  • Humber River State of the Watershed Report – Nature-Based Recreation
Humber River State of the Watershed Report – Nature-based Recreation 2008 Humber River State of the Watershed Report – Nature-based Recreation EXECUTIVE SUMMARY • The variety of landscapes, features and nature-based recreation destinations in the Humber River watershed provide potential for a wide range of recreational activities including walking, hiking, cross-country skiing, wildlife-viewing, picnicking, camping, bicycling, horseback riding, golfing, fishing, swimming and exploring cultural heritage sites. • Urban development and population growth in Humber watershed municipalities will likely result in increased use of existing greenspace and nature-based recreation facilities and demand for additional greenspace and facilities. • There are approximately 8,800 hectares of public greenspace in the Humber River watershed (10% of the watershed). Most of the greenspace is owned by the TRCA (6,644 hectares or 75%). The quantity of greenspace in the Humber watershed increased by 243 hectares between 2000 and 2005. • Oak Ridges Corridor Park, created through the transfer of 428 hectares of land from private owners and developers to the Province of Ontario in 2004, protects the last remaining natural corridor link between eastern and western parts of the Oak Ridges Moraine in Richmond Hill and represents a major addition to the Humber watershed greenspace system. • The length of inter-regional trails in the Humber River watershed totals 213 km. The total length of inter-regional trails has increased by 28 km since 2000 and an additional 15 km of inter-regional trails are proposed to be built in the watershed. • Numerous municipalities have proposed new local trails in the Humber River watershed, totaling 168 km in length.

  • I'm Special I I'm Special
!^W.'UJtf"-V^j! _j my I'm Special i I'm special. In all the world there's nobody like me. Since the beginning of time, there has never been another person like me. Nobody has my smile. Nobody has my eyes, my nose, my hair, my voice. I'm special. No one can be found who has my handwriting. Nobody anywhere has my tastes - for food or music or art. no one sees things just as I do. In all of time there's been no one who laughs like me, no one who cries like me. And what makes me laugh and cry will never provoke identical laughter and tears from anybody else, ever. No one reacts to any situation just as I would react. I'm special. I'm the only one in all of creation who has my set of abilities. Oh, there will always be somebody who is better at one of the things I'm good at, but no one in the universe can reach the quality of my com bination of talents, ideas, abilities and feelings. Like a room full of musical instruments, some may excel alone, but none can match the symphony of sound when all are played together. I'm a symphony. Through all of eternity no one will ever look, talk, walk, think or do like me. I'm special. I'm rare. And in rarity there is great value. Because of my great rare value, I need not attempt to imitate others. I willl accept - yes, celebrate - my differences.

Acknowledgments The site of Exhibition Place has had a long tradition as a gathering place. Given its location on the water, these lands would have attracted Indigenous populations before recorded history. We acknowledge that the land occupied by Exhibition Place is the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples. We also acknowledge that Toronto is covered by Treaty 13 with the Mississaugas of the Credit, and the Williams Treaties signed with multiple Mississaugas and Chippewa bands. Figure 1. • Casa Loma Heritage Conservation District Study | Report | July, 2018 EVOQ ARCHITECTURE CHARACTER ANALYSIS
CHARACTER ANALYSIS VIEWS AND GATEWAYS General views were noted and analyzed by the consultant team during the initial site visits and further refined after the public consultation meetings. While no specific views or vistas were identified beyond those of Casa Loma, a number of gateways entering and exiting the community were noted. These gateways help define a sense of place by situating the viewer with respect to the immediate surroundings and can create a sense of entrance and transition from one area to another. Important gateways of the Casa Loma HCD study area include: • The intersection of Walmer and Davenport Roads, where Spadina Road ends and the road curves around Casa Loma • The intersection of St. Clair and Wells Hill Avenues, where most resident access their neighbourhood • The intersection of Cottingham Road and Glen Edyth Figure 210: Walmer Road curving around Casa Loma Drive, the only access point to Glen Edyth Drive and Place The City of Toronto’s Official Plan identifies several views from the Public Realm both within and surrounding the HCD Study Area. These views are categorized by Prominent and Heritage Buildings, Structures and Landscapes, as well as Important Natural Features. Identified views within and surrounding the Casa Loma HCD Study Area are noted in Chapter 8: Analysis of Official Plan and Zoning Provisions.
