PARK OVERVIEWS

Lake Boondooma Dam

The Award-winning Lake Boondooma Caravan and Recreation Park, located 20 km north of , is a drawcard for anglers, campers, bird-watchers, and water-sports enthusiasts. The dam was purpose-built in 1983 to provide a water supply to the Tarong Power Station. In recent years, under the careful direction of the former Shire Council and now the South Burnett Regional Council, it has been developed into a major regional recreation area where the fishing is excellent and amenities second to none.

Over 200,000 fingerlings are released annually into the dam, with main species being golden perch (yellowbelly), silver perch and Australian bass. Anglers like fishing here because all fishing methods work - from bait fishing for perch and cod in the snags along the rock walls, chasing bass in the main basin with shrimp and worm baits, the use of lures for both edge fishing and over the broad flats, and even deep-fly tactics. Lake Boondooma is considered one of the most consistent inland fishing spots in Queensland.

Fishing Competitions are held at the dam each year.

Accommodation available includes fully self-contained, air-conditioned cabins with lake views, a bunkhouse, powered caravan sites ("Lookout" and "Lakeside Terraces") and water's edge camping sites.

There are excellent amenities, hot showers, and laundry facilities. The kiosk sells basic food items, ice creams, drinks, bait and tackle, and ice. Fuel and oil are available. Boat ramps, camp kitchen, wood and electric BBQ's and playground equipment ensure a fun time for every member of the family.

Yallakool Park on BP Dam Yallakool Caravan Park nestles right on the banks of the Bjelke-Petersen Dam in the middle of natural Australian bushland and surrounded by the vibrant region of the South Burnett including a number of wineries/cellar doors and the townships of Murgon and Goomeri. It has won a prestigious Fraser Coast South Burnett Tourism Award - and it is a winner with the 55,000+ visitors who flock to it all year round as well!

You can enjoy all types of water sports at Bjelke-Petersen Dam and the fishing is renowned. Some of the most popular catches are golden perch (or yellow belly) and Australian bass. Fishing competitions are held throughout the year.

Yallakool Caravan Park has several accommodation options for you to choose from. You can bring your own tent and pitch it in the camping grounds, park your own caravan on a powered or unpowered site, or book one of the self-contained cabins or villas.

The Park is very well equipped and provides an area for camp oven cooking along with a refrigerator, hotplates, oven and microwave. The kiosk sells basic grocery items, milk, drinks, hot food, fishing tackle, ice and bait.

If you have your own equipment, you can also water ski or sail. There is an in-ground swimming pool adjacent to the tennis courts and the dam provides adequate sheltered swimming areas for all the family. The surrounding bushland is accessible to walkers and bird watchers.
