Entered according to Act of Congress, in the year 1862, by DICK & FITZGERALD, In the Clerk's Office of the District Court of the United States, for the Southern District of New York. - Entered according to Act of Congress, in the year 1876, BY DICK & FITZGERALD, In the Office of the Librarian of Congress, at Washington, D. C. PREFACE. In all ages of the world, and in all countries, men have in dulged in "so cial drinks." They have al ways possess ed themselves of some popu lar beverage apart from water and those of the breakfast and tea table. Whether it is judicious that mankind should con tinue to indulge in such things, or whether it would be wiser to abstain from all enjoyments of that character, it is not our province to decide. We leave that question to the moral philosopher. We simply contend that a relish for "social drinks" is universal; that those drinks exist in greater variety in the United States than in any other country in the world; and that he, therefore, who proposes to impart to these drink not only the most palatable but the most wholesome characteristics of which they may be made susceptible, is a genuine public benefactor.

Tarling from this book are to be equally divided between The United Kingdom Bartenders' Guild Sickness Benefit Fund and The Cafe Royal Sports Club Fund. Contents COCKTAILS - - - Section One OTHER DRINKS - - Section Two INDEX to names of cocktails whose vast number prevents inclusion of . recipes in this book - - - Section Three GLOSSARY - - - Section Four Coronation Edition 1937 Preface O compile this book of Cocktails has been no easy task since it has entailed minutely examining over four thousand recipes, and to keep the book within reasonable bounds it has been only possible to give a selection of the most suitable cocktails. The majority of recipes are the originals of Members of the United Kingdom Bartenders' Guild, of which I have the honour to be President, and I can assure my readers that if they will follow these recipes carefully they will be able to enjoy many drinks with which they were hitherto unacquainted. Careful observation has shown that at the majority of Cocktail parties there is little variation in the cocktails offered, and each party is apt to have a monotonous repetition of Martini, Bronx, Manhattan, and White Lady Cocktails, all, I grant, very good cocktails indeed, but just as apt to be dull as continuous dinners at which the same soup, fish, meat and sweet are served.

  • Milk__Honey Cocktail Menu 2
At Milk & Honey we have a passion for making the highest quality drinks using the best ingredi- ents, and the finest, often painstaking, methods. Every afternoon, we squeeze oranges, lemons, limes and pineapples by hand. We press our own ginger to make our house ginger beer. We don’t use any juice or extract that we haven’t made ourselves (hence no cranberry juice), because the drinks taste fresher and better that way. We put most of our glassware and all of our mixing glasses in freezers set to -30C to keep drinks cold during the delicate preparation phase. We count the times we shake or stir to ensure the perfect mix without excessive dilution. If you’re in The Red Room, you’ll be served drinks containing jagged wedges of ice. We cut these by hand with an ice pick from a twice- frozen block of ice made from mineral water. Ice like this is denser, colder and clearer, and chills your drink perfectly without diluting it too much. We have also put together a collection of great value wines, champagnes, whiskies, armagnacs and other digestifs. We hunt down rare bottles at auction and we go to Champagne, the South of France, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa to import our own stuff direct at a better price. It takes a few minutes to mix a great drink.
