The Six to Celebrate program annually identifies six historic New York City neighborhoods that merit preservation as priorities for HDC’s advocacy and consultation over a yearlong period. The six, chosen from applications submitted by community organizations, are selected on the basis of the architectural and historic merit of the area, the level of threat to the neighborhood, the strength and willingness of the local advocates, and the potential for HDC’s preservation support to be meaningful. HDC works with these neighborhood partners to set and reach preservation goals through strategic planning, advocacy, outreach, programs and publicity. The core belief of the Historic Districts Council is that preservation and enhancement of New York City’s historic resources—its neighborhoods, buildings, parks and public spaces— are central to the continued success of the city.     Ann Peterson, General Manager, The New Yorker Hotel A hospitality veteran and turnaround expert who holds more than three decades of experience in the industry, Ann Peterson joined Wyndham New Yorker Hotel in December 2012. In her role as President and General Manager, Peterson oversees day-to-day operations, including management of the hotel’s executive team and more than 500 hotel employees, as well as the rollout of a multi-million dollar renovation program that is well underway. Renovations will modernize the 912-room property including the hotel’s exterior, the addition of new guestrooms, revamped ballroom facilities and meeting space, and upgraded food and beverage outlets. Peterson, along with new Director of Sales and Marketing John Yazbeck, is charged with carrying out a new vision for the future of the storied Midtown Manhattan property. Prior to her current role at Wyndham New Yorker Hotel, Peterson served as Area General Manager for Crescent Hotels and Resorts in Minnesota. She also spent two years as General Manager for the Omni Shoreham Hotel, where she directed the operating, sales and marketing efforts, led the reorganization and redirection of sales and marketing efforts for the hotel within a competitive and expanding market, and collaboratively dealt with union workforce to achieve common goals and objectives. Prior to that, Peterson spent 25 years with the InterContinental Hotel group, most recently as the Regional Vice President of Operations for the East Coast.
