  • A Spasso Con Frank

What Book? I don't want to write a book, but I'm going to do it anyway, because Peter Occhiogrosso is going to help me. He is a writer. He likes books -- he even reads them. I think it is good that books still exist, but they make me sleepy. The way we're going to do it is, Peter will come to California and spend a few weeks recording answers to 'fascinating questions,' then the tapes will be transcribed. Peter will edit them, put them on floppy discs, send them back to me, I will edit them again, and that result will be sent to Ann Patty at Poseidon Press, and she will make it come out to be 'A BOOK.' One of the reasons for doing this is the proliferation of stupid books (in several languages) which purport to be About Me .

DESCRIPTORS *Bands (Music); Content Analysis; Discographies; *Music; Musicians; *Popular Culture IDENTIFIERS Media History; Music Ensembles; *Rock and Roll; *Rock Music ABSTRACT Based on the argument that (contrary to critical opinion) the musicians in the various bands associated with Bosstown Sound were indeed talented, cohesive individuals and that the bands' lack of renown was partially a result of ill-treatment by record companies and the press, this paper traces the development of the Bosstown Sound from its beginnings in the nightclubs of Boston in 1967 to its end in 1969. In addition, the paper provides complete discographies, including critical commentary, of records produced by bands associated with the Bosstown Sound. The bands of the Bosstown Sound include: The Apple Pie Motherhood Band, The Bagatelle, The Beacon Street Union, Bo Grumpus, Eagle, Earth Opera, Eden's Children, Sure Looks Real, The Ill Wind, Jolliver Arkansaw, Orpheus, Phluph, Puff, and Ultimate Spinach. • Rock Album Discography Last Up-Date: September 27Th, 2021
Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.

  • Every Morning, Since Our Neighbor Behind Us Had a B Hay When I Raked
CHAPTER 1 Growing Up n the beginning I was allergic to everything—except music. I My birth mother was from Boston. The only thing I know about her is that she asked a doctor to find me a new home. I have tried to dis- cover who she was and what became of her, but she covered her tracks very well. My adoptive parents, Mabel Evelyn Chapin and Chester Fremont Colwell, were in their early forties. We lived in a modest house in the town of Winchester, a Boston suburb. I heard roosters crowing every morning, since our neighbor behind us had a barn. I smelled fresh hay when I raked the leaves with my dad. Chester was an engineer for Cuneo Press of New England/ Ginn & Company publishers in nearby Cambridge, one of the most successful high school and college textbook printers in America. Mabel was an artist and housewife. Their only biological Me, age nine Credit: © Cerphe Archive GROWING UP when I got to prep school, but I eventually learned that it’s better not to scratch certain itches. All that smoking, paint fumes, and a giant bowl of chocolate ice cream after most meals didn’t seem to hurt my dad any. Pop lived to be ninety- one and was going strong right to the end, proving something I’d sur- mised years earlier. Chet was the exception, not the rule. And then there was my mother’s devotion to hand-painted china. She had a very active kiln and elevated its use in our home from a hobby to a local home-grown business.

CHAPTER 11 The Record Plant: Magical Seeds Halloween Masquerade Ball Studio Opening Dancing BYOD October 29 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. RSVP 415-332-2755 In the fall of 1972, the who’s who of the music business in L.A., New York, San Francisco, and beyond received this invitation on a slab of California redwood from Chris Stone and Gary Kellgren, owners of ! e Record Plant studios in Sausalito, California. John Lennon and Yoko Ono showed up dressed as trees, their presence a clear indication of the level of clientele ! e Record Plant’s Northern California outpost (they also helped launch ! e Record Plant’s L.A. and New York facilities) would attract. As the grand-opening bash raged through Sunday morning, word spread fast that this new stu- dio across the Bay was a party getaway for the rich and famous. 110 Chapter 11 The Record Plant: Magical Seeds With its Jacuzzi, guest houses, organic chefs, and rooms with waterbed fl oors—not to mention the laughing gas masks hanging from one control room ceiling and two fake walls leading to an escape route in case of a drug bust—! e Record Plant refl ected the excess of the times in grand, glitzy L.A. style. It also brought to San Francisco one of the industry’s fi rst “resort” studios: one that would off er good equipment and better times. It was one of the fi rst inde- pendently owned studios in town with the cache to bring in top-tier talent. At Sausalito’s “living room” studio, clients could take an extended vacation from label-town recording, stay in a beautiful city, and record in a high-end studio that off ered as many or more perks as a four-star hotel.
