Located between Sydney and the Hunter Valley, the picturesque Central Coast is a popular coastal region attracting young families and retirees. The charming and inviting region offers an array of beaches, national parks, vibrant communities and holiday destinations and is home to over 340,000 citizens. Booming industries, a calendar of major local events, world class cultural and recreational attractions, high quality education and health facilities combine with the region’s natural aura to attract a growing population of families, businesses and opportunities. Citizens can enjoy a wide selection of adventures and attractions including mountain biking, bushwalking, whale watching and wildlife sanctuaries. An appealing mix of bays, inlets and lakes, golden sandy beaches, and picturesque waterfront esplanades attract not just tourists but life-long residents. The Central Coast was recently named one of the Top 10 Regional areas in Australia for capital growth. Median housing values have risen over 12% in just the past few years, with property experts predicting that figures will continue to rise for the popular region.

3 POPULATION / GROWTH

New South Wales’ Central Coast encompasses more than 80km of coastline over 1,680 square kilometres of land. The largest areas in the Coast are , Tuggerah-Wyong, Erina, Woy Woy and The Entrance. The Central Coast is home to over 4.5% of New South Wale’s population, making it the 3rd most populous city in NSW and the 9th most populous urban region is Australia. There are currently over 340,000 people residing on the Central Coast with the population estimated to rise over 15% to 400,000 in the next 15 years, providing a forever growing workforce meeting the needs of growing new business and industries. The region experiences a higher than average population growth particularly in the . Between 2016 and 2036, the population for the Central Coast population is forecast to increase by over 79,000 (23.65% growth), at an average annual growth rate of 1.07%

4 ECONOMY

The Central Coast’s economy Gross Regional Product is over $13 billion, representing 2.4% of the state’s Gross State Product. There are over 23,000 diverse businesses that contribute to Central Coast’s economy. The top sectors contributing to the region’s economy by employment are; health care and social assistance, generating over 25,000 jobs and $1.5 billion over 2017/18, followed by retail trade, construction, accommodation and food services and education and training. The Region has been listed as one of Australia’s top 10 regional areas for Capital Growth.

5 INFRASTRUCTURE / DEVELOPMENT

With such a high population forecast, there has been major investment to provide essential infrastructure throughout the Central Coast. In total, over $1 Billion is committed for current or planned infrastructure projects over the next three years. Some major projects currently in development are: Gosford Hospital Redevelopment NSW Government is investing over $368 million to the redevelopment on the Gosford Hospital over the next five years. The project currently underway will include next-generation health services including a new emergency department that will more than double the current size, a new and larger intensive care unit, expanded maternity services, a new women’s health clinic, upgraded cardiac catheterisation labs and an integrated cardio-vascular service and so much more. M1 Pacific Motorway Upgrades – Tuggerah to Doyalson Roads and Maritime is upgrading the M1 Pacific Motorway between the Tuggerah and Doyalson interchanges to improve traffic flow and safety. The upgrade will provide three lanes in each direction and a 9km road upgrade to a smoother and more durable surface. The project will improve road drainage and improve overall safety for NSW drivers. The project is expected to be completed in 2020, weather permitting.

6 INFRASTRUCTURE / DEVELOPMENT

Gosford Cultural Precinct Central Coast Council is developing the Gosford Cultural Precinct, which will be an integrated cultural hub connecting Gosford Regional Library and Innovation Hub and the Regional Performing Arts and Conference Centre. The Precinct will help achieve the Community Strategic Plan’s goal to create a growing and competitive region by establishing Gosford CBD as a key destination which attracts businesses, local residents, visitors and tourists. The new development is expected to have a positive economic impact on the region, generating more than 1,450 jobs as a result of construction, plus an additional 645 jobs predicted once construction is complete. The Central Coast Regional Sporting and Recreation Complex The Central Coast Regional Sporting and Recreation Complex opened in March 2019 after stage one of the construction was complete. The Complex is a designed to accommodate sporting and recreational events whilst bringing social, health and economic benefits to the local and wider community. The facility is located in Tuggerah and consists of nine playing fields, over 2km of shared pathways, landscaping, car parks and bus zones. Dedicated to the region’s economic development, Central Coast Council invested $13.71 million towards the $23.71 million to build stage one of the Complex, which was jointly funded with the support of a $10 million grant from the Australian Government. The Central Coast is booming. With tourist attractions, local developments and major infrastructure on the rise, thousands of families will be looking at Central Coast to locate for their future.

7 TRANSPORT

The Central Coast is easily accessible by car with the Sydney- Newcastle Freeway, Pacific Motorway, Central Coast Highway and the Pacific Highway servicing the region. The Central Coast is also accessible by public transport with the Sydney-Newcastle railway line and Warnervale Airport. NSW TrainLink, Sydney-Newcastle railway line, offers a variety of train services through the Central Coast region, travelling directly from Sydney to Newcastle taking approximately 2.5 - 3 hours. There are also busses that will travel throughout the Central Coast, giving residents the opportunity to leave the car at home. Bus services are provided by Busways and Hunter Valley Busses.

The Central Coast is serviced by the Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD) to provide public health services to the communities of the region. The region is primarily served by the Gosford and Wyong hospitals. Gosford Hospital is the principal referral hospital and regional trauma centre for the Central Coast, while Wyong Hospital is a major metropolitan hospital.
