Balance represents a double edge sword. When afraid of falling and unsure of balance we often limit movement patterns and actually become more likely to fall. Tuesdays and Cardiac Rehab Phase III Sue Kennedy Thursdays Fitness Center 12:30-1:30 p.m. Phase III is a cardiac rehab program committed to teaching a lifetime of fitness, educational programs and promote habits to ensure a satisfying, healthy lifestyle. This maintenance program is designed for those who have recently completed Phase II Cardiac Rehab in addition to those with known risk factors, for those with existing heart problems, or for those simply wishing to improve their level of cardiovascular fitness. It is a supervised exercise program whereby individuals learn to self-manage their overall cardiovascular health. “Charades” Marlane Argianas Mondays at 2p.m. Inn Lounge A fun way to “Act It Out!”. As a group we will try to guess who a person is, the titles of movies and books and common everyday phrases. All of this is done without any talking and only using our body to give the messages to others. This is a fun and creative way to spend the morning. While they are different, all of these faiths share the common goal of helping us find meaning in our lives. Often the meaning of religion is illustrated potently and poignantly through its art and music. This course will look at religion through the lens of its art and music.

Consumer Scam Senior Medicare Patrol Friday, June 12 at Auditorium Prevention (SMP) 2:30p.m. The Area Agency on Aging of South Central CT’s Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) program in partnership with Connecticut Legal Service, Inc. will present a free informational session on “Identifying and Preventing Consumer Scams”. Older adults are frequent targets of scams. Consumer scams are a common vehicle used against Medicare beneficiaries to obtain Medicare numbers and Social Security number, both of which can enable scam artists and criminals to commit health care fraud. The presentation will describe common scams, acknowledge the potential for fraud and abuse and give tips on what consumers should watch for to avoid becoming victims. It will also provide resources dedicated to consumer protection and reporting suspected fraud.

Hearing Loss Association 3rd Saturday of the Various Speakers Auditorium of America Month 10:00a.m.

Ideal Baby Dolls from the Friday, July 24 at Carol Cortina Auditorium 1950's 2:30p.m. Founder Madame Beatrice Alexander Behrman grew up surrounded by dolls. She lived above her father’s doll hospital, the first ever in the U.S., and started making her own cloth dolls during World War I to help his business. Medicare Fraud Senior Medicare Patrol June 12 at 2:30p.m. Auditorium The goal of the SMP (Senior Medicare Patrol) program is to empower seniors to protect themselves from becoming victims of identity theft and healthcare fraud through information and education. This group education session is held in order to educate Medicare beneficiaries, family members, caregivers, and others on detecting Medicare fraud, billing errors and abuse in the Medicare and Medicaid.

Run for the Roses Saturday, May 2 at Carol Cortina Springs Lounge Kentucky Derby Fun 2p.m. Join us in the Springs Lounge for an afternoon of horseracing festivities. The race is the first leg of the Triple Crown held at Church Hill Downs in Louisville Kentucky. We will have a mock horse racing game and will pick and name our horses. Participants will also have the opportunity to get hands on and practice using tattooing equipment to create their own works of art. Angela DeLeon, is the originator and coordinator of the People's United Bank Masters Program, nationally recognized for it's leadership in initiating crime prevention and awareness for senior citizens. Ms. Deleon is a member of the Advisory Board of the National Association of TRIADS, Inc. She is the only person in the state of Connecticut certified to teach senior sensitivity, senior crime prevention and interviewing techniques when dealing with the elderly to Connecticut law enforcers. Ms. DeLeon is the recipient of the FBI Director's Community Leadership award for 2010.

BuildOn is a non-profit organization that is working through service and education. At Central High school, BuildOn is engaging more than 50 students to do service within their local community, making connections with residents of Fairfield County. This year, Central has already worked with youth, elderly, city beautification projects, community gardens and even marches to promote non-violence and the importance of education. BuildOn students are dedicating time to gain valuable experiences and life lessons partnering with residents at The Watermark and are looking forward to facilitating a variety of Watermark offerings.

Clare Chapman is an award-winning artist living in Woodbury, Connecticut, whose work has been exhibited regionally and nationally. In addition to being an independent artist, she works as an art therapist with a concentration in therapeutic arts based programming for people with dementia. She received a Bachelors in Fine Art from Marymount College and a Masters in Art Therapy from Albertus Magnus College.

Connie Haworth is our Executive Director. She has more than 20 years of experience in senior housing. She holds a Master of Art’s degree in Counseling Psychology is a Certified Reiki II Practitioner. In her spare time, Connie practices meditation and studies spirituality and holistic health.

Craig Rosenberg has been a Financial Advisor since 1997 and with Merrill Lynch since 2007. He is a graduate of The State University of New York, Oneonta and received his MBA from Hofstra University. His prior experience includes five years of operations management, financial analysis, and strategic planning in the real estate and financial services industries. Craig’s primary role within SR Associates is to engage each client directly to understand their specific personal and financial concerns and objectives. He then helps each client itemize and prioritize their specific short, intermediate and long term financial goals. He frequently consults with a vast network of Merrill Lynch specialists to prepare various client-specific recommendations including investments, credit and lending, insurance and retirement planning services. Dr. David Johnson Rowe is co-pastor of the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church in Fairfield. He is the author of many books, the latest being "My Habitat for Humanity". David was President of Habitat International for many years. He has been teaching at The Watermark for 14 years, as well as providing monthly worship. David is a graduate of Colgate University, with Seminary Degrees from Andover- Newton and Palmer Theological schools, and three years of auditing classes at Harvard Divinity School and its "School of World Religions". He is the founder and President of "Friends of Christ in India", a charitable organization that serves among the poor in South India. David is in his third year of teaching the course, "Literature that Feeds our Faith"....at each session the class discusses books, mostly novels, that wrestle with all the big issues of life. Each class also looks at current items of "Religion in the News".

Jane Russo, has been on a healing journey for over twenty five years, attending numerous personal growth workshops and retreats, twelve step meetings, and training seminars. She is a Certified Graduate of The School of Spirituality two year course in personal/spiritual growth, at the Mercy Center in Madison CT. She is also a Certified Ussui Reiki Master/Teacher, Spiritual Intuitive Channel, Meditation Guide, Magnetic Jewelry Designer, Cellular Memory Healing Guide, and Published Author. She enjoys sharing her gifts in positive ways for your personal growth and spiritual, emotional, and physical well being.

Jon Haight has worked as a wine retailer, consultant, wine journalist, and as a wine educator. For over 20 years he has taught wine appreciation classes at the University of New Haven and is also a Certified Spanish Wine Educator. Jon has traveled to many of the world's greatest wine producing regions and has been making wine for over 25 years. Currently Jon runs weekly educational tastings at a wine shop, does public and private classes throughout Connecticut and conducts wine classes at Jones Winery.

Kayti Meehan began training to be a group exercise instructor in 1999, after the birth of her second son. She received her National Certification from the Aerobics and Fitness Association (AFAA) in March 2001. In the same year she became a certified teacher of the Silver Sneakers Fitness Program. Silver Sneakers is the nation's leading exercise program designed exclusively for older adults. In 2004 she received the AFAA Personal Training Certification enabling her to train individual clients and customize workout programs specifically to their needs and fitness goals. In the past ten years she has completed numerous workshops enabling her to teach a wide variety of group exercise classes to all ages including: mat science (Pilates), aqua aerobics, stretch and flexibility, cardio circuit, resistance training and step aerobics.

Courses FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION Ross Crolius recently retired from the Metropolitan Opera after spending twenty-five years with the company as a full-time chorister. During that time he performed an average of 180 performances each season in operas ranging from Handel to Philip Glass, singing in 6 different languages. He performed in nearly 50 “Live from the Met” telecasts as well as singing in a half dozen opera recordings under the direction of Maestro James Levine. During his career at the Met, Ross was chosen to perform a number of small solo roles in many operas including Rigoletto, IL Trovatore, I Pagliacci, La Boheme and Der Rosenkavalier. Despite the demands of his rigorous Met schedule, Mr. Crolius continued to remain active as a concert soloist and recitalist in the New York area. An avid enthusiast of small vocal ensemble singing, Ross founded and managed a male vocal quartet called Songfellows that was originally formed from the ranks of the Met chorus. Mr. Crolius’ prior musical background includes two seasons performing with the Gregg Smith Singers, a three year enlistment in the Soldiers Chorus of the U.S. Army Field Band, and degrees from the Peabody Conservatory of Music and the Eastman School of Music. Since his retirement from the Met, Ross has shifted his focus to teaching voice and lecturing about opera.

Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP). The goal of the SMP program is to empower seniors to protect themselves from becoming victims of identity theft and healthcare fraud through information and education.

Suri Levow Krieger is the Rabbi of Kerhonkson Synagogue, in upstate New York, and Chavurat Bet Chai in Westchester, NY. She also teaches at University of Bridgeport, Sacred Heart University, and Merkaz Hebrew High School of Bridgeport. Her first love and connection to Judaism has always been through the arts; she was the music and drama director at Solomon Schechter Day School, Bergen County, NJ for some 20 years. In her teaching she weaves a tapestry of story, song, prayer and poetry. Her credentials include a PhD and Rabbinic Ordination. Rabbi Suri’s mission includes building bridges between communities and peoples of different faiths by learning, singing and doing together.

Susan Kennedy joined us as a fitness instructor in the Vitality Fitness Center a few months ago. She resides in Trumbull with her husband and two children. Her certification is with A.C.E. (American Council on Exercise) and with A.F.A.A. (Aerobics and Fitness Association of America) as a personal trainer. She is also certified with Yogafit and Youth Fitness through A.C.E. Her experience and education covers a range of interests, including women’s strength training, BOSU training and has taught and trained clients in various settings for 10 years. She believes in principles and programs that work safely and effectively to promote better health through physical activity. Sue states “I am dedicated to fitness and look forward to helping people not only achieve their personal fitness goals, but live healthier lives. Our health and well being should be a top priority for all of us!” Amen.

Suzanne Palazzi settled in the states from England after traveling the globe as a professional dancer. She took her first Zumba Training workshop with Tanya Beardsley and was truly inspired by her! "I try to bring her energy and attitude to every class I teach!" Suzanne's certifications include AFAA, CPR, and AED. Courses FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION The Southwestern Connecticut Agency on Aging (SWCAA) is a private, not-for-profit corporation, established in 1974. As a designated Area Agency on Aging, according to the Older Americans Act of 1965, as amended, SWCAA is a funding source for federal and state dollars for the elderly in the fourteen town region of southwestern Connecticut. Funding supports services such as nutrition, in-home, legal, health, adult day care/respite, transportation, senior centers and outreach/social support. SWCAA researches and evaluates elderly issues, offers community education related to the needs of the elderly, and serves as an advocate for older individuals. It is a resource for information and referral to services for older adults, such as health insurance, housing, and in-home care. The Agency administers the Statewide Respite Program and the National Family Caregiver Support Program for the region. SWCAA is also an “Access Agency”, under contract with the State of Connecticut, Department of Social Services, to provide care management to clients who receive home and community-based services through the Connecticut Home Care Program for Elders.

Tim Regan M.A. has over 25 years experience in Tai Chi and Qigong, and over 15 years teaching experience. He currently heads the Movement and Respiration Studies course of study at the University of Bridgeport Acupuncture Institute. Also a practitioner and teacher of Chinese therapeutic bodywork, Tim’s instruction emphasizes practical anatomical knowledge and helping students explore their unique experience of these ancient traditions.

Walt Matis works as Program and Volunteer Coordinator for the Fairfield Museum and History Center. He loves to read and he considers himself a student of history. He is a wealth of historic knowledge that he shares with others on a daily basis.

Bernie Bloom, originally from Danbury, Connecticut, he moved to the Watermark over a year ago and has quickly made friends. Bernie considers himself a numbers cruncher and enjoys anything that challenges him mentally. His favorite past time is visiting the casino. He is very excited to share his love of numbers and the casino in his upcoming Watermark University Class.

Dr. Bob Chrien, PhD, youngest of 4 brothers. Studied at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, New York where he earned a BS in Physics and later earned a PhD in Physics at CASE in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Chrien worked at Brookhaven National Laboratory from 1957 to 2011 as a Research Scientist in several fields.

Ed Faulkner, Father of 3 children and long time Bridgeport Resident. Ed coached girls High School Basketball for 30 years and recently received the 2015 CIAC Girls Basketball Tournament Merit Award. Ed is excited to share his passion for sports through a Watermark University class. Josi Russell has been in the costume business for over 50 years. Her Husband, Joey Russell, was an entertainer. She has always been active in the theatre. Josi has five children, fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Lee Paladino, born and raised in new Jersey, Lee and her sister Phil moved to Trumbull 31 years ago to pursue career goals. In her spare time Lee enjoys painting, challenging brain games and learning about senior computer safety. She is looking forward to sharing her knowledge in her first Watermark University offering.

Marian Adolphson, is a longtime Connecticut resident, originally from Easton. Marion is full of energy and eager to help. She is excited to present the highly anticipated Bridge Refresher Course as part of Watermark University.

Marilyn Diamondstone, was a Nurse and Social Worker. She has one daughter and three granddaughters in Westport. Marilyn has two cats named Pumpkin and Precious. Since moving to 3030 Marilyn has been involved in 3 fundraisers raising over 4k to benefit local charities. Marilyn is an Ambassador, the Head Librarian, the Vice President of the Resident Council and Chair person Health & Wellness committee In her spare time she enjoys spending time with friends.

Mary Dana, a native of Wisconsin. Mary joined The Watermark a year ago and quickly got involved attending programs and leading classes about gardening and jewelry making. Mary is excited to be apart of Watermark University.

Mary Scoran, joined the Watermark family in January 2010 with her husband Gene. Mary's passion for knitting began at the tender age of 10 when her mom began to teach her. Mary always liked to be constructive. Knitting hats is her favorite project because it is so easy to do, it is also very simple to teach. Mary was born in Connecticut but raised in the Bronx until the age of 17 when she returned to Connecticut. Mary looks forward to welcoming new members to the knitting group this semester.

Susan Chrien and her husband Robert moved to The Watermark from Long Island. Together they have two sons and two daughters of whom they are so proud. Susan graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art, received a B.S. in Education from Kent State Ohio and a Masters in Art History from Western Reserve. Susan spent many years as an Art teacher working with children from Kindergarten on up. Carol Cortina, Therapeutic Recreation Director for the Springs. In her spare time Carol and enjoys antiquing with her husband, and showcasing her vast doll collection throughout Connecticut. Carol is excited to lead a Watermark University offering in which she gets to share her passion for antique dolls.

Cindy Fallon McGuire has a BS in Recreation and Leisure Education from SCSU (Southern CT State University) and a MS in Biology with a concentration in Nutrition from UB (University of Bridgeport). She is also certified with AFAA (Aerobics and Fitness Association of America) as a group exercise instructor. With over 25 years of experience in the fitness profession teaching a variety of fitness classes as well as managing multisport facilities, her interest in fitness and wellness is to provide practical healthy lifestyle information to all ages. In addition to fitness, she also teaches Anatomy and Physiology at Sacred Heart University and St. Vincent’s College. Cindy lives in Shelton with her husband and son who keeps her fit and young at heart.

Connie Haworth is the Executive Director at The Watermark at 3030 Park and The Watermark at East Hill. She has worked with seniors for more than 25 years. She holds a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Theatre. In her spare time, she reads extensively and enjoys spending time with her family and her dog, Einstein.

Erle Gerangaya, Assistant Director of Nursing, is an avid boater and fisher. In the warm weather he enjoys sailing the shores of Connecticut with his wife and two year old daughter. He says "it's a great way to relax, reconnect with family and take in the beautiful Connecticut Coast Line". Erle is excited to share his passion with the residents of The Watermark.

Gus Seri, Driver, Born and raised in Romania Gus speaks four languages, Romanian, Masadonian, English and Greek. In his spare time he enjoys reading and traveling. He is a loving father of two grown sons.

Ivan Santiago, Driver, born in Puerto Rico and Raised in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Ivan has been passionate about fishing and working on cars ever since he was a little boy. In his spare time he restores old cars. Ivan is excited to facilitate his first Watermark University offering.

Marlane Argianas Community Life, PR Liaison, is most proud of her children: Garett a meteorologist and Stephanie a student. She comes from a close knit family and loves to cook for them on holidays. She enjoys reading especially mysteries and historical books. Marlane has worked at The Watermark for over 14 years and thinks of the residents as her extended family.

Michael Stevens, Chef at The Watermark. Michael is originally from Jamaica and has studied under many international Chefs while establishing his expertise in cooking. Michael has a passion for food which has lead him to cook for over 30 years thus far. When he is not at work, he likes to focus on teaching responsibility to his 2 daughters ages 15 and 17.

Pradheep Shankar, Director of Food Services, responsible for overseeing all the communities dining rooms, culinary operations, bar's lounge and catering activities. He previously worked at the Hartford Marriott Hotel and has held various positions throughout the industry with Hilton, Radisson, Intercontinental Hotels, Water's Edge Resort and Spa and Scandinavian World Cruise Lines. He is a graduate of Kilburn Polytechnic, London and University of Salzburg, Austria.
