“Never Can Say Goodbye” In Tribute to

RELEASE DATE: 6/22/10

NEW YORK, NY - June 25th, the day that rocked the music world with the tragic death of the King Of Pop, will mark a day of celebration of the life of Michael Jackson with the release of “Never Can Say Goodbye”, a fitting title of this thoughtful collection of past to present Jackson hits from contemporary jazz pioneer, Pianist/Arranger Bob Baldwin and speaks of the sentiment felt by millions of fans worldwide. A special radio tribute and promotion will be made available for broadcast, June 25th across the terrestrial, satellite, internet jazz radio spectrum, including his own "NewUrbanJazz Lounge" program.

Having received the blessing of the Jackson estate, and as a followup to previous Jackson hits on previous discs, “Goodbye” is the first jazz record to pay homage to MJ and boasts a sterling handpicked collection of Jackson classics served up Baldwin style. This stirring and feel good tribute to all the man was and the influence he had across the musical spectrum, features original Baldwin reads on the early Jackson 5 hits, the organic “I’ll Be There”, Jackson/McCartney hit “This Girl Is Mine” with a lovely Steve Oliver guitar/scat solo (the first on record) as well as the laid back and soul drenched Temperton classic, “Lady In My Life” (from the "" vaults) to the funky side with unique touches on “” and the Gamble and Huff classic “Let Me Show You The Way Go”, as well as the highly infectious title track, featuring a cameo appearance from new guitarist Chuck Loeb. "She's Out of My Life" gets the Nashville treatment, with the soulful guitar riffs ushered in by Special Efx staple . The personal Baldwin tribute "Prodigious" is soulful and sensitive, much like his approach to the entire project, while "Don't Say Goodbye" is haunting and reflective.

Baldwin was not a late-comer to the fanfare of Michael Jackson. "In 2000, it was time to give MJ his kudos", says the NY native. "I grew up listening to 'Never Can Say Goodbye' as a kid and watching the J5 on the Ed Sullivan Show, so he was in the fabric of my musical pop life, in between listening to and Miles. Quincy really elevated his sense of harmony and you heard it in his later work". Baldwin also released "I Wanna Be Where You Are" in 2004 after recorded the in Ipanema with some of his Brazilian compadres, so in many ways, the seed was already planted. A week orsofollowinghis death, my associate Brenda Hazel suggested I just finish the MJ thought and go full circle. We had to get the business straight, however, so getting the Jackson estate blessing was a real honor". Collaborating with Trippin' N Rhythm will bring this project full circle, which is also an honor.

Baldwin is no stranger to tributes and kudo efforts as his 2nd Haiti effort, the "2010 Jazz For Haiti" benefit concert has led to a worldwide collaboration with the American Red Cross to further assist that tragedy.

“Goodbye”, should do well to invigorate Baldwin’s massive legion of fans across the world as he continues to look forward, but not without keeping an eye on and honoring those who influenced his past. It's the "Feelgood" of 2010 indeed.

New York native Bob Baldwin was blessed to be taught to play the piano by his father Robert Baldwin Sr. With the help of his elder name sake, he discovered his ability of perfect pitch at the age of four. The elder Baldwin was a jazz pianist in his own right, who worked with Art Davis, Keter Betts, Max Roach and others. Bob Baldwin studied classical and jazz repertoire, but his intriguing harmonies were no doubt honed due to his wide range of inspiration which included Oscar Peterson, , and . While studying accounting, business and broadcasting in college, he never strayed far from his first love.

Baldwin never let that business acumen go to waste as he was one of the first artists on record to sell CD’s online in 1995. With his natural musical ability, however, to weave life's experiences into music while creating inventive harmonies, he doesn't really need to fill his releases with high-powered guest appearances, however, Baldwin has used the likes of , Dean James, Jeff Kashiwa, Dave Mann, Chieli Minucci, , Kim Waters, Will Downing, Marion Meadows, the late Grover Washington, Jr., Noel Pointer, Tito Puente alumnus Ray Vega and Tony Cintron, and Brazilian Percussionist Cafe' on previous recordings over the years.

Roberta Flack selected Baldwin as the 1989 Sony Innovators Award winner for his first album, The Dream Featuring Bob Baldwin (1998) on Malaco Jazz Records. “I was amazed by Ms. Flack because I had heard her on the radio for years, but to actually meet her in my formidable years was a real blessing and gave me great influence. She gave me my props and because of that, the industry listened”.

This led to major label contract on the now defunct Atlantic Jazz label, where he birthed his second and third .

As a result of his success, he performed nationwide that same year, including memorable performances at The World Trade Center in , The Cable Show in , and in Europe with vocalist Will Downing. He also brought together the music chemistry of Downing and MarionMeadows.

After Atlantic Jazz fell defunct in 1994, he was without a record deal and began pursuing records independently. In 1994, he recorded State of Mind but was never able to release it. In 1996, he jumped into the internet and sold over 8,000 copies of his independent disc, City Sketches, I/Welcome To the Games, a disc he dedicates to the Olympics, then being held in , Ga., where he moved one year earlier.

Cool Breeze (1997) was next on his musical journey. That showcased his ability to take hits and recreate them with ease, evidenced in “People Make the World Go Round” and his big seller, “Summer Breeze”. Cool Breeze topped the that year, entering into Top20 status.

Although he discovered newfound success in the ‘80’s and‘90’s,he independently produced his CD Bobbaldwin.com in 2000, which was distributed worldwide on Virgin/EMI, and remains his best sold CD to date. It peaked at #17 on the Billboard Contemporary Chart. This record features the awesome talents of Gerald Albright, Marion Meadows, Armsted Christian, Dean James, Eric Essix and Tom Browne, to name a few. Baldwin's touch on "Funkin' For Jamaica" is world class as he dedicates that tune to the late Grover Washington, Jr., who was scheduled to perform on it before his untimely death.

Impacted tremendously from the World Trade Center bombings, Baldwin released two discs in 2002, his solo release Standing Tall and Bob Baldwin Presents The American Spirit, which debuted as the #1 most added on the smoothjazz.com chart and #2 most added on .

That same year, Baldwin headed to South America to work with the likes of guitarist Torcuarto Mariano, saxophonist Leo Gandelman, percussionist Café Da-Silva, and long time Pat Metheny percussionist Armando Marcal as well as Ivan Conte and Alex Malheiros of the legendary Brazilian Fund group Azimuth. The end result is the CD, “ Chill” (2004) recorded in , which features other very talented Brazilian musicians. Using his newfound compadres, Baldwin’s 9th CD returns to the 70s- tinged Neo-jazz roots and creates an emotive 55 minutes of alluring originals. He continues his core career goals to innovate and bring new talent to the forefront.

His 10th CD, All In A Days Work (2005) is 13 tracks deep. This compilation of music contains three “interludes,” and several tracks with vocal stylings, which add up to over an hour of a vibrant, yet refreshingly gratifying collection of jazzy, urban nuances. Baldwin’s understanding of his craft puts him at the top of his game as a player.

To his credit, Baldwin also contributed to the success of other established artists as he composed and produced material for sax men Grover Washington, Jr. (Next Exit)andMarion Meadows (Keep It

July, 1992 Baldwin’s Reflections of Love CD, was #7 on the Billboard charts while Washington and Meadows were at #2 and #5, respectively the same week.

Since 2000, Baldwin has been developing the New Urban Jazz , which is at it’s very early stages. NUJ fuses Urban Music with Contemporary Jazz in a way that only Baldwin can mix it up. It is the future of Contemporary Jazz. He initial impressions have begun in Jacksonville, Fl. in 2004 before moving over to KJAZ in Bermuda, where he helped to shape the sound of that station. He’s made the same impact and inroads at WCLK in Atlanta.

The Sony Innovator has now begun his NUJ format at WJZZ in Atlanta, which is a Radio-one Station. It will be there will NUJ will spread throughout the country and will induce a new sound in Contemporary Jazz. In 2007, he also released “Memoirs From The Hudson”, a 70+ minute live set at the beautiful Croton Point Park in New York, which featured Marion Meadows on Sax. In 2008, look for NewUrbanJazz.com in the stores, featuring Meadows, as well as , Frank McComb, Phil Perry, , Joey Sommerville, Toni Redd, and others.

2010 ushered in NewUrbanJazz.com, and nearly one month later, the Smooth Jazz cards began to fall as over 24 stations flipped from the Smooth Jazz format to other types like Rock, Top 40 and . In February, CD101.9 started the beginning of the collapse. Currently, over a 1500 stretch, there is no commercial smooth jazz stations between Springfield, Ma. and Orlando, Fl., leaving millions of smooth jazz listeners in the dark about their favorite format. Baldwin’s NewUrbanJazzŒ has changed that thought by adding a 2-hour show in 8 cities in the Southeast that lack the format. By year’s end, there will be expanded network…..stay tuned.

“For me, it’s always about expansion and growth on all accounts”, says Baldwin. Earlier in 2010, the country of Haiti suffered a terrible earthquake that left millions homeless and NewUrbanJazz was able to do a jazz benefit collaborating with the Red Cross. In 2011, a Red Cross Jazz Fest is currently in dialogue at a location soon to be announced.

If he has it his way, Bob Baldwin will have his hands full with making, performing and sharing great music for years to come.
