Introduction V roce 2015 bylo Radou genetických zdrojů odsouhlaseno rozšíření kolekcí genetických zdrojů Národního programu genetických zdrojů Rostlin o rody Hemerocallis (denivka) a Paeonia (pivoňka). Kromě výběru rostlin, vhodných pro zařazení do Národního programu, jsme začali postupně ve spolupráci se studenty Katedry zahradnictví FAPPZ České zemědělské univerzity v Praze připravovat klasifikátory pro tyto rody. Klasifikátor měl umožnit popis jak botanických znaků planých druhů, protože plané druhy pivoněk a denivek jsou rostliny LAKR a je tedy vhodné je zařadit do Národního programu, tak i pokročilých zahradních okrasných odrůd. Současně se ukázalo, že námi používaný klasifikátor pro kosatce je koncipovaný především pro

There are several small, isolated species clusters at the basal nodes of the tree that are all restricted to the winter-rainfall zone of southern Africa (the Greater Cape floral kingdom) and a few, highly derived, large species groups that have radiated extensively within the winter-rainfall zone. Mapping of floral traits shows that an Iris-type flower is ancestral in Moraea.

WILSON Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden, 1500 North College Avenue, Claremont, California 91711-3157, USA (carol. wilson@ cgu. edu) ABSTRACT Subgeneric groups have been circumscribed in Iris based on a small number of morphological characters. Recent DNA sequence data has indicated that several of the subgenera, sections, and series that have previously been delineated are paraphyletic or polyphyletic. The evolution of characters that have traditionally been used to distinguish sub generic and sectional groups within Iris was investigated by mapping these characters on a phylogenetic tree based on matK sequence data. Results indicate that rhizomes are pleisomorphic for the genus and that three bulb types have arisen independently. My analysis shows that sepal beards, sepal crests, and seed arils show extensive homoplasy. Most of the homoplasy seen is associated with the circumscription of polyphyletic subgeneric groups such as the beardless subgenus Limniris. Some additional homoplasy is due to diversity within supported clades or the historical use of a single character in circumscribing more than one subgeneric group.

    Pacific Iris Almanac of the Society for Pacific Coast Native Iris www.pacificcoastiris.org Volume 42 No 2 Spring 2014 Cal-Sibe siblings 'Golden Waves', top, and 'Lyric Laughter', bottom, are sibling Cal-Sibes from the same cross, between a yellow-flowered seedling of I. forrestii and I. innominata. Jean Witt noted that the Siberian parent was a yellow 40 chromosome Siberian seedling, closer in form and color to I. forrestii than to I. wilsonii. The SIGNA Checklist states that the Siberian parent was I. wilsonii. Jean reviewed her notes, and said this is incorrect, it was a forrestii seedling. Many among these have potential for use in pharmaceutical and ornamental plant industries. However, owing to lack of proper research many among these plants are yet to be evaluated for commercial propagation. Leaves, bulbs and flowers among many plant parts are being evaluated locally as salads, vegetables, products of pharmaceutical importance and flowers for use in cut flower and ornamental plant industries. The study aimed to find economically important plant geophytes that grow in the wild of the South Eastern Anatolian climatic zones. To meet the objective, a field survey of bulbous geophytes of South Eastern and Eastern Anatolia was carried out during April-July periods of 2011 and 2012 years. The survey results indicated distribution of bulb geophytes at altitudes of 640 to 2651m. The geophytes belonging to the genus Allium, Biarum, Bellevalia, Crocus, Eranthis, Fritillaria, Gladiolus, Hyacinthus, Iris, Ixillirion, Muscari, Narcissus, Ornithogalum, Sternbergia, Scilla, Tulipa, Ophyrs and Orchis were collected. After initial screening, it was decided to culture 40 species; the bulbs of these species were planted in the collection gardens of the Department of Field Crops, Dicle University, Diyarbakir for determination of several parameters including, flowering date, duration of flowering time and other agronomical characteristics important for bulbous species.

    TURKISH SILK ROAD TRIP REPORT 2019 1 Day 1 6 May To Goreme We all arrived from various places to Cappadocia. Day 2 7 May Cappadocia I A fine clear morning revealed the remarkable convoluted landscape of Cappadocia – a blend of towers and smooth-eroded hills, some pink some cream. We met with our guide Gaye and set off for a quieter part of this popular region. Our first stop was near a small church and above this the path led to a fine lookout across the landscape including some amazing chimneys capped with dark hats of denser rock. Indeed, it is the rapid erosion of the various layers of compacted ash that have created this landscape, a legacy of the regions intensely volcanic past. There many Alpine Swifts sweeping overhead and a few interesting flowers with tufts of bluish Trigonella coerulescens, Silene conoidea, Euphorbia sp and big patches of Eruca sativa that were a magnet for the many Painted Ladies on the wing. We moved on to another site with an old monastery that still retained some very old frescoes and painted ceilings as well as a very old Seljuk mosque. Here there was plentiful Hypercoum pseudograndiflorum along the paths. Uta exchanged tips on bean cultivation with a local farmer who spoke a smattering of German before we left. Lunch was in a cherry orchard, thronging with butterflies as well as by chance, being next to a nesting Long-eared Owl which peered down at us the whole time we were there. Then it was onto see a special plant, crossing the undulating steppes and wheat fields to an innocuous-looking hill.

    Iris Sibirica and others Iris Albicans Known as Cemetery Iris as is planted on Muslim cemeteries. Two different species use this name; the commoner is just a white form of Iris germanica, widespread in the Mediterranean. This is widely available in the horticultural trade under the name of albicans, but it is not true to name. True Iris albicans which we are offering here occurs only in Arabia and Yemen. It is some 60cm tall, with greyish leaves and one to three, strongly and sweetly scented, 9cm flowers. The petals are pure, bone- white. The bracts are pale green. (The commoner interloper is found across the Mediterranean basin and is not entitled to the name, which continues in use however. The wrongly named albicans, has brown, papery bracts, and off-white flowers). Our stock was first found near Sana’a, Yemen and is thriving here, outside, in a sunny, raised bed. Iris Sibirica and others Iris chrysographes Black Form Clumps of narrow, iris-like foliage. Tall sprays of darkest violet to almost black velvety flowers, Jun-Sept. Ht 40cm. Moist, well drained soil. Part shade. Deepest Purple which is virtually indistinguishable from black. Moist soil. Ht. 50cm Iris chrysographes Dykes (William Rickatson Dykes, 1911, China); Section Limniris, Series Sibericae; 14-18" (35-45 cm), B7D; Flowers dark reddish violet with gold streaks in the signal area giving it its name (golden writing); Collected by E. Türlere ait bilgiler Türkiye florası ve Türkiye Bitkileri Kırmızı Kitabı’na göre incelenmiştir. Bulgular: İç Anadolu Bölgesi ile Doğu Anadolu Bölgesi arasında geçiş teşkil eden Tohma Çayı Vadisi ve çevresinde kurulu olan Darende İlçesi, bozkır bitki örtüsüyle kaplıdır. Şiddetli bir kuraklığın hüküm sürdüğü bölgede erozyon üst seviyededir ve bunun sonucunda kuraklığa dayanıklı bitkiler yaygın olarak bulunmaktadır. Aşırı otlatma ciddi habitat tahribatına neden olmakta ve bu alanlardaki bitkilerin populasyonlarını etkilemektedir. İnsan kullanımından kaynaklanan etkenlerin habitat bozulmalarını artırdığı görülmüştür. Örneğin Akçatoprak mevkiinde ağaçlandırma çalışmaları, Hekimhan yolu üzerinde çöp tesisi ve ağaçlandırma yapılması aynı alandaki birçok türün yaşamını tehlikeye atmaktadır. Önlem alınmadığı takdirde birçok türün nesli tehlike altına girebilir. Centaurea brevifimbriata 5 noktada, Fumana trisperma 3 noktada, Astragalus scabrifolius 2 noktada, Gypsophila leucochlaena, Reseda tomentosa 2 noktada, Acanthophyllum oppositiflorum, Klasea bornmuelleri ve Aethionema lepidioides 1 noktada bulunur. Bu türlerin birey sayıları 100-5000 arasında değişmektedir. Diğer türler daha geniş yayılışlıdır. Bu türlerden bazıları ilk kez fotoğraflanmıştır.

KENTON J SETH Backpacking for around the Caucasus Having left a job in public horticulture, and taking advantage of my freedom from the high needs of plants in the growing season, feeling very much like a tired fatherflowers leaving his ten children at a baby-sitter before a holiday, I sought to see some of those very plants in their native places. I bought a one-way ticket in spring 2010 to Tbilisi, the capital of the Republic of Georgia. This was the starting point of a summer's-worth of travel including Georgia, Armenia, and Turkey. I knew I would get to see fine plants easily enough, but didn't want to set myself up for disappointment if I did not visit my Holy Grail plants like local Tulipa, Onco Iris, and the endemic Fritillaria orientalis. 119119 Sparing the reader interesting yet horribly exhaustive details, about the serious logistics and hysterical in-betweens, I do want to note that the plants, places, and people I saw, happened as a mix of plan and accident. I traveled, at times alone, at times with foreign friends old and new, and once with the fortuitous companionship of a troop of international horticulturists, including the late great Jim Archibald, for whom I have much to thank.
