VicHealth signs major partnership with Deakin Boomers

One of Australia’s most iconic women’s sports teams, the Deakin Melbourne Boomers, has won the support of VicHealth as a major partner, with a focus on the journey towards gender equality in sport.

Melbourne Boomers Commercial Operations Manager, , said the partnership came at an ideal time.

“The media is starting to highlight gender and diversity in sport to a far greater that during my playing career, and we are starting to see the benefits of the push for gender equity in sport,” she said.

"We are very proud to partner with VicHealth, who are committed to seeing gender equality in sport become a reality in Victoria, and to receive their recognition of the Boomers’ work promoting women on and off the court.

“Our players are not only extremely talented and hard-working athletes, but also excellent role models – and they deserve equal treatment.”

VicHealth CEO Jerril Rechter said VicHealth was proud to partner with the Boomers to help raise the profile of women’s sport.

“At VicHealth we are passionate about providing more opportunities for women and girls to participate in sport, seeing equal coverage of women’s sport in media, achieving equal pay and increasing the number of women in key decision making and leadership roles,” Ms Rechter said.

“We’re excited to work with the Boomers, who have already done so much for women in sport, to increase gender equality in sport and give female athletes the recognition they deserve.”

Under the agreement, VicHealth will be the presenting partner of the club’s February 5th match against , a Sunday afternoon game at the Victorian State Centre billed as the Boomers’ 33rd birthday.
