This report will be used as part of the evidence base in the production of the Council’s Core Strategy. 1.3 This supporting document aims to generate options for the identification of sustainable settlements. At this point the Chairman introduced Brian Austin, Dorset Police Operations Manager and Martina Perry, CSW Co-ordinator. Brian Austin gave a full and detailed talk on a No Excuse programme. The following points were raised: In 2017, 355 people were either killed or seriously hurt due to road traffic accidents in Dorset. Just one fatal road traffic accident affects, directly or indirectly, around 400 people are affected. It costs around 1.4 million pounds for every fatal road traffic accident. In 2016 £36BN pounds was spent on Road Traffic accidents in the UK. It has been proved that the UK has the safest roads in the world. The No Excuses team is made up of Sergeant Mark Farrow, with his six police constables and Sergeant Paul Barber, with his six police constables. The team work together to catch repeat driving offenders. They have a target of 69 known offenders, which 15 are medium risk. The other high risk offenders have been caught and sent to prison. The Police offer educational sessions to business drivers and an awareness course for the general public.
