BUSINESS UNIT OVERVIEW The Faculty of Health comprises three Schools, covering a number of disciplines including Nursing, Midwifery, Sport and Exercise Science, Physiotherapy, Nutrition and Dietetics, Pharmacy, Public Health, Psychology, Counselling, Medical Radiation Science, Diagnostic Pathology, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Pathology. It is the home for the Health Research Institute (HRI), Research Institute for Sport and Exercise (RISE) and the Nursing and Midwifery Research Centre – SYNERGY, a partnership between University of Canberra and ACT Health. In addition, Health also plays a leading role in relation to the development of the University’s Health Precinct.

The Faculty has a strong and collegiate focus on collaboration among the disciplines, including several cross- disciplinary courses. Students gain supervised professional experience as part of their academic program and on completion of their degrees our graduates are ready for immediate entry to their profession. The research of the Faculty of Health has grown rapidly in recent years, with fourfold increase in papers, higher degree graduates and research funding since 2008. In 2019 we achieved ERA rankings of 5 in public health and health services, and clinical sciences research, and ERA 4 in nursing, human movement and sports science, medical and health sciences.

POSITION PURPOSE The Research Services Manager will operate under the broad direction of the Faculty General Manager and in collaboration with the Directors, HRI and RISE, and the Faculty of Health, Associate Dean, Research and Innovation. The Research Services Manager is expected to work with a degree of autonomy and will provide advice and responsibility at an operational level within the Faculty with respect to the Faculty’s research agenda. The incumbent of this position requires sound contract, budget and people management skills to effectively deliver an efficient, innovative and diverse range of services to research staff in the Faculty. This will include liaising with different parts of the University, including most extensively the Research Services Office, Finance, Engagement Office, UC People, and other Faculty Administrative units.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES The occupant of this position will be required to:

1. Oversee and manage the efficient and effective operational and administrative structure, functions, policy and procedures of the Faculty’s research activities ensuring a customer-focused service that supports all aspects of the Faculty’s research agenda; 2. Manage and be responsible for the continuous improvement of operational and administrative structure, processes, and policy of the Faculty’s research activities; 3. Manage and provide leadership to Faculty Research Support staff; 4. Work with the Directors HRI and RISE, ADR&I, and research staff to ensure the highest standard of grant applications, associated budgets and funding proposals to achieve competitive research grants for the Faculty; 5. Establish and manage practices and procedures to ensure that the Faculty meets its financial, reporting and audit requirements to the University in relation to research; 6. Provide administrative and operational expertise to the General Manager, Directors HRI and RISE, and ADR&I in undertaking capital and operational business planning including developing budgets, forecasts and business plans for the Faculty’s research agenda; 7. Provide operational expertise for the General Manager, Directors HRI and RISE, and ADR&I to undertake environmental scanning to ensure the Faculty maximises research grant opportunities, including establishing and maintaining strategic relationships with stakeholders; 8. Undertake other duties appropriate to the level, as required.
