To all players, coaches, managers, family members and friends.

Winter is upon us and so to the end of another successful 2008/09 season. This season has given us even more reason to celebrate by taking out the Club Championship this season. This is the second time the club has achieved this in its 12 years of history. This is a great credit to the club and all of its members. And once again being one of the largest clubs in the Hawkesbury district.

This season the club again fielded 6 junior teams, one in each age division. The 11’s, 13’s and 14’s all made it through to the semi finals, with the 11’s progressing through to the final. Our under 10’s is a non competition age group, although they don’t play finals they too would have no doubt featured in a finals series and hopefully with some proposed changes to this age group next season, they will get their chance to win a title. Our U11’s finished 2nd, U12’s finished 3rd, U13’s finished 4th, U14’s finished 4th and the U16’s finished 5th.

This year saw the club field 5 senior teams. 1st grade had a slow start to the season and were unable to recover and finished in 6th place. 6th grade faired slightly better finishing in 5th place. While our 3rd, 4th and 5th grades all made it through to the semi finals. 4th and 5th grade both progressed through to contest their respective final. While 4th grade went down in a close game, 5th grade were counting their lucky stars. After becoming what is believed to be the first team in the district to be beaten in their semi final and then play in a grand final, they made it through when it was discovered Wilberforce had breached the rules by playing an ineligible player. They then went on to beat Schofields in the grand final by taking a first innings win in a hard fought and low scoring game by 11 runs.

On behalf of the club I would personally like to thank all of you for your time and efforts this season. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the committee for their hard work efforts throughout the season. To all the scorers, managers, parents, guardians, family, friends and especially the players, our sincere thanks for making this season an enjoyable and most triumphant one. The club is extremely proud that you have chosen Bligh Park as your club and we hope to see you all back next season.

Kind Regards,

David Dray President Bligh Park Cricket Club Inc.

Award Criteria Bligh Park Cricket Club awards players for averages and point score in accordance with the Hawkesbury District Cricket Association (HDCA) rules, which is: (a) Any player who plays in a higher grade for his/her club, will be eligible to incorporate those averages in the grade where he/she is graded at the conclusion of the competition. No figures may be incorporated from a lower grade. (b) average - a player must have at least the same number of innings as there are opposing teams in that grade and score not less than two hundred and fifty (250) runs in all matches. (c) average - a player must procure at least twenty (20) in all matches.

Where a team has no players eligible for an award, the bowler with the most wickets or batsman with the most runs becomes eligible for the award. Statistics While we Endeavour to ensure the accuracy of the information in this year book, the quality of what goes into your scorebooks reflects the quality of your season's final statistics. As often has it, scores are recorded by the opposition or players who are not necessarily skilled scorers, so it's important that you regularly review that your statistics are correct and complete throughout the season. Life and 10 Year Members Life Membership is the highest form of personal recognition for any member (player, coach, committee or other volunteer) who has contributed significantly to Bligh Park Cricket Club above normal means. To be eligible for nomination for Life Membership of the Club a person must have demonstrated that he or she has actively assisted the Club in achieving its objectives a period of time prior to his or her nomination for Life Membership. 10 Year Members are those who have contributed or played 10 consecutive season for either solely for Bligh Park Cricket Club or a combination of 10 consecutive years of only Bligh Park Cricket Club and Representative Cricket. While not linked to Life Membership, this is recognition from the club on player loyalty and the value we see within it. Club Awards

1st GRADE – SEASON 2008-09 TEAM REPORT

Proudly Sponsored by -

This year was a disappointing season for first grade with a final position of sixth in the competition. The season opener was a good indication of what was to follow….. The Park were off to a flyer against the under strength Schofields, winning the toss and electing to bat in hope of posting a challenging score. The mammoth total posted by The Park was a hard earned 14 runs off just 8 overs. This inevitably sent moral to an all time high, which lead to the team preventing Schofields snatching an early outright victory………..thanks to a wash-out the week after.

The half way point of the season saw a strong mutiny against Al Williams with an appalling record of ZERO wins as captain. This saw the captaincy passed between Mick and Reg.

There were some individual highlights, though they were few and far between. • Regies 112 against Glossodia with a handy 60* contributed by Allan Williams. • Michael’s lionhearted Vanderiffic performance against the challenging Maroota, with a 5 wicket haul and a hard earned 50. This effort saw him notch up his first win as skipper. • Geoff Drury’s 19 wickets saw him once again have a stellar season claiming the most wickets for first grade. • Chris Brennan's 3 ducks in a row should be duly noted as the determination was definitely there.

The match highlight of the season was the much anticipated cellar dweller clash against Maroota. This saw Maroota put on 264 in forty overs after the Parkies bowled all available 11 bowlers (including Johno left and right arm). In reply Parkies fell to 6 for 90, and then Troy Armstrong strode to the crease. Troy went on to blister 96 runs, combining with the tail to bring it home. Needing five to win off the last ball, a juicy leg side, chest high full bunger was delivered and was dispatched accordingly by legs eleven Al Williams to bring home the bacon in a HIGH pressure situation.

Special mention to Chris Lawrence who only got runs when it didn’t matter, therefore taking out the batting average. Younger brother Patty should not be forgotten either. As the youngest member, he was the only 1st grade player to be arrested and put in lock up during the season. Well Done Pat!

A Big thanks to Boyley and Johno for the year. And not to forget Smelcher behind the stumps who was that devoted he travelled all the way from Pittamatta to play.

Also, many thanks to all juniors and seniors for coming up to assist when needed and finally, thanks to Mark for preparing the Uni deck every week - it is much appreciated by all.

3rd GRADE – SEASON 2008-09 TEAM REPORT

Well, we had a good recovery at the end of our season in third grade. After a slow start to the year with players missing and different ones filling in we struggled for early form to have one win from our first eight games! But there were always good signs for us with some great early form from Joel Tynan, Dave Klineberg, Ben Mitchell and John Bremner all with the bat, and Jeremy Wood and Dave Adam with the ball.

Then the second half of the season....

It was a good finish to the year with 4 from 5 games going our way. We had some good momentum building and the team was gelling well. A win against Schofields in the last round locked us into a second place finish for the season, which was a great effort by the guys who never gave up and were rewarded with a semi final shot !

And the semi-final....

The semi-final was a tough game. After losing the toss, Schofields batted for the whole day and into the next morning. We had a few missed chances in the field but not a bad effort. And mention to our bowlers who toiled hard the whole day - Jeremy Wood, Adrian Daley, Adam Armstrong, Dave Adam and Ben Mitchell.

Trying to chase the score of 175 on Turnbull Oval (which was like playing in snow, because the outfield was so slow!) was always going to be hard and unfortunately despite the best efforts of all, we fell short. Overall a great year all the guys should be proud of themselves. A great season and looking forward to a great 09/10 !

Cheers, Bilso

4th GRADE – SEASON 2008-09 TEAM REPORT

Proudly Sponsored by -

I could almost use last years report again this year. We had a great year. Made the Grand Final, only to bat badly in the first innings, only to come back and nearly get the game in the second innings – only to run out of time.

Throughout a disappointing 2 days of the Grand Final, we kept our sense of humour, kept laughing and enjoying ourselves. That is the most important thing.

We welcomed some new players this year, with Gavin HACKENBERG joining us; Hayden COLE from the 16’s playing a number of games with us; and then we welcomed back a few old faces from previous years in Wayne JOHNSON, Jeff RYAN and Danny (The Chicken hawk) FLOOD.

The father and son connection still runs strongly within the team and in the case of Dave RYAN (father), Jeff RYAN (Son 1), Damien WILLIAMS (Son-in-law) and Brad RYAN (gun sub-fielder) we almost have the whole family. It is pleasing for me to see the development in the sons since we began. Luke ROGAN scored some runs and batted well at times. Jarred COULL’S bowling towards the end of the season was unplayable, with only the best batsman in the grade being good enough to get an edge. He has developed into a great bowler and I saw his speed increase through the year. Jarred well deserved his place at the Emerging Blues trials.

Congratulations to Gavin CLEVERLY who scored his first 100 in the first game of the season.

Gavin HACKENBERG played a wonderful innings of 94 in the last round, and was robbed of a century by fatigue and injury. Gav also gave our already potent bowling attack another dimension. He showed himself to be a class bowler – that should be a classy cricketer all round.

Dave RYAN continued to amaze all with his agility as a keeper and took some amazing catches. Dave is a big man with the wing span of a 747, which allows the slips to stand wide. Although occasionally you can’t get wide enough….. In a game late in the season, I was standing at 3rd slip when he took one of his trade mark low diving catches and rolled over my foot! As a result I lost a toe nail. I usually lose a big toe nail during the cricket season, but generally it is from being hit by the ball whilst batting, not being hit by a keeper whilst fielding!

Damien WILLIAMS again gave 120% in everything he did. Damo played the last round, semi-final and grand final with a fractured wrist, although you would never know it. He still threw himself around in the field like a madman. His fielding is worth around 30 runs for us.

Andrew COULL again toyed with batsmen with his swing bowling and at times was extremely unlucky not to end up with big bags of wickets. Thanks Andrew for being a sounding board for me and providing good advice.

Shane STEPHENSON thrived on another year of cricket. I don’t know if I have ever met anyone that is more passionate about playing than Shaneo. My life is in danger every time I take the ball from him whilst we are bowling. I know Shane was a little disappointed in his batting this year after a wonderful year last year, but I know he’ll be back bigger and better next year.

In a year of great fun, friendship and a lot of laughs, my favourite memory from the season was a game at the R.A.A.F. base. Ayden STEVENS from the 14’s played a few games for us and played in this game. Ayden is rather short for his age, but is not a bad left arm swing bowler. So I have him a bowl, and he picked up a wicket in his first over. The next R.A.A.F. batsman was a 6 feet 4 inch, fit strong soldier who took to us early in the year and scored 146 off what seemed to be 3 or 4 overs. He came out vowing to smash the little kid out of the ground. Ayden ran up to bowl, ripped in a swinging, dipping Yorker that hit middle and leg whilst the batsman was looking for the ball clearing the long on boundary. Ayden at some near 5 feet even, ran down the wicket both fists pumping, and looked the batsman in the eye (or somewhere up there), and screamed “Yeeeesssss”. A great send off for a batsman by a young bowler that grew to well over 6’4” that day. His hat trick ball was a hum dinger as well, and he went awfully close to taking that hat trick.

Last but not least, thank you to my wife Kim who scores for us every week, and organises me and the paperwork I am suppose to do throughout the year.

Thanks boys for another great season, I hope we are back together next year.

5th GRADE – SEASON 2008-09 TEAM REPORT

Proudly Sponsored by -

When I was asked to captain the 5th grade side, I was concerned with the broken down bunch of blokes that were offered as team mates. Looking down the list I wondered if we were mistakenly graded 5th, when in fact should have all been benched. I shouldn't have been concerned though, because this rag tag bunch had enough drive and enthusiasm left in them to come together and take out not only the Minor Premiership, but also deliver a memorable Grand Final win that will go down as one of the best come backs seen! On day one of the final we were all out for 103 and our heads were down. But strength in numbers and a commitment to do whatever it takes produced a nail biting end to the first innings, where we managed to bowl Schofields out for 92. After that, we just had to get out there and bat it out. We managed to take the first innings win, which showed the fight to play the in the final was well worth it.

Early on in the season we had some great wins. Our opening batsmen gave us good starts and our bowlers kept pounding the pitch. Fielders kept the numbers low and we consistently kept this form throughout the year. All the boys deserve praise and thanks for good laughs and some great cricket. Hopefully this will be backed up next year.

There are many people that deserve our thanks, but I would like to take the time to mention the following:

First and foremost, Dave Dray, for without his skilled legal advice and free representation at the judiciary, we never would have had the opportunity to play and win our final! Mitch Dray, who was solid each week, finally uttered a few words on the field in our final match. We all owe Steve Winters for taking on the role as team physio, without him, half of the boys may not have made the final two days play. Dave Flood was solid each week and was humble enough to learn the ropes from some talented boys. He evolved from a pie chucker, to a bowler to be reckoned with. The world is at his feet... Steve Muller turned in his best each week and his consistent batting put him in contention for Batting Average. (Sorry mate, maybe next year?) Paul Wright, the old fella delivered. Reliable fielding was supported by a mouth that never stopped. Jason Sweetman delivered some tight bowling and certainly stabilised the batting order. Mark Sweeny. 5th Grades very own Cordial Man. Fielded well in close and kept runs low on many occasions. Young Chris Smith improved every game and came out in the final to deliver a well earned Man of The Match performance. The Bradman Medal was well deserved. Dave Lloyd, we owe him a lot, especially since he was kind enough to bring his son Rowan to the match each week. When Dave ran off the field to go shopping for motor oil or shampoo mid innings, he always allowed us to use Rowan in the field. Of course we must thank Rowan also, for fielding better than his dad ever did! Glen Corcoran, our lean mean bowling machine. Every week he delivered more than we thought he could! He is currently looking for an endorsement deal from the likes of Elastoplast or Johnson & Johnson so he can pull together and back up next year!

To Jarred Coull and the young boys that filled in and helped get a full team on the paddock - our ability to play in the final is partly due to your willingness to have a go with the old boys. Thanks again. Dave Wassall was a constant support both on and off the field. Filling in and scoring were invaluable to the team.

Finally, special thanks need to go to Mr & Mrs David and Di Flood, for producing a true sportsman in their son. One out of two ain’t bad! And to every man in our team, who finally helped Dave Flood fulfil his 37 year dream of a Premiership baggy cap, I know he will be eternally grateful!

6th GRADE – SEASON 2008-09 TEAM REPORT

Proudly Sponsored by -

It is hard to believe that another season is over and we are at the awards night again. It still feels that it was just last week that we were here!

Well, this year I was given the job of looking after the mighty 6th grade team. We did not set the house on fire with our results but we did have a year full of fun and drama. We all came thru it and are here celebrating the year that was.

Our team was made up of last years 7th grade and a few extras thrown in, myself being one of those. I felt that the team was reasonably balanced but we just did not have a strike bowler who could smash other teams and take wickets when we needed them. We were a true 6th grade team, not like some of the other teams we came across this year. About 3 teams could have found themselves in 5th or 4th grade quite easily and the results they got throughout the year showed that.

For me the whole makeup of the team and how we played the game was what made the year so enjoyable. Everyone made my job as captain easy and I hope they all enjoyed their year as much as I did. This enjoyment of the game and how we played made me want to turn up each week and the results that I got this year showed that.

For our batting this year it was the pommy import who had the most consistent year. We just need to get him to move up the order a bit so he has a chance of getting out. All those not outs he got……….well what can I say!

With bowling I felt that it was Steve Clark who was the most consistent with the ball for us. However, Steve was not alone as we had a great number of bowlers and they all took wickets for us when needed.

I thank all the team for their efforts and everyone who played in 6th grade this year. You made it a great team to play in and I hope that you all come back next season and we go around again.
