Unlike ocean-going ships, we generally do not use heavy fuel oil; instead, our vessels run on the same low-sulphur diesel as cars or lorries. And even here, fuel consumption is low, as we only use small ships with approximately 200 passengers on board. As demonstrated by a recent study conducted by the transport association Pro-Rail Alliance, we are even more sustainable than trains when it comes to CO2 emissions. Nonetheless, we are still striving to reduce fuel consumption further and incorporate alternative propulsion systems within our fleet. Our new E-Motion vessel, which will embark on its maiden voyage in 2022, is leading the way (turn to pages 98–101 to find out more). In addition, we are pursuing sustainability targets in areas such as refuse, waste water and tourism. Our specific measures are outlined below. HOW WE ARE GOING GREEN Reduced emissions Responsible tourism • We only use low-sulphur diesel • Walking tours, cycling tours, excursions • All the vessels in our fleet are fitted with on electric buses and similar eco-friendly an onshore power supply. This means that alternatives our ships use onshore electricity wherever • The ingredients used in the ship’s kitchen possible whilst moored are often bought at local markets • Our long-term goal is to install alternative propulsion systems on our ships Waste avoidance and correct disposal Waste water treatment • Bioplastic straws and bamboo cocktail sticks • We only use washable towels, with no un- • Waste water is treated using certified necessary washing systems, thus protecting rivers from • Refillable soap dispensers contamination • Water bottles that can be refilled at • The resulting sewage sludge is disposed of designated dispensers.

Althanstr. 14, A-1090 Vienna, Austria During a long-terrn study (1987-1996) near Vienna (Austria), individual Danube crested newts (Trititrus dobrogicus) and cornmon spadefoot toads (Pelobatesfuscus) were registered by photographs of highly variable Skin patterns, and the implantation of Passive lntegrated Transponders (PIT tags). To test for potential detrirnental efficts of the electronic tags, we cornpared within-year (for P. fiiscus) and between-year (for T. dobrogiczts) recapture rates and body condition index (CI) of individuals rnarked with the two altcrnative techniques. No significant negative effects of PIT tags on CI and recapture rate could be dernonstrated for either spccies. There was a decrease in body condition and recapture rates in the study years 1995 and 1996, but can be attributed to population trends rather than to the different rnarking rnethods. For recaptured T ~iobrogicusa 10.5% loss of PIT tags was observed. Since its first appearance in 1989, the Guidebook has been revised frequently to reflect changes occurring at the IAEA, within the United States Support Program to IAEA Safeguards (USSP), and in Vienna. The 2018 Edition reflects these changes at the time of publication. Nevertheless, IAEA salaries, allowances, and other benefits change, as do telephone numbers, addresses, and websites.
