World renowned criminologist, Professor David Wilson, delves into Scotland’s Crime Files, exploring the cases which fascinate with a range of respected contributors. Each episode conducts an in-depth investigation into both historic and contemporary crime cases as Professor Wilson interviews professionals who combat crime – high profile lawyers, pathologists, frontline police as well as some of the nation’s most notorious criminals. Themes covered in the series include serial killers, heists, gangs, miscarriage of justice, disposal of the body and crimes of passion, amongst others. In this first episode, Professor Wilson investigates the phenomenon of the Scottish , he says: “Serial killers inhabit our imagination as alien ‘others’. As monsters different to the likes of you and me. But as the old saying goes, the devil hides in plain sight. In my experience, that phrase is never more apt than when describing serial killers.” Crime Files considers the cases of serial killers including Peter Manuel, and debates the true identity of John. Professor Wilson meets acclaimed criminal lawyer Donald Findlay QC who has made a career out of defending those accused of murder; speaks to author and co-founder of the Bloody Scotland fiction festival, Alex Gray; and discusses the mystery surrounding killer with crime reporter Jane Hamilton. Investigative journalist, Fiona Walker steps back in time, revisiting 1950s and a sensational trial of a serial killer that shocked the nation – Peter Manuel. Crime Files is a Tern TV production for BBC Scotland.

Notes  David Wilson is Professor of Criminology at Birmingham City University.  Born in Clackmannanshire, David studied at the University of Glasgow.  At the age of 29 he became the youngest prison Governor in England, working at Grendon, Wormwood Scrubs and at Woodhill in Milton Keynes where he designed and ran the two units for 12 of the most violent prisoners in the country.  Over his career, David has advised on numerous live murder investigations and trains Senior Investigating Officer (SOIs) on murder inquiries.

Flour Power, Ep 8/10 Wednesday 24 July BBC Scotland, 8.00-8.30pm

In this eighth episode Flour Power is visiting Broughty Ferry. Located just outside , a converted open-plan church houses graphic and brand consultancy Avian and web design and development agency Blue2. Combined, these two companies are a cake-making force with employees following a rota to bring in home baking every week. Their ‘cake Thursdays’ are a joy to behold but with the Flour Power trophy at stake, it just went up a notch. Company newbie and Business Development Manager Lennox, Web Developer Fraser and Designer Jamie will try to de-throne brilliant baker and Digital Marketing Analyst Becca. Becca is an experienced baker and it shows as she puts together her chocolate and orange marble cake before decorating it in tribute to a famous Dundee institution. Meanwhile Lennox hopes her chocolate brownie pizza will help her ‘takeaway’ the trophy. Jamie’s huge vegan cake gives our judges food for thought, as does Fraser’s modest, but ultimately delicious, traybake cupcakes. Joining series judge Nichola Reith to decide is Dundee baker Alan Clark who knows a thing or two when it comes to cake.

Beechgrove Thursday 25 July BBC Scotland, 8.00-8.30pm

Life is a bowl of cherries at Beechgrove this week with a focus on fruit. George Anderson reviews progress in the fruit house of the vines, citrus and fig while Carole Baxter properly appreciates the crop of ‘Sweetheart’ cherries. Brian Cunningham reviews his no-mow lawn and counts the extra wildlife thriving in it. Fresh from Gold medal winning at Chelsea Flower Show, Chris Beardshaw is back at Beechgrove to smell and tend the roses. Kirsty Wilson visits a young plant enthusiast in Limekilns. David Durie has been growing tropical plants since he was a boy, now in his 20s he has amassed a collection of the weird and wonderful Carnivorous plants. These pretty ugly plants have become on-trend plants to keep and Kirsty gleans valuable hints and tips from David’s experience. Carole visits Trish and Andy Winton’s modestly magnificent Montrose garden. The garden has mixed borders with a Montrose take on a Mediterranean garden. Trish is an artist and Carole learns how the garden inspires her but also how her art inspires the garden. Carole and Brian return to their glasshouse V polytunnel competition. Carole looks like she’s in clover but Brian still has a few tricks up his sleeve. George will be doing a run of handy hints on garden gear or tools this series and will feature how to use tools to best advantage in each episode building up the ultimate gardening tool kit.

Still Game, Ep5 – Hitched Friday 26 July BBC One, 9.00-9.30pm

Love is in the air in the penultimate episode of Still Game as the gang rally together to create an unforgettable wedding day for one of the pals. There’s lots to organise - the food, the flowers, the venue and the wedding band - but the friends all say ‘I do!’ to making a love match to remember. Jack and Victor have a chance encounter with their old pal Andy Forrester who brags about being a big wig museum curator. Listening to Andy, the pals feel like underachievers but all is not as it seems. Winston’s found happiness with his lady friend Winnie. During a particularly enjoyable day – which involved winding up Stevie the Bookie – the excitement gets too much for him and a surprise wedding proposal slips out. Back in The Clansman, Winston announces he’s getting hitched, opting for a quick wedding just days away. The only trouble is Winston’s promised Winnie the world but doesn’t have the means to make their dream wedding a reality. Unable to tell his fiancé the truth, Winston digs himself deeper so Jack, Victor, Tam, Isa, and Navid band together to give the couple the perfect day. Boabby dusts off his wee black book to find a wedding band to get the party started, while Jack and Victor turn to their old curator pal Andy for the romantic venue.

Also starring Shamshad Akhtar as Meena, Lynne McCallum as Peggy, Kate Donnelly as Frances, with cameo appearances by Midge Ure, Clare Grogan and Amy Macdonald.
