Women Can... THURSDAY 17 NOVEMBER Women telling their stories in and through sport Who are we? The Deakin Women in Sport and Exercise Hub (Deakin WISE HUB) is a group of like-minded individuals with a common goal of creating an internationally recognised HUB that fosters women and girls to increase confidence in their capacity to participate and engage in sport and exercise at all levels and across their lifespan. Who should attend? Students with a genuine interest in what sport can offer, leveraging sport to create opportunities and to learn what courses Deakin University offers in regards to Sport. Guest Speaker Lauren Jackson Lauren Jackson is the most famous basketball player in Australia and was recognised as one of the world’s best basketball players by the time she was 21. Lauren represented Australia at four Olympic Games, three senior and two junior world championships, and has played in every major basketball league across the world. Post retirement Lauren is forging a role in basketball administration and has recently joined the ownership group of the Deakin Melbourne Boomers, being named the team’s commercial operations executive. Lauren also served as a commentator for Channel Seven’s broadcast of the Olympic tournament.
