The work will premiere at MAG on April 22 and remain on view through June 17. NOSFERATU (The Undead) is the first exhibition to be presented as part of “Reflections on Place,” a series of media art commissions inspired by the City of Rochester, New York, and curated by world-renowned authority on the moving image John G. Hanhardt. Téllez’ film was inspired by Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens, the expressionist silent masterpiece directed by F. W. Murnau in 1922. Téllez made the work in collaboration with people living with mental illness after a series of workshops that he conducted on the subjects of vampirism and the representation of psychiatric institutions in film. Combining black-and-white 16mm and color digital film, NOSFERATU (The Undead) was shot at the Eastman Kodak factory, the Dryden Theatre of the George Eastman Museum, and at the Main Street Armory, all in Rochester. “We chose a vampire for the main character of the film,” said Téllez, “because we wanted to reflect on light and darkness as the fundamental principles of -

(March 12, 2009) – Rona Pondick: The Metamorphosis of an Object opens at the Worcester Art Museum on April 18, 2009 and is on view through October 11, 2009. Rona Pondick Muskrat 2005 H: 10 inches (25.40 cm) W: 12 ½ inches (31.75 cm) D: 4 5/8 inches (11.68 cm) Since achieving international prominence in the early 1990s, Rona Pondick (b. 1952) has become one of the most accomplished sculptors of her generation. Over the past decade, she has combined both ancient sculptural methods and the latest computer technologies to produce a powerful group of hybrid sculptures that fuse human and animal bodies or human and flora forms. Unlike other considerations of her sculpture, this exhibition presents Pondick’s art as the lens for looking at centuries of world sculpture from the collection of the Worcester Art Museum that she feels resonate with her own creative process. Provocative juxtapositions of Pondick’s hybrids with a personal selection of historic sculptures illustrate her connections to the past and her understanding of the effects of artistic cross-fertilization. The exhibition features 14 examples of Pondick’s sculptures from the past decade and focuses on her particular interest in three aspects of sculpture—the communicative capacity of gesture and posture, the treatment of hair, and the effects of repetition. Press Release 19th April 2013 Irish artist featured at world’s most prestigious Art Biennale Minister Jimmy Deenihan, TD, announces Ireland’s Representation for the 55th International Art Exhibition at Dublin Launch in RHA The Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Jimmy Deenihan TD, will today (19 April 2013), be joined by artists, curators and invited guests at the Dublin launch of Ireland's representation at the 55th International Art Exhibition in Venice. Ireland at Venice is an initiative of the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht's Culture Ireland division in partnership with the Arts Council, the Irish Government agency for funding and developing the arts. Richard Mosse has been selected as the artist to represent Ireland at the Venice Art Biennale and Anna O’Sullivan, Director of the Butler Gallery is the Commissioner. The Venice Biennale has for a century held its place as the most important international showcase for visual arts and in recent years has attracted 400,000 visitors. Speaking at the launch in the Royal Hibernian Academy, Minister Jimmy Deenihan TD., said "the Biennale represents an immense opportunity for Irish artists to present their work at the leading visual arts showcase in the world and to gain international exposure to high profile curators and collectors.’ He went on to say that this showcase is not only a focus on Richard but is also an opportunity to attract attention to the depth, strength and diversity of a generation of visual artists working in Ireland. MARC STRAUS NEW YORK RONA PONDICK Opening Reception: October 24, 2018, 6:00pm – 8:00pm On View: October 24 - December 16, 2018 MARC STRAUS is pleased to present our inaugural solo exhibition of Rona Pondick, featuring a new body of work five years in the making. Pondick’s new works feature semi-transparent clear blocks encasing her head rendered in brilliant contrasting color. The heads appear in various orientations, sometimes even floating partway out of their evanescent domain. The blocks have subtle contours and worked edges, paying fealty to the sculptor’s hand. They are made from resin, acrylic and an epoxy modeling compound; new materials for Pondick who experimented endlessly to achieve a harmony of form, color, and emotional depth. One indelible quality of the new work is the use of sonorous color. Each work features a dominant hue and no more than four different colors, for which Rona Pondick, Encased Yellow, 2015-2017 the work is titled. These are intimate and yet powerful works that shift with Pigmented resin and acrylic 10 1/16 x 11 3/8 x 11 1/2 in (25.6 x 28.9 x 29.2 cm) our positioning. In the floor pieces, Pondick’s head is atop a small body-like form. In Curly Grey (2016-2018) a head with texture so much like skin, rests upon a mass that looks as if it is made of jumbled packing peanuts. Below, two forms, perhaps feet, stick out cheekily as though this figure is struggling to get up. From the tilt of Sitting Yellow (2013-2018), one asks the question is the figure resting or incapacitated? The authority of these sculptures very much resides in our apprehension of their psychological dynamics ─ our own fears, hopes, and history become poignant. -

Nordstrom Unveils New Fall Fashion Campaign August 7, 2017 Retailer showcases fashion through the lens of photographer Max Farago and director Clara Cullen SEATTLE, Aug. 7, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Nordstrom, Inc. launched a new national brand campaign shot by photographer Max Farago with video by director Clara Cullen, which celebrates the best of fall fashion. The campaign will debut on August 7 in the U.S. and on September 4 in Canada with print, digital, social, out of home and video components. The campaign vision and concept was developed by Olivia Kim, Vice President of Creative Projects at Nordstrom, who has set the creative tone for the retailer's last five brand campaigns. Sean Scully, 1945 — Sean Scully (b. 1945, Dublin, Ireland) is an American-Irish artist who is internationally recognised for his distinctive abstract compositions that interrogate the properties of light, colour and form. Scully studied painting at Croydon College of Art, London and Newcastle University, UK, where he began to work in abstraction. During a trip to Morocco in 1969, Scully was strongly influenced by the local textiles and rich colours of the region, which he translated into the broad horizontal stripes and deep earth tones that characterise his mature style. Scully’s travels throughout Morocco and Mexico would also prompt his decision to move from Minimalism to a more emotional and humanistic form of abstraction. Following fellowships in 1972 and 1975 at Harvard University, Scully’s paintings became increasingly monumental and sculptural, consisting of interconnected three-dimensional panels that anticipated his later sculpture practice. In 1984 he began to develop the Wall of Light series, replacing the precise stripes of his early paintings with solid blocks of colour, built with increasingly loose and feathered brushstrokes into vertical and horizontal ‘bricks’ that suggest a wall of stone. Subtle differences in colour in the paintings indicate the location in which they were created, the changing seasons and the artist’s own emotions. This series formed the subject of a major touring exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York in 2007. In 1984 Scully achieved international breakthrough through his inclusion in the major group exhibition An International Survey of Recent Painting and Sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
