The Fox International Fellowship Program offers a fully funded research stay at Yale University for doctoral students from University of Copenhagen during the academic year of 2020-2021

About the call The goal of the Fox International Fellowship Program is to enhance mutual understanding between the peoples of the United States and other countries by promoting international scholarly exchanges and collaborations among the next generation of leaders. To accomplish this goal, the program seeks to identify and nurture those students who are interested in harnessing scholarly knowledge to respond to the world's most pressing challenges.

Fox International Fellows are outstanding students whose academic records and extracurricular activities demonstrate personal leadership qualities and who demonstrate a future potential for leadership in creating a more peaceful world.

The program especially welcomes doctoral students working in the fields of international relations and global affairs, law, environmental policy, public health, social sciences, economics, political science, political theory, business and finance, management, and contemporary history.

The ‘citizen scholar’ ambassadors the program is seeking to fund should be engaged in research with strong policy relevance, have an ability to communicate with wider audiences, and demonstrate a potential for future leadership in or out of academia.

With the aim of identifying these future leaders, Yale has partnered with 19 of the world’s PAGE 2 OF 3 leading universities in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas. There are already more than 500 alumni in the extensive Fox Fellowship network.

Grant opportunities Fox International Fellows at Yale will receive funding for one round-trip coach airfare, housing, health insurance, and a stipend determined by Yale University to cover basic living expenses.

Preference will be given to the students who have never studied at Yale or in the US before. Successful applicants from University of Copenhagen must remain registered for a degree at the University of Copenhagen. At Yale University they will be appointed Visiting Affiliated Research Students in the Division of Special Registration for non-degree study by the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

Eligibility:

Graduate level students pursuing Doctoral or Masters level degrees. The Fox International Fellowship is NOT open to postdoctoral applicants. US citizens are not eligible to apply, unless they have citizenship of another country and have never studied (Undergraduate and Graduate level) in the US.

Selection criteria:

• Personal characteristics. Candidates must demonstrate commitment to serious research and a capacity for leadership and civic engagement.

• Field of focus. Candidates should be engaged in a relevant social science (including political science, sociology, anthropology, economics, psychology and geography) or humanities discipline (including philosophy, history and law). Training in some type of substantive interdisciplinary fields such as business/management, public administration, international relations, environmental policy and public health are especially attractive.

• Language skills. The candidate’s language skills must be sufficient both to succeed in their research project and to engage in the intellectual and social community of the host university. Candidates for the Yale International Fox Fellowships at Yale University must an excellent command of the English language in conversation, reading and writing.

• Research Proposal. Candidates will be given preference for demonstrating excellence in their field of study.

The application form is available at your PhD School. A complete application packet will include the following, all in English:

• A complete “Admissions Application”. • Two letters of reference from relevant faculty members at the University of Copenhagen who can comment on the applicant’s research and studies as well as their commitment to leadership and service in the context of the Fox Fellowship’s overall goals. • Official transcript of relevant degree program. • Recent TOEFL or IELTS scores (mandatory if you are nominated).

Only applications using the form and with complete information will be assessed.

Based on an assessment of all in- coming applications, the University of Copenhagen will nominate candidates to the Yale Fox International Fellowship Committee who will be in charge of the final selection. The final selection will be announced no later than 15 April 2020.
