EDRS PRICE MF-$0.65 HC-$6.58 DESCRIPTOR'S Adult Education; *Comparative Education; *Educational Administration; *Educational Change; *Educational Development; Educational History; Educational Philosophy; Educational Policy; *Educational Practice; Educational Programs; Elementary Education; Government Role; Higher Education; Preschool Education; Secondary Education; Vocational Education IDENTIFIERS *Romania ABSTRACT This second study of Romanian education reports important reforms that have strengthened the educational system and, moreover, provides a picture of the system at all education levels as of the 1969-70 academic year. Since Communist acquisition of power late in 1947, three major educational reforms have reflected a progressive nationalistic educational trend. The first, in 1947, aligned Romania's Western-oriented educational system with that of the Soviet Union; the second, in 1955, called for reorganization of the schools along polytechnical lines. Revealing a bolder posture toward national independence and also reflecting political aspirations and educational objectives of the regime, the third reform in the 1960's was designed to further Romania's long-range plans for industrialization and technical development and fostered change in general education, higher education, teacher education, and the vocational system. Among the achievements of this latter reform were: 1)the revitalization and modernization of higher education, and alignment of Romania's higher education with the modernization process occurring in the west; 2) extension from 8 to 10 years of free and compulsory education; 3) a rise of enrollment at all levels; and, 4) reorganization of vocational education. -
175 De Ani De La Naşterea Savantului Petru Poni, La Iaşi (Celebrating 175 Years Since the Birth of the Scientist Petru Poni in Iaşi)
REVISTA DE POLITICA ŞTIINTEI SI SCIENTOMETRIE – SERIE NOUA Vol. 5, No. 1, Martie 2016, p. 21 - 24 175 de ani de la naşterea savantului Petru Poni, la Iaşi (Celebrating 175 years since the birth of the scientist Petru Poni in Iaşi) MONICA NĂNESCU Complexul Muzeal Naţional „Moldova” Iaşi - Muzeul Ştiinţei şi Tehnicii „Ştefan Procopiu” Paying tribute to the memory of scholar Petru Poni represents for us a duty and an acknowledgement of the remarkable contribution that the prestigious chemist professor from Iasi brought to the development of science and education in Romania. The paper brings to everyone's attention the manifestations dedicated to the celebration of 175 years since the birth of the prestigious science man of Iasi, chemist Petru Poni. The cultural event, organized by „Ştefan Procopiu” Museum of Science and Technique within „Moldova” National Museum Complex of Iasi, in partnership with „Petru Poni” Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry of the Romanian Academy, the Faculty of Chemistry - „Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iasi and the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Protection of the Environment - „Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iasi, enjoyed the participation of a large public, which reunited academicians, researchers, teachers, museographers, as well as pupils attending „Petru Poni” Technological High School, „Petru Poni” Gymnasial School and „Gheorghe Mârzescu” College of Electronics and Telecommunications. The presentation of the life and achievements of a personality, such as Petru Poni, characterizes an evocative process, a civic and historical obligation towards the future generations. The scientific creation of the distinguished chemist professor of Iasi will remain for the Romanian academic space a source of suggestions and challenges for knowledge in general and for the local cultural progress. -

Ealth Legislation in the Romanian Principalities from Organic Regulations H Until 1874
JOURNAL of Humanities, Culture and Social Sciences, Vol. 1, No. 2, 2015 ISSN 2393 – 5960; ISSN – L 2393-5960, pp. 76-85 ealth legislation in the Romanian Principalities from Organic Regulations H until 1874 Elena Steluța Dinu, Ph.D. “Babeș- Bolyai” University of Cluj- Napoca, Romania, [email protected] Abstract From the third decade of the nineteenth century, with the application of the Organic Regulation (1831-1832) in the two Romanian principalities began a process of medicalization of the population. This process was coordinated by the state. From the medical point of view there were many problems to solve. Three of them were, however, priority: the disappearance of major epidemics, lowering morbidity and prolong life expectancy. The achievements materialized in the creation of health - administrative structures both in the counties and the cities, including Craiova. Key words: Organic Regulation, Trusteeship of Civil hospitals, Health Committee, Medical Commission, Superior Medical Council. 1.1 Organic Regulation The Organic Regulation (1831-1832) encodes and regulates for the first time in the Principalities the health and public hygiene service, thus representing the beginning of the health system. At the same time, The Organic Regulation has established the western pattern of the health organisation in the Principalities, the western pattern in general and the French one in particular (Trăuşan-Matu, 2011, p. 28). It was written by the councils of the Divans from the two Principalities, under the presidency of the Russian general consul M. L. Minciaki, for both Wallachia and Moldavia and it was enforced in Wallachia in 1831 under the government of the Russian general and Health legislation in the Romanian Principalities from ……| 77 diplomat Pavel Dimitrievici Kiseleff (1788-1872), the governor of the two Romanian Principalities during 1829-1831. -
The Society of Physical Sciences (1890-1910)
DOI: 10.15503/jecs20152.20.32 Ethics A former Romanian scientific society: The Society of Physical sciences (1890-1910) IAVORENCIUC GEORGE ANDREI Babeü-Bolyai University, Faculty of History Strada Mihail KogĆlniceanu 1, Cluj-Napoca 400084, Romania E-mail address: [email protected] Abstract The Society of Physical sciences (phisycs, chemistry and mineralogy) has been an important Romanian scientiÞ c society since its establishment, in 1890 until the middle of the twentieth century. This paper seeks to provide an analysis of its activity in the Þ rst two decades of existence, a less studied period, namely how its enterprises contributed to the dissemination and spread of the latest scientiÞ c ideas within Romania’s culture. The society was founded at the initiative of some of the most proeminent Romanian scientists of that period and, until the end of the nineteenth century, it expanded its sphere of activity by including sections on mathemathics and natural history. Therefore, its activity, exempliÞ ed by public conferences, presentation of members’ personal scientiÞ c endeavors, intellectual debates or scientiÞ c missions, reß ected the general development of physical sciences in Romania in that epoch. This research is based mostly on a close scrutiny of society’s scientiÞ c journal. Keywords: Romania, science, scientiÞ c society, culture, 1890-1910 Introduction “The society of physical sciences (physics, chemistry, mineralogy)” was constituted in the year 1890, in the broader context of the relative scientiÞ c development of the Romanian Kingdom. Romania was set in a modernization process, that had begun in the middle of the nineteenth century. Consequently, the country was attempting to develop a scientiÞ c life according to the contemporary exigencies. -
Medical Information in the Cultural Weekly Tribuna, 1957 When Ideology Influences the Presentation of Scientific Data
Medical Information in the Cultural Weekly Tribuna, 1957 When Ideology Influences the Presentation of Scientific Data DINU I. DUMITRAªCU, DAN L. DUMITRAªCU Introduction RIBUNA IS one of the most important cultural journals of Transylvania. It was found- Ted in Sibiu in 1884 as a daily journal, issued for almost 20 years, until 1903 (1). Its publication continued with interruptions and changes of the name (Tribuna Poporului) and of its printing location (from Sibiu to Arad) till before World War 1 (2). Nowadays it is issued again in a new series, after several years of discontinuation caused by the post-communist turmoil affecting Romanian society. In 1957 a new series of Tribuna was born, in the socio-cultural context of the so-called revolutionary transformation following the change of the political regime and after the worst Stalinist years of the 5th decade of the 20th century. The editorial office and pub- lisher were located in Cluj, the main cultural center in Transylvania. Medical Topics in Tribuna, 1957 HE NEW series now celebrates 60 years of publication and it indeed reflects the cul- Ttural life of that epoch, not only from Romania, but also from the Iron Curtain countries (sister countries, as they were called) and from other countries. Many articles are also dedicated to pro-communist cultural events and personalities. The journal was printed on poor quality paper, and therefore now the pages are yellowish. The large format pages (of the same size as the nowadays copies) are filled with small letters, allowing the inclusion of much information, distributed on 4 columns per page. -
