Giorgio Moroder's Déjà Vu (Rca) Debuts at #1 On GIORGIO MORODER’S DÉJÀ VU (RCA) DEBUTS AT #1 ON THE BILLBOARD TOP DANCE/ELECTRONIC ALBUMS CHART MORODER’S FIRST STUDIO ALBUM IN 30 YEARS! CHECK OUT WHAT THE CRITICS ARE SAYING ABOUT DÉJÀ VU: “’Déjà Vu’ is a dance-pop album from start to finish — a gleaming, effervescent, crafty blend of the disco that gave Mr. Moroder his first hits and the electronic dance music that has been extrapolating his ideas for decades.” – The New York TImes “Sparkling” – Time Magazine “… few have exerted more influence over today's music than the Italian producer/songwriter who put Munich on the '70s musical map, Giorgio Moroder.”—NPR Music “The high priest of disco returns.”—Rolling Stone “Giorgio Moroder, disco god brings back the sound…booming beats…rich melodies…up-to- date technology, jittery rhythm, and songwriting craft…Moroder has created a zesty new club beats for stars as current as Sia, Charli XCX and Britney Spears.” – New York Daily News “At 75, dance pioneer Moroder is still ahead of the curve…Hearing Sia’s funky ‘Déjà vu’ or Charli XCX’s glitzy thumper ‘Diamonds,’ even wallflowers will want to uproot themselves and head to the dance floor.” – People Magazine “his hot comeback album.” – Entertainment Weekly “It’s upbeat and fun, and that (now) 75-year-old Moroder can craft a pop album this commercial says a lot about both the man and his chosen business.” – Yahoo Music “…Most fans will be drawn to the vintage feel that runs through cuts like the title track, which shimmers with Chic guitars and Sia’s seductive vocals. Four-to-the-floor still lives, three decades on.” – New York Post “The most influential producer electronic music has ever known… Déjà vu is a collection which veers from EDM-leaning bangers, like the Charli XCX-featuring ‘Diamonds,’ and LP closer ‘74 Is the New 24,’ which marries a more modern electro aesthetic with Italo disco.”—Vice/Noisey “Diamonds,” his collaboration with Charli XCX, bounces between snotty pop hooks and a wobbly, distorted low end that might have caused serious damage to Studio 54’s subwoofers… The Minogue feature “Right Here, Right Now” is an effortlessly sparkly slab of neo-disco, while “Wildstar,” with 25-year-old British singer Foxes, takes a number of Moroder signatures and marries them to a euphoric electro-orchestral sweep.”-- Variety “The legendary disco producer is continuing his unexpected career revival with a new full-length brimming with superstar collaborations….He reminds us why he’s one of dance music’s foremost innovators.”-- Billboard “…singles such as the sparkling Minogue number ‘Right Here, Right Now’ show that Moroder hasn’t lost his touch when it comes to creating a certain kind of ethereal pop magic…”—V Magazine “Giorgio Moroder is back baby!” -- Wired “The iconic producer introduced electronic music to pop radio and soundtracked your favorite ’80s movies. At age 75, he’s back and finally feeling the love.”-- Complex “...While a lot of people think EDM today is sort of rubbish, some know exactly how to do it properly. Exhibit A: Giorgio Moroder… The record breathes with all the spirit disco-pop once summoned.” – Consequence of Sound “After a 30-year hiatus — and backed by an army of today’s biggest pop stars — the man who all but invented EDM is preparing the ultimate comeback.” (Title track)’Déjà Vu’ splits the difference between the soaring, rafter-shaking club-pop we’ve come to expect from the Aussie singer and Moroder’s 1970s trademark… an irresistible four-to-the-floor beat, melodramatic strings, saucy handclaps. It’s an exuberant disco banger that would make Donna Summer proud, and if there’s justice in this world, it will be the song of the summer.” -- OUT “Déjà Vu channels sounds from days past, which is ironically now the days of the future… it’s actually a sign of what’s to come from the continuously evolving electronic music and the producer himself… a who’s who of music at this very moment.” Rating: 4/5 – Idolator “Déjà Vu is a strong effort, and one that evokes Moroder’s formidable past accomplishments while taking risks and building on pop’s current dance-heavy sound — a sound he was instrumental in developing.” -- PopCrush “a relentlessly fun record.”—New York Magazine/Vulture “the 75-year-old inventor of disco (is) dazzling fans old and new with Déjà Vu, his first new album in 30 years… “ – The Advocate “Moroder is one of the most influential disco and electronica musicians of all time …You might expect this to be a throwback affair, one that highlights the lineage of some of today’s newest stars. Instead… the album’s on-trend…Pop’s currently obsessed with dance music that has Moroder’s sonic DNA, both in the form of the sleek drama of EDM and the warm, springy disco repopularized by Pharrell.” – The Atlantic “… ‘Déjà vu’ finds Moroder adding to his already legendary legacy.” – NY Newsday BUY/STREAM DÉJÀ VU Itunes: http://smarturl.it/iDejaVu Spotify: http://smarturl.it/sDejaVu Amazon: http://smarturl.it/aDejaVu Google Play: http://smarturl.it/gDejaVu Cover art and press photos available at www.rcarecordspress.com www.facebook.com/giorgiomoroderofficial www.twitter.com/giorgiomoroder www.instagram.com/giorgiomoroder Media contact: Sarah Weinstein Dennison/RCA Records publicity [email protected] 212-833-5593 .

University of Central Florida, 2011 A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts in the Department of English in the College of Arts and Humanities at the University of Central Florida Orlando, Florida Spring Term 2015 ABSTRACT This thesis examines contemporary folk music from no earlier than 2006, specifically music of the bands The Decemberists, Fleet Foxes, and Bon Iver. Providing a close reading of select songs, I prove that modern music is seeing a revival in the Romantic Era and Transcendentalist ideals and philosophy. The works and philosophy of Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772-1834), William Wordsworth (1770-1850), John Keats (1795-1821), as well as Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862), Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882), among others and their critics are all considered for points of comparison to the modern lyrics.

¡VIVA LA PUGA, VIVA EL PINCHO Y CONGA NO VA CARAJO! Christopher Santiago Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY 2017 © 2017 Christopher Santiago All rights reserved ABSTRACT ¡Conga No Va Carajo! Christopher Santiago My dissertation concerns peasant resistance to transnational gold mines in Cajamarca, Peru. This resistance is founded on people's experiences as expressed in songs, stories, jokes, dreams and direct political actions in the face of tremendous repression. Peasant experience itself is a powerful spiritual weapon in the lucha. Through immersion in the struggle, I wish to give a glimpse of the peasants’ lives as they confront environmental catastrophe. My work seeks to re- present this resistance movement from the inside, as much as is possible. It is heart wrenching to hear a woman sing a song about how she lost her son to the police mercenaries. These moments of communion reveal the spirit of the struggle and forge the bonds which energize the resistance movement. Threatened by the death of the Earth, there is now a resurgence in consciousness of the Pacha Mama ("Earth Mother" in Quechua) which I believe to be the latest manifestation of Andean messianism, the idea that the Inca and Andean gods will return to cast out the Spanish and redeem history. • The Otaku Lifestyle: Examining Soundtracks in the Anime Canon
THE OTAKU LIFESTYLE: EXAMINING SOUNDTRACKS IN THE ANIME CANON A THESIS IN Musicology Presented to the Faculty of the University of Missouri-Kansas City in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree MASTER OF MUSIC by MICHELLE JURKIEWICZ B.M., University of Central Missouri, 2014 Kansas City, Missouri 2019 © 2019 MICHELLE JURKIEWICZ ALL RIGHTS RESERVED THE OTAKU LIFESTYLE: EXAMINING SOUNDTRACKS IN THE ANIME CANON Michelle Jurkiewicz, Candidate for the Master of Music Degree University of Missouri-Kansas City, 2019 ABSTRACT Japanese animation, or anime, has been popular around the globe for the last sixty years. Anime has its own fan culture in the United States known as otaku, or the obsessive lifestyle surrounding manga and anime, which has resulted in American production companies creating their own “anime.” Japanese filmmakers do not regard anime simply as a cartoon, but instead realize it as genre of film, such as action or comedy. However, Japanese anime is not only dynamic and influential because of its storylines, characters, and themes, but also for its purposeful choices in music. Since the first anime Astro Boy and through films such as Akira, Japanese animation companies combine their history from the past century with modern or “westernized” music. Unlike cartoon films produced by Disney or Pixar, Japanese anime do not use music to mimic the actions on-screen; instead, music heightens and deepens the plot and emotions. This concept is practiced in live-action feature films, and although anime consists of hand-drawn and computer-generated cartoons, Japanese directors and animators create a “film” experience with their dramatic choice of music.

PERFORMERS SUMMER She could sing anything, anywhere, with anyone, at any time. ___________________________________________ By Harry Weinger ___________________________________________ onna Summer is the Queen of Disco. Within a genre that sprouted anonymous voices, Summer, who died on M ay 17, 2012, was prolific, versatile, and deter D mined. Pushing boundaries, she symbolized a time that her work transcended. Her influence, from Madonna to Beyonce, from the invention of the twelve-inch to the whole o f modern EDM , is immeasurable. She was no producer’s puppet: Her association with the production team of Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte was one of collaboration, as she cowrote eight of her fourteen Top Ten pop chart singles. A ninth, “Dim All the Lights,” she wrote on her own. And, of course, Bruce Springsteen wrote a song for her. “Donna never wanted to repeat herself,” said her husband, Bruce Sudano, also a writer, producer, and artist, who met Summer while a member o f the group Brooklyn Dreams. “She always looked for ways to advance her art.” Her stage shows are the stuff of legend — marked by the excess o f the times, with elabo rate sets and costumes, but ultimately soul-satisfying due to Summer’s remarkable perfor mances. Tom Carson, reviewing her concert album Live and More in Rolling Stone in late 1978, wrote that she possessed “a fine, dramatic voice, [with] immense charm and unusually tasteful technical control... Whenever she gets away from the strictures of disco, she can be quite extraordinary.” Those watching up close were equally impressed. “Fuc\!” exclaimed Elton John, an unabashed fan, as he was about to headline a benefit concert where she was performing.

  • The Red Fox in Iowa
THE RED FOX IN IOWA by Ronald D. Andrews Furbearer Resource Specialist Iowa Conservation Commission Edward J Bierly, who painted the red fox shown above, is a wildlife artist of long-standing whose work has been published both nationally and internationally. He confesses that among American animals the red fox is his favorite subject, and he has often watched them in the woods around his studio in Lorton, Virginia. © 1976 Edward J Bierly Foreward The Wildlife Section of the Iowa Conservation Commission has the responsibility to monitor wildlife population trends, manage state-owned lands for wildlife production and diversity and conduct research projects to provide a scientific basis for management of Iowa’s wildlife. This bulletin is the culmination of a 10-year study of red foxes in the Midwest. It is a popularized version of a scientific publication published by the Wildlife Society entitled, MORPHOLOGY, REPRO• DUCTION, DISPERSAL AND MORTALITY OF MIDWESTERN RED FOX POPULATIONS, (Wildlife Monograph No. 49), written by Gerald L Storm, Ronald D Andrews, Robert L Phillips, Richard A Bishop, Donald B Siniff, and John R Tester. The monograph received national recognition in 1978 when the National Wildlife Society designated it as the outstanding publication of the year. This popularized publication is one which all citizens of Iowa can read and gain a greater understanding of the red fox and its role in Iowa’s wildlife community. The entire fox study, including the monograph and this publication, was financed through the sale of hunting, fishing and trapping licenses and a federal excise tax on hunting and fishing equipment (Pittman-Robertson Project W-115-R-1).
