    2019 Signature Chenin Blanc Napa Valley Winemaker Phillip Corallo-Titus The Wine Our Chenin Blanc has a long and storied history on Pritchard Hill®. The original vines were already producing when Donn and Molly purchased the property in the late 1960s. Following a replanting in 2004, we reintroduced our Chenin Blanc as a “Signature” designation – with a twist. While our Signature Cabernet bear Donn Chappellet’s name, Molly Chappellet’s signature graces our Chenin Blanc label. To add depth and complexity, the 2019 Chenin Blanc was fermented in a combination of neutral French oak barrels and stainless steel tanks. Growing Season & Harvest The 2019 growing season began with cool, rainy weather throughout winter and spring, which delayed budbreak slightly and resulted in a robust crop and vigorous canopies. To create the desired vine balance, we thinned leaves and clusters extensively, doing as many as three fruit-dropping passes depending on the needs of each vine. The weather remained temperate throughout summer, followed by perfectly timed warm weather in October. As a result, early ripening grapes like Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay yielded wines with dazzling aromatics, lovely energy and pure, fresh flavors, while our later-ripening varieties provided gorgeous color and concentration, with supple tannins and rich, soaring flavors. Tasting Notes This sophisticated expression of mountain-grown Chenin Blanc offers enticing aromas of citrus blossom, orange zest, subtle tropical fruit, fresh-cut hay and delicate minerality. On the palate it is pure and focused, with lively energy and vibrant flavors of Meyer Lemon and guava that resonate on the bright, fresh Wine Statistics finish.

    Celebrating 50 Years of Family Farming An Anderson Valley Icon Founded in 1968, Husch Vineyards has now been growing fruit for over 50 years. Many of those original Gewurztraminer and Chardonnay vines continue to produce fruit to this day. In 1971 Husch added Pinot Noir to the mix and the first wines were crafted in a small shed on the property, making Husch the first bonded winery in the Anderson Valley. By 1980 Husch added Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc to its portfolio of food-friendly wines. Three Generations of Family Tradition Siblings Zac Robinson and Amanda Holstine continue to run the winery today much like their Grandfather Hugo Oswald did decades ago.   • Chenin Blanc 2019
    2019 Chenin Blanc Mendocino County Background Chenin Blanc produces some of the greatest white wines of France. In the Loire region, the wines of Savennieres, Vouvray, and Saumur produce a wide range of styles of Chenin Blanc from sparkling, to sweet and everything in between. Vineyards The grapes for this Chenin Blanc come from the Heil Vineyard located on the eastern side of the Ukiah Valley. This head-trained vineyard is over 50 years old and is situated on a bench, just off the Russian River. It is grown on a special, unique soil called Pinoli white clay-loam. This soil resists Phylloxera, allowing these vines to be grown on their original, ungrafted rootstock. This is one the oldest and one of the last remaining Chenin Blanc vineyards in Mendocino County. Winemaking This Chenin Blanc was made in a dry European style with crisp clean aromas and flavors of pears, apples and minerals. Its body is full and rich but well-balanced by ample mouth-watering acidity. The wine was 100% fermented in neutral French Burgundy oak barrels and “sur-lie” aged for 12 months. No prolonged malo-lactic fermentation was allowed which could destroy the wine’s acidity and fruity aroma. Winemaker Comments This wine combines the mineral-laced steely acidity and structure of a classic Loire style wine, with the rich, creamy texture and roundness and fullness of fruit of a California wine. Aromas of wet stone, peaches, pear, and citrus all comingle in this racy, complex wine.     HELLER ESTATE 100% Organically Grown “Wines That Dance On Your Palate!” 2014 ESTATE MERLOT Aroma: Black tea leaf, ripe French plums and aromatic bay laurel greet the nose with more subtle notes of dried currants, cola and white pepper. Palate: Youthful, bright mouth feel with predominant flavors of ripe plum, black tea and spices. This wine has a fruity, full bodied structure with dusty tannins. Finishing with a wonderful mocha characteristic. This is a power house Merlot. Pair this wine with a juicy cut of prime rib roast, garlic mashed potatoes and green beans, black eye peas cooked with a ham hock, sundried tomatoes and kalamata olives or even with dark chocolate truffles for dessert. Comments: Consistent with a very early start to the growing season, with many areas having bud break early, Harvest in most parts of the vineyard, such as the Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc and Pinot Noir, started and finished earlier than any other in 20 years. In general, yields were average, with excellent fruit quality. Most varietals showed nice balance, with slightly lower acidity due to warmer-than-normal night temperatures.
