These fields comprise 6A. lR. 38P., and are let for about £26 a year, of which £20 is paid to the schoolmaster for teaching poor children. The poor parishioners have the dividends of £114. 10s. 9d. three per cent. consols, pur­ chased with the gifts of Ann Best, John Sowdon, and others. They have .also a yearly rent-charge of £3, left by Thos. Sowdo_n, in 1733, out of Higher Southway estate; and the dividends of £112. 7s. 3d. three-and-a-half per cent. consols, left in 1837, by ~frs l\fary Brown, wife of the present rector. This Hundred is in the Southern·Division of Devon, in the Arch­ deaconry of Exeter, and all in the Deanery of Aylesbeare, and in the W oodbury Petty Sessional Division ; except Gittisham parish, which is in Honiton Deanery and Petty Sessional Division. It is about seven miles in breadth and extends more than ten miles in length along the sea cost from Exmouth to Salcombe-Regis, but Ottery St Mary, which lies within its limits, is a separate liberty. It is gene­ rally a fertile and picturesque district, and includes the bathing places of Exmouth, Sidmouth and Budleigh-Salterton. It is intersected by the rivers Otter and Sid, and bounded on the ~est by the broad es­ tuary of the Exe.     Dorset & the Jurassic Coast Dorset, on the south coast of Britain is well worth a visit if you’re interested in beautiful landscapes and dramatic coastlines. Over half the county is designated ‘an area of outstanding beauty’ and three quarters of the coastline is classed as a world heritage site. There are no motorways in Dorset, so you will have time to take in the scenery as you meander through rolling hills and picture perfect villages. The coastline has many things to offer. From Chesil Beach, the 18 mile long stretch of pebbles that has protection for its wildlife, to the limestone arches of Durdle Dor, part of the Lulworth Estate. How about letting the kids search for fossils in the limestone cliffs near Lyme Regis or letting them run amok at Maiden Castle, an Iron Age hill fort near Dorchester or Corfe Castle on the Isle of Purbeck that was built by William the Conqueror. If you feel like a little nightlife, you could visit Bournemouth or Poole in the east of the County.
