La ricerca vuole offrire spunti di riflessione su un’ area della Sicilia dalla storia antica: la Contea di Modica. Una storia, quella della Contea, che affonda le proprie radici indietro nel tempo, scandita da diverse dominazioni che hanno lasciato i “segni” impressi sul territorio, interessato da nefasti eventi naturali che hanno determinato via via l’assetto urbanistico, politico, economico e sociale. Per meglio comprendere le caratteristiche dei centri, che un tempo fecero parte della gloriosa Contea, si è cercato di cogliere gli aspetti percettivi anche attraverso la cartografia storica, che contribuisce a dare il “senso dei luoghi” e la loro “immagine”. Obiettivo del lavoro è quello di evidenziare le forti potenzialità turistiche di questo territorio, non soltanto per la presenza di un patrimonio artistico di valore inestimabile, eredità delle variegate ed alterne vicende umane espresse nelle diverse forme di cultura materiale ed immateriale, ma anche per i grandi giacimenti naturali. Sono stati, inoltre, indagati i punti di forza di Ragusa, Modica e Scicli, città che appartennero all’antica Contea. Questi tre centri fanno parte con Caltagirone, Catania, Militello in Val di Catania e Noto di un ampio progetto denominato il “Piano di Gestione del Val di Noto” che ha come obiettivo l’analisi di tutte le risorse comprese in questa vasta area avente come unico comune denominatore il Barocco, già riconosciuto dall’Unesco patrimonio dell’umanità, e coglierne nel contempo le differenze.

DAY 1 | We will meet at the Virtu Ferries port at 05.00 am to catch the catamaran leaving at 06.30 am. Upon arrival in Pozzallo, we will have a half-day excursion starting from Modica, which is one of southern Sicily’s most distinctive towns which is mainly renowned for its chocolate and coffee-making. After having a relaxing morning, we will head to our hotel – 4* Le Magnolie Resort in Frigintini for check-in, have lunch (included), and some free time to rest. Late afternoon, we will leave for Ragusa Ibla. This city is famous for its incredible cultural attractions such as the Giardino Ibleo and St George’s Cathedral. In Ragusa Ibla you will have enough time to roam around and dine in one of Ragusa Ibla’s dining choices such as pizzerias, trattorias, and also restaurants (extra). Pick-up and transfer to hotel, late evening. DAY 2 | Breakfast will be taken at the hotel (included). Today we will have a full day excursion with the first stop in the quaint island of Ortigia, in the historical heart of Siracusa. One of the most famous squares in Sicily, Piazza Duomo, can be found in this beautiful city of Ortigia, surrounded by magnificent baroque palaces, where you PRICE PER ADULT will have time to relax, sit down for a drink and enjoy the atmosphere.

    Cape Cod Catboat Instructions: Follow these instructions carefully and step by step. The rigging lines of the boat could tangle easily so do not undo the lines until instructed. 1. Unwrap the hull and stand. Place the hull into the stand with the hull facing forward to your right. Keep the starboard side of the boat facing you in order to follow the instructions and to compare with the diagrams. 2. Study brass eye “A” and the cleats on the boat. There are 7 cleats on this model but we will only be using 3-7. They each have a fixed position that corresponds to different rigging lines and sail sheets of the boat. See diagram (1). 3. Unwrap the packing of the mast; find brass eyes G1, G2, G3, G4, & G5 on the mast. The brass eyes must face towards the stern of the boat. Insert the mast into the mast step on the deck. 4. Unpack the sail. You may want to press the sail with an iron to get out any wrinkles. Find the headstay line on the front top portion of the mast. Attach the line to eye A on the bow. See diagram (1). 5. Put the gaff jaw at the end of gaff pole to brass eye M on the mast. Then find a pin at the end of the boom, insert the pin to a brass hole about 1 inch up the mast from the deck. Find a block with hook on the topping lift line. Attach the hook of the line to eye G1, then lead the line down the mast and through an eye at the bottom of the mast, starboard side, then fix the end of the line to cleat 4 on the cockpit bulkhead.

In addition to operating The Gallery on Greene, Nance has authored several books on renowned Key West artist, Mario Sanchez and coordinated the donation of his work to the Smithsonian. She’s also curated museums in Switzerland and Chile, and she’s served as a founding board member for several local art associations and foundations. With an extensive collection of contemporary fine art by master artists, Pulitzer Prize winners, and Cuban greats, Gallery on Greene is considered to be one of Key West’s most preeminent galleries. Nance Frank’s unbridled enthusiasm for curating local art that captures the heritage, culture and local charm of the Keys from 1934 to present day, provides a fantastic look into the minds of the most creative people who have lived in the Florida Keys.
