TCDSB ALUMNI AWARD Th e Alumni Award is presented to persons, from diverse areas of careers and endeavours, who were students in a Toronto Catholic District School Board school, who are still active in the Catholic community and who have distinguished themselves in their careers or accomplishments. DR. PETER JOSEPH MOLONEY, O.B.E., PH. D., LL.D., F.R.S.C. (1891-1989): graduate of St. Michael Catholic High School in 1908 (M.S.S.B). Known for daily Mass attendance at St. Basil’s Parish, and Father Henry Carr was a lifelong friend. He published refl ections on the Catholic faith such as “Faith and the Non-Believer” and “Why I am a Catholic” and he wrote to all the Canadian Bishops in support of Humanae Vitae, from his perspective as a Catholic scientist. Two of his 5 children received religious vocations. Dr. Moloney passed away on August 12 1989, in Toronto. He left behind a legacy of scientifi c research and achievements. MICHAEL A. AMOS: graduate of Chaminade College School and successful business man, writer and actor. Michael started his acting career in 2004 when he landed a small montage role in the feature fi lm “Against the Ropes”, a drama movie starring Meg Ryan, Omar Epps, and Kerry Washington. He is also the author of “Both Sides of the Fence: Surviving the Trap” – a book about growing up in the Jane and Finch community. Michael devotes much of his time to advocating for at-risk children and youth. He attributes his time at Chaminade as pivotal in helping him get out of the cycle of poverty. A discerning believer formed in the Catholic faith community, Michael has made many positive choices in his life and his interaction in our TCDSB Catholic faith community has certainly been a contributing factor, which he acknowledges.
