Winter is upon us and so to the end of another successful 2008/09 season. This season has given us even more reason to celebrate by taking out the Club Championship this season. This is the second time the club has achieved this in its 12 years of history. This is a great credit to the club and all of its members. And once again being one of the largest clubs in the Hawkesbury district. This season the club again fielded 6 junior teams, one in each age division. The 11’s, 13’s and 14’s all made it through to the semi finals, with the 11’s progressing through to the final. Our under 10’s is a non competition age group, although they don’t play finals they too would have no doubt featured in a finals series and hopefully with some proposed changes to this age group next season, they will get their chance to win a title. Our U11’s finished 2nd, U12’s finished 3rd, U13’s finished 4th, U14’s finished 4th and the U16’s finished 5th. This year saw the club field 5 senior teams. 1st grade had a slow start to the season and were unable to recover and finished in 6th place. 6th grade faired slightly better finishing in 5th place. While our 3rd, 4th and 5th grades all made it through to the semi finals. 4th and 5th grade both progressed through to contest their respective final. While 4th grade went down in a close game, 5th grade were counting their lucky stars. After becoming what is believed to be the first team in the district to be beaten in their semi final and then play in a grand final, they made it through when it was discovered Wilberforce had breached the rules by playing an ineligible player. They then went on to beat Schofields in the grand final by taking a first innings win in a hard fought and low scoring game by 11 runs. On behalf of the club I would personally like to thank all of you for your time and efforts this season. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the committee for their hard work efforts throughout the season. To all the scorers, managers, parents, guardians, family, friends and especially the players, our sincere thanks for making this season an enjoyable and most triumphant one. The club is extremely proud that you have chosen Bligh Park as your club and we hope to see you all back next season. Kind Regards, David Dray President Bligh Park Cricket Club Inc. No figures may be incorporated from a lower grade. (b) Batting average - a player must have at least the same number of innings as there are opposing teams in that grade and score not less than two hundred and fifty (250) runs in all matches. (c) Bowling average - a player must procure at least twenty (20) wickets in all matches. Where a team has no players eligible for an award, the bowler with the most wickets or batsman with the most runs becomes eligible for the award. Statistics While we Endeavour to ensure the accuracy of the information in this year book, the quality of what goes into your scorebooks reflects the quality of your season's final statistics. As often has it, scores are recorded by the opposition or players who are not necessarily skilled scorers, so it's important that you regularly review that your statistics are correct and complete throughout the season. Life and 10 Year Members Life Membership is the highest form of personal recognition for any member (player, coach, committee or other volunteer) who has contributed significantly to Bligh Park Cricket Club above normal means. To be eligible for nomination for Life Membership of the Club a person must have demonstrated that he or she has actively assisted the Club in achieving its objectives over a period of time prior to his or her nomination for Life Membership. 10 Year Members are those who have contributed or played 10 consecutive season for either solely for Bligh Park Cricket Club or a combination of 10 consecutive years of only Bligh Park Cricket Club and Representative Cricket. While not linked to Life Membership, this is recognition from the club on player loyalty and the value we see within it. The season opener was a good indication of what was to follow….. The Park were off to a flyer against the under strength Schofields, winning the toss and electing to bat in hope of posting a challenging score. The mammoth total posted by The Park was a hard earned 14 runs off just 8 overs. This inevitably sent moral to an all time high, which lead to the team preventing Schofields snatching an early outright victory………..thanks to a wash-out the week after. The half way point of the season saw a strong mutiny against Al Williams with an appalling record of ZERO wins as captain. This saw the captaincy passed between Mick and Reg. There were some individual highlights, though they were few and far between. • Regies 112 against Glossodia with a handy 60* contributed by Allan Williams. • Michael’s lionhearted Vanderiffic performance against the challenging Maroota, with a 5 wicket haul and a hard earned 50. This effort saw him notch up his first win as skipper. • Geoff Drury’s 19 wickets saw him once again have a stellar season claiming the most wickets for first grade. • Chris Brennan's 3 ducks in a row should be duly noted as the determination was definitely there. The match highlight of the season was the much anticipated cellar dweller clash against Maroota. This saw Maroota put on 264 in forty overs after the Parkies bowled all available 11 bowlers (including Johno left and right arm). In reply Parkies fell to 6 for 90, and then Troy Armstrong strode to the crease. Troy went on to blister 96 runs, combining with the tail to bring it home. Needing five to win off the last ball, a juicy leg side, chest high full bunger was delivered and was dispatched accordingly by legs eleven Al Williams to bring home the bacon in a HIGH pressure situation.
