Junior Girls Basketball Pre-Season Winners

On September 20, the Michael Power/St. Joseph Junior Girls’ Basketball team won the pre-season tournament at Blessed Cardinal Newman. What a great start to the season! Congrats to all involved, including coaches Modi, Gouveia and McHugh. Click here for more photos.

St. Joseph Morrow Park Receives Letter from Prime Minister

On May 8, Grade 12 students at St. Joseph Morrow Park were determined to make a difference in the world. They put together presentations on world issues, and wrote a letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The letter emphasized that there are 700 marine species that may be extinct due to plastic pollution. They recommended several solutions for to enact, and hopes that the Prime Minister would take action. In July, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wrote a letter in response to their concerns. The St. Joseph Morrow Park school community is very proud of the Ms. Mihalek’s Grade 12 Religion class for allowing their voices to be heard by the Canadian government and for encouraging change for the betterment of the world around us.

"Pistol Pete" Flagler

Michael Power/St. Joseph grad and current Toronto Marlies assistant equipment manager “Pistol Pete” Flagler made a visit to the school on September 20, to share his Calder Cup championship with the school community. Congratulations Peter! Click here for more photos.

CELEBRATIONS

Blessing of New St. Josaphat School Location

On September 19, the St. Josaphat school community came together to celebrate the blessing of its new school location. Principal Leda Ostafichuk kicked off the celebration with opening remarks, then Bishop Stephen Chmilar performed a short ceremony to bless the building. Associate Dan Koening, Trustee Ann Andrachuk and Chair of the Board Barbara Poplawski concluded the celebration with closing remarks, stressing the importance of roots, and congratulating the school community on settling into their new home. Blessed Sacrament Celebrates New Playground with Blessing and Ribbon

On September 14, Blessed Sacrament celebrated its new playground with a blessing ceremony in the school yard. Principal Walo kicked off the ceremony with opening remarks then Father Larry, Pastor at Blessed Sacrament Parish, led a special prayer service. In addition, students, staff and parents were joined by Trustee Maria Rizzo, Superintendent Michael Caccamo, and MPP Robin Martin. Once the ribbon cutting was over, students were able to enjoy the new playground just in time for recess. Congratulations to all involved especially Trustee Rizzo, the TCSDB Senior Team, the Facilities Department for all of their tremendous contributions to the playground revitalization project. Our Lady of Peace 65th Anniversary Fun Fair

On September 15, families, alumni, and community members gathered at the 65th Anniversary Fun Fair organized by Our Lady of Peace school. Attendees had such an amazing time at the festival and enjoyed the food trucks, bouncy castles, face painting, games, a visit from Reptilia Zoo, and much more! A police car and a fire engine were on site for the kids to jump in and have their photo taken. Principal Sandra Figliomeni, Vice Principal David Whicher, and Pastor Yaw Acheampong were also at the event and welcomed all to join in the fun. Thanks to all the volunteers for organizing such an amazing celebration!

We Day 2018

On September 20, staff and students came together to celebrate We Day. Before the main event, Director of Education, Rory McGuckin kicked off the Educational Partners’ Breakfast with opening remarks, and announced there were over 5000 TCDSB students in attendance taking part in the inspiring day.

Once the main event started at the Scotiabank Arena, students enjoyed the show filled with renowned speakers, and music performances. Craig and Marc Kielburger spoke passionately about the different campaigns and projects that students have the opportunity to take part in. Co-hosts Nick Robinson and Miss Piggy alongside Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Arkells, Adam Devine, The Muppets, Lilly Singh and more celebrated young change-makers.

We Day brought together thousands of young people to celebrate and inspire another year of incredible change. Click here for more photos.
