In January this year the NN had its annual party to thank all the people who deliver the paper every month, as well as the team that produces the paper, including the team at Leopard Press, who print it. This year we were very pleased to have four former editors at the party, as well as our former Chair Bill Affl eck. Pam Adams, who is one of our oldest distributors, represents the spirit of dedication and community service that is typical of all of our team. She has volunteered for NN for a very long time, and although she has visual impairment now, Pam still delivers the NN every month, Gail Jones - Former Editor with a little help. As a serial footwear buyer – often compared to someone whose surname begins with ‘M’ – Buskins will be sorely missed! Despite Diana’s busy retail life, her commitment to the Nailsworth community in so many ways in support of various local fund-raising initiatives, has been undertaken with typical enthusiasm and selfless commitment. I’m quite sure the local community will join me in thanking Diana and Leonie for many years of Buskins Shoes and in wishing them both a restful, productive and happy retirement.

Local Vets Join Recycling in Nailsworth From February the George Veterinary Clinic will be helping local pet owners to recycle pet food packaging and pouches by providing a drop off point at the clinic in Nailsworth. The waste that can be recycled will be: All wet pet food pouches: All pet treat flexible plastic packaging and pouches: All dry pet food flexible plastic packaging The packaging must be clean and dry but we hope this will encourage pet owners to consider recycling these packs. One of our clients asked if we could get involved as part of a wider scheme nationally. Once collected, the aggregated plastic pet food packaging is sorted, shredded and washed. Food residue is composted, material is densified into plastic granules which are extruded and used in the production of different plastic products such as fence posts and benches. 16 ART GROUPS Hanover Art Group Exhibitions Hanover Art Group, started some eight years ago by Cliff Beale and Marshall Taylor, will hold two exhibitions of work this year. One in March, weekend of 21st-23rd in the Mortimer room, and a themed exhibition of work, “Studies of Nailsworth” at Hobbs Bakery for one week, 3rd-9th May 2020. The group meet at Christchurch every Monday. Some of our original members were from Hanover Housing Association – hence the group name and though never formally advertised we’ve received a steady fl ow of enthusiasts including Olivia Dell who ran a successful textile shop in the town, and the Architect David Austin who produced the town’s mural, “Flowing Water and Weaving Cloth”. Long standing members have included Ivy Corrig who, over the years, has contributed successfully in many shows in the town. This will be our second exhibition in the Mortimer Rooms and the group has also participated in several exhibitions of art at St George’s. Please support us and visit our shows, you are most welcome! Old and New Year Revolutions The boot of the car now contains a second-hand folding bike and cycling helmet: quite unremarkable news you might say, but its arrival has done wonders for the driver’s constitution, not to mention his ‘dodgy’ knees! The re-surfaced cycle path and towpaths of Frampton to Slimbridge have fairly hummed with activity over the last few months, though inclement weather has, at times, hampered good intentions. Unable to face the one in four incline on which we live and a little apprehensive on busy roads, this very handy little machine has been instrumental in both exercising stiff joints and getting us out and about in the unseasonably mild weather we’re enjoying. With the exception of a phantom puncture and one incidence of jammed brakes, promptly rectified with no charge, by Dan at Edemo Bikes, the bike has functioned admirably and so far, provided much needed relief from age-related stiff joints. With the future acquisition of a second folding bike, so that the writer can join in the fun, we look forward to many more happy hours of healthy exercise in our beautiful countryside.
