Place, Pedagogy and Play
Place, Pedagogy and Play Place, Pedagogy and Play connects landscape architecture with education, psychology, public health and planning. Over the course of thirteen chapters it examines how design and research of places can be approached through multiple lenses – of pedagogy and play and how children, as competent social agents, are engaged in the process of designing their own spaces – and brings a global perspective to the debate around child- friendly environments. Despite growing evidence of the benefits of nature for health, wellbeing, play and learning, children are increasingly spending more time indoors. Indeed, new policy ideas and public campaigns suggest how children can become better connected with nature, yet linking outdoor space to pedagogy is largely overlooked in research. By focusing on three themes within these debates, place and play; place and pedagogy; and place and participation, this book explores a variety of angles to show that best practice requires dialogue between research disciplines, designers, educationists and psychologists, and a move beyond seeing the spaces children inhabit as the domain only of childhood professionals. Through illustrated case studies this book presents a wider picture of the state of childhood today, and offers prac- tical solutions and further research avenues that promote a more holistic and internationally focused perspective on place, pedagogy and play for built- environment professionals. Matluba Khan PhD is a Lecturer in Urban Design at Cardiff University. She is an architect and landscape architect from Bangladesh and her doctoral research at the University of Edinburgh focused on co- design, development and evaluation of outdoor learning environments in elementary schools in Bangladesh. -

On the way I was faced with the biggest and trickiest of all Villains: self-doubt. It was only with the assistance of my trusted Allies that I was able to emerge victorious with a completed thesis. That is why I wish to rely my heartfelt thanks to all of my Allies, those who stood by me and reassured me when I did not think I had it in me to complete the challenge. First of all I would like to thank my sister, Sigríður Aðils Magnúsdóttir, who always took the time to talk sense into me whilst also working on her own thesis. It was wonderful to have her as a partner in crime, because even though we were working on our separate essays, just knowing that she was facing the same Threshold Guardians as I was gave me extra strength. This also would not have been possible without my amazing boyfriend, but he truly was my rock throughout this journey and biggest supporter. -

Sanders, Dean of Graduate Studies Date ABSTRACT Genre is an important part of the television industry, as it helps both producers market their texts and consumers better interpret the television they consume. By combining genres, producers can create new stories and more dynamic characters to please audiences. A recent combination that has come into being is fantasy noir. Such examples of this genre are Pushing Daisies, Constantine, and The Dresden Files. These shows take recognizable elements from both genres and meld them together to create a stronger story. While the general population does not support texts such as Pushing Daisies, Constantine, or The Dresden Files, the fans who do have found something that they can be highly dedicated to. -

The Joy of Drinking Games
Thanks for choosing Perfect Pregame! The nights of wondering what to do as you pregame are over – no more defaulting to Kings or Beer Pong just because you can't remember the rules to any other games. Here are clear and concise directions for games using balls, dice, cards, and wits. Many of these games have different variations in rules and terminology, and the versions here are by no means authoritative. Like any drinking game, they are not meant to be taken too seriously. Have a great time, and use these rules as a starting point. We encourage you to innovate and add your own twists! Drink responsibly - remember that half the fun is knowing your limits and remembering what happened during your epic nights! Table of Contents: • Ball Games: 1 • Dice Games: 7 • Card Games: 12 • Other Games: 18 Ball Games Civil War Civil War is a beer pong variant, but it's a faster paced 3v3 format. Every player has their own rack, and shoots as quickly as possible at their choice of the opposing player's cups. How it Works Two teams of three players face off, with every player having an individual rack of equal size (three, four, six, ten – whatever). There are no turns as in traditional beer pong, any player can shoot at any time. The exception is if one of your cups is made, you must drink before you can shoot again, but you can also pass the ball off to another team member while drinking. Rollbacks of any ball are allowed and don't need to be shot behind the back, but it's usually a good idea to respect the middle of the table line, or else things can get violent or messy. -
