The city is a major tourist destination and an important economic hub in central Europe. It is home to many national institutions and government agencies as well as national and international companies. The Warsaw metropolitan area covers 10 counties and has a population of more than 2.6 million (2017 census). Key players: xxx develops and operates the integrated public transport system. It is responsible for route planning, scheduling, ticket sales and ticket inspection. It is a member of the European Metropolitan Transport Authorities (EMTA). There are five city bus operators— xxx, ITS Michalczewski, PKS Grodzisk Mazowiecki, Mobilis, and KM Łomianki. These operate under contract from xxx. Current bus rolling stock and infrastructure: A fleet of xxx buses is deployed in the Warsaw metropolitan area. It serves xxx stops. Table 2.23.4.1 lists the various bus services available. The energy collected by the cells supports on-board power systems, such as additional electronic motors, ticket machines and lighting, and accounts for 1 kW of power for the buses or a reduction in fuel consumption by approximately 5 per cent. www.globalmasstransit.net Box 1: European Bus of the Future Phase 2 (EBSF_2) The EBSF_2 project is being funded under the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. It capitalises on the results of the previous EBSF project (EBSF-1). It is being implemented in the period May 2015-April 2018. As in the case of the EBSF project, EBSF_2 aims to test and deploy new bus technologies and infrastructure in the following areas: energy strategy and auxiliaries; green driver assistance; information technology (IT) standard introduction in existing fleets; vehicle design (capacity, accessibility and modularity); intelligent garage and predictive maintenance; and interface between bus and urban infrastructure. The technological innovations under EBSF_2 are being tested in 12 European cities: Barcelona, Dresden, Gothenburg, Helsinki, London, Lyon, Paris (including Brunoy and Nanterre), Madrid, Ravenna, San Sebastian and Stuttgart. The partner organisations are Volvo Bus Corporation, Västtrafik, International Association of Public Transport (UITP), ACTIA Nordic, Linköping, Asstra - Associazione Trasporti, Commissariat a l energie atomique et aux energies alternatives (CEA), CEIT - Centre of Studies and Technical Research, Consortio Transportes Madrid, Hogia, Keolis Sverige AB, Régie autonome des transports parisiens (RATP), Sapienza University of Rome, and the Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT). EBSF-1 was implemented from 2008 to 2013 at a cost of EUR26 million to develop a new- generation urban bus system for European cities. Source: EBSF_2 http://ebsf2.eu/about-ebsf2 Ridership: Ridership is estimated to be over xxx million passengers annually. Fare media and technology: Magnetic-stripe paper tickets and contactless smartcards (Warsaw City Card) are used for fare collection. These need to be validated immediately upon boarding the bus prior to starting a journey. The fare system is integrated with that of other public transport modes. The tickets and smartcards are available for purchase (with cash or bank cards) from ticket vending machines (TVMs) at stations, post offices, private shops and on board buses. Global Mass Transit Research Future plans: xxx plans to introduce xxx new buses by 2027. Of these, xxx buses will be 18 metres long and xxx buses will be 10 metres and 12 metres long. These buses will be mostly hybrid, gas and electric buses. New buses MZA will receive 80 buses from Mercedes Benz by end-2017. The buses will feature low floors and be equipped with air conditioning, electronic passenger information system, ticket machines, video surveillance and on-roof solar photovoltaic panels. Electric buses xxx is part of the ZeUS project, which funds the deployment of electric buses in Europe. xxx has plans to deploy 160 electric buses by 2020. Source: MZA The new xxx buses to be supplied by xxx in early 2018 will be 12 metres long and will have low- floors. The buses will be equipped with air conditioning, monitoring system, ticket machines and facilities for disabled passengers. They will be powered by 208 kWh Solaris High Energy batteries, which can be charged using a depot plug-in charger at 40-120 kW or by a roof- mounted pantograph. Bus depot MZA plans to build a new depot at ul. Redutowej. Other key initiatives xxx plans to introduce solar photovoltaic panels on bus roofs. A tender for the construction of 10 street loading points is planned to be launched by the end of 2017. www.globalmasstransit.net MZA represents Warsaw in the ELIPTIC project, which focuses on electrification of public transport with financial support from the European Commission. MZA is exploring the potential of using energy from the city’s tram infrastructure to charge electric buses. Recent developments: In July 2017, xxx awarded the xxx contract to xxx supply 10 electric buses. Also in July 2017, xxx invited bids to construct bus stops in the lanes of Łabiszyoska and Łojewska streets in Targówek District in Warsaw. In June 2017, xxx signed a contract with xxxfor a 72-month lease of xxx articulated buses (PLN88.5-million contract) and xxx, 12-metre-long buses (PLN50-million contract). Also in June 2017, xxx and xxx signed a contract for operations of bus services till 2027. Abstract: Trolleybus transport played a changing role in Poland. Historically, these were both periods of dynamic development and rapid regression. The article analyzes the period from 2004 to 2018. An attempt was made to systematize and organize information on the development of trolleybus transport in this period. The available scientific literature as well as the economic, organizational and technological conditions for the functioning of trolleybus transport were analyzed. The analyzed period was undoubtedly a time of dynamic development of all three existing trolleybus systems in Poland. The structural funds of the European Union played a significant role in this, allowing to revitalize neglected and underinvested systems. At the same time, climate change has influenced global and local conditions in terms of the approach to transport in cities.

  • Solaris Biggest Manufacturer on Electric Bus Market in Europe Bolechowo, 15.08.2019
ul. Obornicka 46 , Bolechowo-Osiedle 62-005 Owińska tel: +48 61 66 72 333 fax: +48 61 66 72 310 [email protected], www.solarisbus.com/ PRESS RELEASE Solaris biggest manufacturer on electric bus market in Europe Bolechowo, 15.08.2019 Thanks to three large orders placed by customers from Berlin, Warsaw and Milan, Solaris has claimed the lead spot in Europe in terms of contracts for electric buses in 2019. The electric revolution in the bus segment coincides with the company’s long-term strategy which assumes investments in particular in the development of alternative drives. In the first months of 2019, Solaris secured three large orders for the supply of electric buses to Berlin (BVG), Milan (ATM) and Warsaw (MZA). A total of up to 470 vehicles will roll off the assembly line in Bolechowo to these three metropolises alone. In addition, the producer has contracted 90 more electric buses that are to make its way to other European cities. The Polish manufacturer accounts for a total of 25% electric buses for which European carriers have called tenders in 2019. The firm has thus taken the lead in Europe in terms of contracts landed for electric buses. The European fleet currently comprises approximately 3500 electric buses, while barely five years ago their total number equaled merely 240. This marks a nearly 15-fold increase! The European Union policy is certainly conducive to raising the need for zero-emission vehicles. At the end of 2018, the European Parliament set itself the goal to ensure that in 2025, 50% of all new city buses are electric, whereas in 2030 that share is supposed to climb to 75%.
