Roser Vilatersana i la Dra. Mercè Galbany. Elles m’han guiat en aquest llarg camí, m’han animat en els moments més durs i m’han sabut escoltar i recolzar a l’hora de prendre decisions difícils. La veritat és que sense els seus esclats de riure aquesta tesis hauria estat molt menys divertida. En tot moment: al laboratori, davant de l’ordinador però sobretot durant les campanyes per les Canàries, Madeira i Catalunya han estat unes directores entusiastes i encoratjadores. La experiencia en Madrid no hubiera estado tan buena sin los compañeros de “la plaza de toros” del RJB. Que risas más buenas compartimos entre piratas en la calle Santiago ;) I am very grateful to Dr. Andrew Hipp, who host me in the Morton Arboretum of Lisle, Illinois. There, I learned how to deal with AFLP and how to get through bad results. I really enjoyed the journal club sessions there. Also living inside the Arboretum was a great experience, having chickmunks and deers as neighbours. But the nicest experience was to share lab days with Marcial and Kyong-Sook, my experience in Chicago would have been very different without you! Thank you guys for sharing such great moments; like eating kimchi, visiting Oak Park with an emergency blanket or enjoying sports in the Arboretum. Also, I was very happy to meet Bethany, Alka and Carrie. Molt efusivament, vull donar les gràcies als companys de l’Institut Botànic de Barcelona, que sempre han estat disposats a resoldre dubtes, discutir resultats o compartir estones de xerrameca. Sara (la més bona de les tècniques de lab i encara millor amiga!), Javi (company des del inicis del màster fins al final), Andreas (el tirolés més català), Sergi (i el seu porquet), Almu, María, Dani, Isma, Kostya, Jordi, Núria (la millor compi de pis), Encarni, Eli, Sònia, Jaume, Teresa, Marisa, Juanjo, Juancho, Piotr, Cristina...I sobretot agrair els bons esmorzars amb el grupet de les 11h: Míriam, Tamara, Neus Nualart, Neus Ibañez, Noe, Diana, que bé m’ho he passat compartint pastissets, cafè i bones converses amb Barcelona de fons!     Botanische Bestimmungsübungen 1 Euphorbiaceae Euphorbiaceae (Wolfsmilchgewächse) 1 Systematik und Verbreitung Die Euphorbiaceae gehören zu den Eudikotyledonen (Kerneudikotyledonen > Superrosiden > Rosiden > Fabiden). Innerhalb dieser wird die Familie zur Ordnung der Malpighiales (Malpighienartige) gestellt. Die Euphorbiaceae umfassen rund 230 Gattungen mit ca. 6.000 Arten. Sie werden in 4 Unterfamilien gegliedert: 1. Cheilosoideae, 2. Acalyphoideae, 3. Crotonoideae und 4. Euphorbioideae sowie in 6 Triben unterteilt. Die Familie ist überwiegend tropisch verbreitet mit einem Schwerpunkt im indomalaiischen Raum und in den neuweltlichen Tropen. Die Gattung Euphorbia (Wolfsmilch) ist auch in außertropischen Regionen wie z. B. dem Mittelmeerraum, in Südafrika sowie in den südlichen USA häufig. Heimisch ist die Familie mit Mercurialis (Bingelkraut; 2 Arten) und Euphorbia (Wolfsmilch; 20-30 Arten) vertreten. Abb. 1: Verbreitungskarte. 2 Morphologie 2.1 Habitus Die Familie ist sehr vielgestaltig. Es handelt sich um ein- und mehrjährige krautige Pflanzen, Halbsträucher, Sträucher bis große Bäume oder Sukkulenten. Besonders in S-Afrika und auf den Kanarischen Inseln kommen auf hitzebelasteten Trockenstandorten zahlreiche kakteenartige stammsukkulente Arten vor, die in den Sprossachsen immens viel Wasser speichern können. © PD DR. HE present study aims to study the floristic characteristics of the native trees and shrubs T(with height ≥50cm) in the Egyptian flora. The floristic characteristics include taxonomic diversity, life and sex forms, flowering activity, dispersal types,economic potential, threats and national and global floristic distributions. Nine field visits were conducted to many locations all over Egypt for collecting trees and shrubs. From each location, plant and seed specimens were collected from different habitats. In present study 228 taxa belonged to 126 genera and 45 families were recorded, including 2 endemics (Rosa arabica and Origanum syriacum subsp. sinaicum) and 5 near-endemics. They inhabit 14 habitats (8 natural and 6 anthropogenic). Phanerophytes (120 plants) are the most represented life form, followed by chamaephytes (100 plants). Bisexuals are the most represented. Sarcochores (74 taxa) are the most represented dispersal type, followed by ballochores (40 taxa). April (151 taxa) and March (149 taxa) have the maximum flowering plants. Small geographic range - narrow habitat - non abundant plants are the most represented rarity form (180 plants). Deserts are the most rich regions with trees and shrubs (127 taxa), while Sudano-Zambezian (107 taxa) and Saharo-Arabian (98 taxa) was the most. Medicinal plants (154 taxa) are the most represented good, while salinity tolerance (105 taxa) was the most represented service and over-collecting and over-cutting was the most represented threat.

Nat. Croat. Vol. 27, No. 2, 407- 420*, 2018, Zagreb. In this paper, the plant lists of glasshouse succulents grown in the Botanical Garden from 1895 to 2017 are studied. Synonymy, nomenclature and origin of plant material were sorted. The lists of species grown in the last 122 years are constructed in such a way as to show that throughout that period at least 1423 taxa of succulent plants from 254 genera and 17 families inhabited the Garden’s cold glass- house collection.     The Canary Islands Dragon Trees & Blue Chaffinches A Greentours Tour Report 7th – 16th February 2014 Leader Başak Gardner Day 1 07.02.2014 To El Patio via Guia de Isora I met the half of the group at the airport just before midday and headed towards El Guincho where our lovely hotel located. We took the semi coastal road up seeing the xerophytic scrub gradually changing to thermophile woodland and then turned towards El Teide mountain into evergreen tree zone where the main tree was Pinus canariensis. Finally found a suitable place to stop and then walked into forest to see our rare orchid, Himantoglossum metlesicsiana. There it was standing on its own in perfect condition. We took as many pics as possible and had our picnic there as well. We returned to the main road and not long after we stopped by the road side spotting several flowering Aeonium holochrysum. It was a very good stop to have a feeling of typical Canary Islands flora. We encountered plants like Euphorbia broussonetii and canariensis, Kleinia neriifolia, Argyranthemum gracile, Aeonium urbicum, Lavandula canariensis, Sonchus canariensis, Rumex lunaria and Rubia fruticosa. Driving through the windy roads we finally came to Icod De Los Vinos to see the oldest Dragon Tree. They made a little garden of native plants with some labels on and the huge old Dragon Tree in the middle. After spending some time looking at the plants that we will see in natural habitats in the following days we drove to our hotel only five minutes away. The hotel has an impressive drive that you can see the huge area of banana plantations around it.
