachers, form tutor, PSHE teacher, Miss Edwards (Careers advisor) and Mr Bentzen for advice. 3. Make your decisions based on your interests and abilities (do not just follow your friends). 4. Attend the Options Evening for information and guidance on Tuesday 2nd April at 6:00pm 5. Fill in the form (page 5), have it signed by your parent/guardian and return it to your form tutor by Tuesday 23rd April (first day back after the Easter holidays). The aims and objectives in mathematics are to enable AQA students to: acquire, select and apply mathematical techniques to solve problems Key areas of study reason mathematically, make deductions and GCSE Mathematics covers a wide range of mathematical inferences, and draw conclusions knowledge and skills, grouped together into the comprehend, interpret and communicate following areas: mathematical information in a variety of forms Number appropriate to the information and context Algebra develop fluent knowledge, skills and Ratio, proportion and rates of change understanding of mathematical methods and Geometry and measures concepts Probability Statistics Assessment There are two tiers of entry: Beyond GCSE Foundation Tier – grades 1 to 5 Higher Tier – grades 4 to 9 A-Level Maths and Further Maths are options for pupils who wish to continue to study Maths beyond GCSE.
