Coetzee, and Salman Rushdie incorporate their celebrity and canonical status as authors into the fictional worlds of their novels. The contemporary celebrity author in general is at the mercy of a more globalized publication industry that depends on a circuit of international circulation, translation, and the diverse reactions of a transnational readership. More specifically, each of the authors I focus on in this dissertation have become notorious, both for their professional literary achievements as well as various political or sexual scandals running alongside their publication history. The decentralization of the author’s power to control his own image as it becomes stratified across a multiplicity of competing discourses, audiences, and marketplaces is spurred on by a literary marketplace that favors world literature, international circulation, and the whims of readership response. Thus, the need to revise or challenge the public perception of their authorship is constantly at stake for these figures – so much so that they introduce doppelgänger versions of themselves into their fiction to negotiate this relationship. -

In fact, there had been different schools of thought who supported the Movement and their works and achievements cannot be forgotten. Historically, Ulema played a key role in the politics of subcontinent and the contribution of Dar ul Uloom Deoband, Mazahir-ul- Uloom (Saharanpur), Madrassa Qasim-ul-Uloom( Muradabad), famous madaris of Deobandi faction is a settled fact. Their role became both effective and emphatic with the passage of time when they sided with the All India Muslim League. Their role and services in this historic episode is the focus of the study in hand. Keywords: Deoband, Aligarh Movement, Khilafat, Muslim League, Congress Ulama in Politics: Retrospect: Besides performing their religious obligations, the religious ulema also took part in the War of Freedom 1857, similar to the other Indians, and it was only due to their active participation that the movement became in line and determined. These ulema used the pen and sword to fight against the British and it is also a fact that ordinary causes of 1857 War were blazed by these ulema. Mian Muhammad Shafi writes: Who says that the fire lit by Sayyid Ahmad was extinguished or it had cooled down? These were the people who encouraged Muslims and the Hindus to fight against the British in 1857. -

Azzam was born in Jenin, Palestine in 1941, and was evicted from his hometown of Jenin in the 1967 Six‐Day War. He spent years pursuing his studies in Islamic jurisprudence attending university in Syria and graduating with a doctorate in Islamic studies from the prestigious Al‐Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt. He was nicknamed the fighting cleric for his obsession with jihadist ideology and the militant works of ibn Taymiyyah (1258 AD). Azzam believed the only way to reclaim his lost homeland was through violent jihad which later became his bsession. On or about 1980, Azzam realized that the Arab jihadists fighting the Soviets in Afghanistan required organization, safe house, and structure. He established Maktab al‐Khidmat lil Mujahideen (The Services Offices for Arab Jihadists) which attracted Usama Bin Laden, then graduating from King Abdul‐ Aziz University to join his new venture. Azzam convinced Bin Laden that his financial connections, business experience, and dedication would be of great use to his new organization in Pakistan. -

Bangladesh Decision – 28th July 2018 Today on 28th July 2018 under the guidance of the Ulama of Bangladesh, the elders of the effort and the government of Bangladesh, approximately 600,000 to 700,000 people gathered in Dhaka. The following six matters were agreed: 1) Jamhoor Ulama are unanimous that because of three reasons, following Moulana Muhammad Saad Kandhlawi is not permissible. a) Incorrect and personalised interpretations of the Quran and Hadith. b) To enhance the importance of the effort of Dawah, resorting to degrading other efforts of Deen. c) Moving away from the methodology of the previous three elders; Hazrat Moulana Muhammad Ilyas (R), Hazrat Moulana Muhammad Yusuf (R) and Hazrat Moulana Inamul Hasan (R). 2) The disregard of Moulana Muhammad Saad of the Shura methodology adopted by Hazrat Moulana Inamul Hasan (R) and his insistence upon being Amir. This will not be accepted in Kakrail in any form. 3) Darul Uloom Deoband’s fear that Moulana Muhammad Saad has moved away from the ideology of Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama’ah and has resorted to create another group. Therefore, at the moment it is strongly advised that no Bangladeshi Jamat etc travels to Nizamuddin. Similarly, no Jamat from Nizamuddin will be allowed a route in any area of Bangladesh. 4) The effort of Dawah has gained acceptance as per the methodology adopted by the previous three elders. Therefore, this effort will continue on this methodology and under the guidance of the elders of Deoband. No new methodology will be adopted. Kajrail, Tongi an all other Marakiz will work accordingly only. -

10: Islamic education in Myanmar: a case study Mohammed Mohiyuddin Mohammed Sulaiman Introduction `Islam', which literally means `peace' in Arabic, has been transformed into a faith interpreted loosely by one group and understood conservatively by another, making it seem as if Islam itself is not well comprehended by its followers. Today, it is the faith of 1.2 billion people across the world; Asia is a home for 60 per cent of these adherents, with Muslims forming an absolute majority in 11 countries (Selth 2003:5). Since the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001, international scholars have become increasingly interested in Islam and in Muslims in South-East Asia, where more than 230 million Muslims live (Mutalib 2005:50). These South-East Asian Muslims originally received Islam from Arab traders. History reveals the Arabs as sea-loving people who voyaged around the Indian Ocean (IIAS 2005), including to South-East Asia. The arrival of Arabs has had different degrees of impact on different communities in the region. We find, however, that not much research has been done by today's Arabs on the Arab±South-East Asian connection, as they consider South-East Asia a part of the wider `East', which includes Iran, Central Asia and the Indian subcontinent. Indeed, the term `South-East Asia' is hardly used in modern Arab literature. For them, anything east of the Middle East and non-Arabic speaking world is considered to be `Asia' (Abaza 2002). According to Myanmar and non-Myanmar sources, Islam reached the shores of Myanmar's Arakan (Rakhine State) as early as 712 AD, via oceangoing merchants, and in the form of Sufism. -

Hukum taklifi adalah ketentuan hukum yang menuntut para mukallaf (aqil-baligh) atau orang yang dipandang oleh hukum cakap melakukan perbuatan hukum baik dalam bentuk hak, kewajiban, maupun dalam bentuk larangan. Apabila orang ingin mempelajari Islam dari sudut disiplin ilmu hukum, ia tidak mungkin menggunakan “western approach” yang sudah terbiasa semata-mata mengkaji kondisi dan pengaruh tipe tertentu dari sikap prilaku sosial yang penuh dengan prasangka. Brief Analysis Khamenei’s latest guidelines for Iranian culture and governance focus on resisting any efforts to reform the regime’s decisionmaking tendencies. n October 14, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei released a draft of the “Islamic-Iranian Blueprint for Progress,” O a document that outlines his vision for the next half century. The final version of this blueprint is not expected to be released for months, so publicizing a draft now may be an attempt to address some of Tehran’s current difficulties, including increased U.S. pressure, consecutive economic shocks, and mounting public suspicion about the regime’s durability and legitimacy. At their core, the document’s prescriptions reveal Khamenei’s two-pronged vision for achieving regional, even global, supremacy: first, total Islamization of all facets of life, which means continuing to resist Western notions of international order, politics, and culture; second, the use of advanced scientific achievements to become technologically self-reliant. In short, the regime seems to be placing its bets on an even deeper marriage of fundamentalist ideology and modern technology. Nation-State Islam after the Islamic State Jonathan Laurence, Boston College and Reset Dialogues, November 2019 The Spring revolutions that swept through the MENA region heralded nearly two decades of unprecedented (if sporadic) open elections (2002-2019). As part of this opening, political Islamist parties rose to their peak visibility and power in Turkey, Lebanon, Gaza, Iraq, Tunisia, Egypt, Libya and Morocco. Two inflection points indicated a new appraisal of Islamist challenges — first Ikhwanism on audiotape and Salafism via satellite, then al Qaeda and Islamic State (ISIS) online -- when anti-sectarian tactics and professionalization met. This trend interacted with different national scenarios. Morocco and Turkey (2002-2004) experienced it before Algeria and Tunisia (2011-); these countries’ physical and spiritual contiguity exposed them to the same succession of ideological assaults. The state attitude may be summarized thus: if they did not standardize religious education and strengthen the training of Imams, Muftis and ulema against an array of politicizing influences, they risked Islamic spaces and personnel becoming factional tools or channels of influence for external agents. An international Salafi movement tried to nudge public practices and opinion towards a fundamentalist Islamic order. The declaration of a Caliphate in Iraq and al Shams also deeply spooked states in the region. On the fourth day of Ramadan in the Islamic year 1435 (July 2014), a former U.S. prisoner of war and recent theology doctorate from Saddam University strode up to the minbar (pulpit) of the medieval al Nuri mosque in Iraq's second largest city, Mosul. He called upon Muslims to make hijra — return migrate — to the new Islamic State.
