To all players, family members and friends, Season 2003/04 was undoubtedly the most successful season in the Club’s history. Starting from Grass-roots, our juniors excelled, with the Under 16’s taking out BPCC maiden Junior Premiership title. Our Under 10’s, were easily the benchmark side in the competition, though under the new rules, there’s no competition ladder as such. The Under 11’s missed out on the finals, with Mother Nature not helping out through the season. The Under 12’s missed the finals by a whisker, while the Under 13’s did make the semi finals, but unfortunately didn’t progress to the final. With the seniors, all but 3rd Grade made the finals, with 2nd and 5th Grade making the step to the Final. 5th Grade was unlucky on the day, while 2nd Grade won the Premiership in great style against North Richmond. With BPCC winning in our senior teams in both the Junior and Senior competitions shows we are a true force in the district and shows we have a great future. Like years gone and what we have planned for next season, BPCC had a great social presence within the Club. Firstly with the Trivia Nights, hosted for the first time by Danny, Duane and John, who did a great job, made it an extremely fun night for all that attended and helped raise the funds required for the Club. The Super-8’s was also another success story. We have a huge attendance with a lot of fun, plenty of wickets and plenty of runs scored. Shane Pollards 5th Grade took the title out this year. I’m sure you’ll find this year book very interesting while you compare your statistics against everybody else’s, not only from this year, but from years gone by. We do still have some missing information. If anyone can provide information to fill the gaps, it will be greatly appreciated. Like any sporting clubs, it takes a great deal of time and effort from many people to make it all happen. The following deserve a big Thank You: The Captains, scorers, parents, other relatives and team staff who help out with the day to day functions of each team Every player who played to the true spirit of the game. Our sponsors – who without them would make it impossible to run a sporting club To the Committee who’s valued input has directed the club to where it is today and where it’s going in the future. This includes everybody who has helped in the operations of the club, such as registrations, canteen and ground duties, regardless who has been playing. As tonight concludes this season, we are all eagerly awaiting season 2004/05. With even further growth predicted, BPCC can only get stronger and the players and teams get better. Have a fun off-season and we’ll see you next season! The year started off well with two outright wins which put us in first place. From that point on, nothing went our way. The weather rained on the days when we were looking like winning, and when we needed Mother Nature to intervene it was close to 40 degree’s. Heading into the last few games, our chances for making the finals grew thinner than my hair…. It came down to the last game of the season, which without much of a surprise, we lost. This left us dependant on the result of another game, and something happened that was not supposed too.. Luck went our way.. Nothing to lose… 4th place and in the finals. To some, this might seem a daunting situation, but to the mighty BPCC 2nd grade, it was the opportunity to prove to our critics from season 01/02 when we won the final by default, that we were more than deserving of our crown. As luck would have it, we were up against the same foes from the 01/02 final. The 03/04 semi-final was the match that had both teams playing for more than a finals birth, we were playing for pride. BPCC were sent in to bat and left the scorers with plenty of ink left in the pen, having been bowled out for 103 in the most crucial game of the season. With Pitt Town on a high, they started their innings in a natural scoring manner and ended the day with everything but the win on 2 for 69… As you can imagine, the Clarendon Tavern seen the boys down a few as the season was looking like it was going to end very early the next morning. Fate, it seems, had other ideas. Sunday morning came around and with the game seemingly lost, BPCC had nothing to lose. The 3rd wicket fell when the score was 79, leaving the minor premiers 24 runs left to get with 7 wickets in hand. The next hour was some of the toughest cricket we have ever played. Pitt Town choked on their confidence and fell 2 runs short of victory for 101. BPCC had won the first innings and had done what had seemed to be impossible. The rest of the day ended up fizzling out with the weather which seen the underdogs secure their place in the 2nd grade final for season 03/04. (2nd Grade Season in review cont.) For anyone who witnessed the final, all that can be said is that it was the best performance BPCC had ever put on to a cricket field, and I am willing to argue that with anyone. We bowled and fielded like a true champion side. In demoralising fashion, we knocked over North Richmond for 127, and unlike Pitt Town, we chased the total in net practise fashion as the openers smashed their way to score 79 between them. Up until this point, I must admit, I would have thought the best cricket we played all year was done at the Clarendon Tavern on Saturday nights. Replying with 287, we had combined as a complete batting unit for the first time all season and had more than doubled the asking total set the previous day. North Richmond had nothing to lose, took up the unlikely task of attempting an outright turn-around. This proved in vain, as North Richmond scraped over the mark by 16 runs and left us with 17 runs to complete an outright smashing in the 03/04 2nd Grade final. The rest is inscribed on our Premiership trophy.. At this point I’d like to thank the Clarendon Tavern for providing a place to mourn our losses and celebrate our lucky wins, which funnily enough turned into thrashings after a few golden strokes… Being my first year as a captain of a side (other than indoor), I received an abundance of support from my peers and those old blokes that made up numbers, I thank you. And last but not least, I’d like to thank Ray Bremner, for what I don’t know, just for being Ray Bremner… Thanks Ray… Regards, Danny Apps BPCC 2nd Grade ‘Premiership’ Captain BLIGH PARK CRICKET CLUB 2nd GRADE AVERAGES BATTING BOWLING FIELDING Ct Ct NAME Mtchs Inns NO HS Runs Average Overs Mdns Runs Wkts Average (F) (W/K) Stpd Points Daniel Apps 14 16 1 71 404 26.93 29 122 5 24.40 12 1 1 629 Luke Roberts 12 13 1 63 301 25.08 90 341 14 24.36 6 571 Craig Shepherd 13 14 1 69 281 21.62 85 313 18 17.39 2 571 John Fressard 12 13 5 106 247 30.88 4 11 2 5.50 510 477 Troy Armstrong 9 8 0 65 189 23.63 96 305 13 23.46 3 414 Terry Whitney 12 10 3 14 40 5.71 90 320 21 15.24 3 385 Michael Boyle 11 11 1 35 122 12.20 64.1 294 14 21.00 5 382 Billy Visocchi 12 12 1 63 243 22.09 50 220 9 24.44 378 David Lloyd 13 15 2 25 142 10.92 0 0 0 N/A 7 212 Ron Airey 8 8 2 19 67 11.17 42 183 6 30.50 1 167 Robert Bucksath 9 8 1 22 76 10.86 22 105 4 26.25 3 166 Ben George 3 3 1 7 16 8.00 21 76 4 19.00 3 106 Scott Fairburn 5 5 1 19 47 11.75 16 59 2 29.50 1 87 Josh Larnach 7 8 0 11 30 3.75 0 0 0 N/A 13 85 Trent Hawkett 3 3 0 23 38 12.67 0 0 0 N/A 111 78 Mitchell Regan 1 1 0 10 10 10.00 6 31 1 31.00 25 BLIGH PARK CRICKET CLUB 2nd GRADE ALL TIME RECORDS Year Pointscore Batting Average Bowling Average Most Wickets 93/94 94/95 95/96 96/97 97/98 98/99 Ian Toomsalu 629 Tim Twomey 44 Scott Fairburn 15.03 Scott Fairburn 34 99/00 00/01 01/02 02/03 Luke Roberts 724 Daniel Apps 35.5 Ron Airey 19.4 Luke Roberts 25 03/04 Daniel Apps 629 John Fressard 30.88 Terry Whitney 15.24 Terry Whitney 21 Most Catches Batting Aggregate Highest Score Position 93/94 94/95 95/96 96/97 97/98 98/99 Tim Twomey 484 Tim Twomey 166 5th 99/00 00/01 01/02 02/03 John Fressard 22 Daniel Apps 462 Daniel Apps 116 5th 03/04 John Fressard 15 Daniel Apps 404 John Fressard 106 Premiers 3rd Grade Honour List Point Score: Joel Taylor - 759 Batting Average: Stu Taylor – 27.00 Batting Aggregate: John Bremner - 384 Bowling Average: Joel Taylor – 18.93 Bowling Aggregate: Joel Taylor - 28 Most Catches (fielding): Joel Taylor - 12 Most Keeping Dismissals: John Bremner - 13 Milestones 100’s: John Bremner – 121 Stu Taylor - 106 5 wickets: Joel Taylor – 6/57 Abhinav Mathur – 5/34 Pete Gerisch – 5/15 Hat tricks: Nil 3rd Grade - Season in Review This was definitely a season that never was.
