Presidents’ Joint Statement Dear Members of the DePauw and Wabash Communities,

It is once again time to celebrate a great tradition that has brought our schools togeth- er since 1890: the Monon Bell contest. Over 115 games, DePauw and Wabash have devel- oped one of the nation’s greatest college foot- ball rivalries and, at the same time, earned one another’s respect. For three hours on Saturday, student-ath- letes from the two schools will play hard to win the coveted symbol of this rivalry. But today and throughout the year, we can all cel- ebrate the fact that DePauw and Wabash are two great schools that share this tremendous tradition alongside a tremendous mutual respect and admiration. At Blackstock Stadium, the DePauw com- munity will extend a hearty and welcoming Tiger hand of hospitality to the as well as to Wabash students, alumni, faculty and staff, families and friends. In millions of homes across America, and as DePauw and Wabash alumni join together at more than 60 telecast events across the nation, many people will get their first good look at our two colleges as we celebrate this storied rivalry, now tied after 115 contests. Before the game the Tiger Pep Band and Wabash’s Sphinx Club will meet at mid-field to play the songs of both schools as well as the national anthem. At the game the two of us, as presidents of our institutions, will greet one another and the players in the spirit of sportsmanship and friendship, as DePauw and Wabash students wrap up a week of com- petitive philanthropic efforts. We are sending this message in the hopes that you will join us in celebrating the many things that DePauw and Wabash share and the great tradition that is entrusted to us. Please respect and take care of one another; by doing so, you are building upon the foundations of a rivalry that has engaged and thrilled gener- ations of our students. We look forward to cheering with you Sat- urday.
