It is a source of interest for its high country aesthetic and natural value not only from the scientific and professional point of view, but also from the touristic and recreational point of view. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the natural potential of Demanovska Valley, to analyze the development of tourism over the past 10 years, the current state of the cable cars, ski lifts and slopes, as well as accommodation facilities in the valley. Also to point to the growing interest in Demanovska Valley and the growing share of visitors within the district, country and Slovakia. We use the Intensity Index of Tourism Development to assess the attractiveness of Demanovska Valley, but also to point out how the development of tourism impacts the environment, as the monitored area is located in the Low Tatra National Park. The Hron River flows through its axis and drains almost the entire region (except Mýto pod Ďumbierom). Low Tatras are situated in the north of the region (Ďumbier – 2 043 m is the highest mountain of the Brezno district). In the east and south-east, Spišskogemerský Karst (Kľak – 1 409 m) and Stolické vrchy (Kyprov – 1 391 m) touch the region and Veporské vrchy (Fabova hoľa – 1 439 m) in the south. LAGCHJ settlement structure is significantly influenced by the landscape environment, which limited its full-area development. In the territory of the Brezno city live 34.7% inhabitants of the whole district. E-mail: [email protected] Abstract: This paper presents an analysis of trends and causes of changes of selected hydroclimatic variables influencing the runoff regime in the upper Hron River basin (Slovakia). Different methods for identifying trends in data series are evaluated and include: simple mass curve analysis, linear regression, frequency analysis of flood events, use of the Indicators of Hydrological Alteration software, and the Mann-Kendall test. Analyses are performed for data from two periods (1931–2010 and 1961–2010). The changes in runoff are significant, especially in terms of lower QMax and 75 percentile values. This fact is also confirmed by the lower frequency and extremity of flood events. The 1980s are considered a turning point in the development of all hydroclimatic variables. The Mann-Kendall test shows a significant decrease in runoff in the winter period. The main causes of runoff decline are: the considerable increase in air temperature, the decrease in snow cover depth and changes in seasonal distribution of precipitation amounts. In the karst landscape of Slovak Republic in Central Europe, more than 7000 caves are registered in a relatively small area, of which 18 are open to the public. This paper deals with the analysis of the speleotourism potential of 12 of these caves, administered by the Slovak Caves Administration. Based on the obtained data, we first evaluate the number of visitors in 2010–2019. Using a public opinion survey among visitors, we then evaluate the individual indicators of quality and each cave’s resulting potential. ([email protected]) ABSTRACT In the territory of Slovakia, the chamois is native only in the High Tatras and Belianske Tatras. The fact that the Tatras chamois are not only the glacial relict, but also the vital Tatras endemic subspecies considerably increases their cultural, historic and environmental importance. To prevent its extinction, the subspecies was introduced into the central part of the Low Tatras National Park (central Slovakia) in 1969-1974. On the other hand, Alpine chamois was introduced into the Slovak Paradise National Park and the Vel'ká Fatra National Park Alpine (eastern and central Slovakia) in 1964-1968. A substantially decreased number of Tatras chamois in the last decade has initiated a large-scale range of activities aimed at its protection. Parasite infections have also contribute to the decline of the chamois population. The attention is therefore being paid particularly to a health status of both chamois population, including monitoring of species composition and degree of infection with parasites and its intermediate hosts. In the present report we analyse data from the study of ecological conditions for infection of chamois with lung nematodes carried out during the last years in biotopes of Slovakia. -

Here we were met by Miro, our host for the week, and after introductions and a quick snack we climbed into a minibus which was to be our mode of transport for the remainder of the trip. We had a few hours drive across the border into Slovakia and arrived in the early hours of the morning ready for our beds and looking forward to what the morning would bring. Image 1. Our research was focused on analyzing the extent and character of land cover changes in the Low Tatras National Park in Slovakia over the last 30 years (1990–2018) using CORINE land cover (CLC) data. The period captures almost the entire existence of the Slovak Republic. Therefore, it was possible to evaluate the landscape changes in the protected area and to identify barriers and possibilities of its long-term sustainable development. Based on computer modeling, the main areas of the land cover changes were identified, and on the basis of historical-geographical and field research, land cover flows were determined and justified in the studied landscape of the national park. -
