In this issue we present the work of Alfonso Fratteggiani Bianchi. In origine era il colore Una conversazione con Alfonso Fratteggiani Bianchi Anthony Molino Alfonso Fratteggiani Bianchi nasce a Perugia nel 1952. Da giovane soggiorna per lunghi periodi a Roma, dove frequenta diverse scuole e assorbe le meraviglie della capitale; e in seguito a Firenze, dove si misura con la grandiosità del Rinascimento. Cresce nel segno della musica e dell’arte, interessandosi alle correnti che attraversano la seconda metà del secolo. Durante una lunga per- manenza di sei anni a Colonia, in Germania, si apre alla musica contemporanea. É il contatto con la realtà tedesca che lo spinge ad appassionarsi ai suoni non convenzionali, e in modo particolare al violoncello. É di questo periodo, in Germania, la conoscenza for- tunata e prolifica con Ulrike Brand - allora giovane musicista, oggi affermata concertista - che diverrà presto sua moglie. Poi l’incontro con il grande violoncellista Siegfried Palm –suo unico Maestro, come ribadisce ancora oggi in questa intervista - che teneva allora seminari di perfezionamento in tutta Europa e lo porta a diretto contatto con il centro sismologico della musica contemporanea. Al rientro in Italia, l’esperienza tedesca spinge il giovane Fratteggiani a far nascere una nuova realtà culturale nella cam- pagna umbra fuori Perugia. Qui, per oltre dieci anni – dal 1987 al 1997 – prese vita una vicenda per ogni verso straordinaria: da tutta Europa artisti, compositori, musicisti, curiosi di ogni genere d’arte si danno appuntamento per gli eventi organizzati sotto il nome di “Quaderni Perugini di Musica Contemporanea”. I Quaderni sono il veicolo divulgativo per la diffusione del pensiero che nasce in quel contesto. E sono ancora oggi, a distanza di anni, un prezioso strumento di conoscenza, non solo per gli ambiti musicali e artistici ma per l’evoluzione del pensiero in genere. Sulla scia poi dei Quad- erni Perugini, Fratteggiani dà vita a Pieve Càina - un piccolo borgo Anthony Molino 9 medievale sottratto per secoli alla storia e riconsegnato intonso ai giorni nostri – all’Istituto di Musicologia e Musica Contempora- nea, che nasce con l’intento di ospitare per periodi di permanenza creativa e produttiva artisti, musicisti e pensatori in un contesto prolifico e fecondo. Per Fratteggiani questi sono anni di intenso lavoro critico, organizzativo e di relazione. Riesce a tessere una estesa rete di con- tatti che tocca ogni angolo dell’Europa che conta, fino ad arrivare in Giappone. Grazie all’attività dei Quaderni Perugini, il mondo culturale italiano arriva a conoscere l’opera di Giacinto Scelsi, di Morton Feldman e soprattutto di Bernd Alois Zimmermann e John Cage, il quale Cage – in segno di gratitudine e amicizia – finisce per dedicare all’artista quella che viene considerata l’ultima sua composizione, intitolata One12 (1992).1 E mentre l’attività dei Quad- erni si estende anche alla Germania, alla Francia (IRCAMM) e alla Svizzera, nel loro segno vengono organizzate e allestite alcune importanti mostre di arte contemporanea.     Romance Linguistics Editorial Statement Routledge publish the Romance Linguistics series under the editorship of MartinS Harris (University of Essex) and Nigel Vincent (University of Manchester). Romance Philogy and General Linguistics have followed sometimes converging sometimes diverging paths over the last century and a half. With the present series we wish to recognise and promote the mutual interaction of the two disciplines. The focus is deliberately wide, seeking to encompass not only work in the phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, and lexis of the Romance languages, but also studies in the history of Romance linguistics and linguistic thought in the Romance cultural area. Some of the volumes will be devoted to particular aspects of individual languages, some will be comparative in nature; some will adopt a synchronic and some a diachronic slant; some will concentrate on linguistic structures, and some will investigate the sociocultural dimensions of language and language use in the Romance-speaking territories. In the course of my study I found that women of India, when given an opportunity, did not lag behind in any field, whether political, administrative or educational. The book covers a period of ninety years. It begins with 1857 when the first attempt for freedom was made, and ends with 1947 when India attained independence. While selecting this topic I could not foresee the difficulties which subsequently had to be encountered in the way of collecting material.
