The electric pulse moves from the energiser through the conductors (wire/rope/tape) seeking any return path to the earth/ground (animal, grass, human etc). When the animal touches the wire the pulse runs through it and completes the return to earth ; the circuit is made. The ani- mal then receives a shock which is perceived as pain and effectively deters it from touching the fence again. 1 ENERGISER Powered by either the mains or a battery, the energiser must deliver pulses of energy that are suitable to correctly contain or deter the animal concerned (see below for thresholds). The power of each energiser is given in joules (pain perceived by the animal) and can variate from a few milli-joules for short strip grazing type fence systems to 15 Joules for very long fences affected by vegetation. 2 EARTH CONNECTION 3 CONDUCTORS 4 INSULATORS For the animal to receive a shock of any Good quality conductors (reinforced to The insulators permit the electric current kind, it is imperative that the energiser is withstand mechanical stress and ensuring to pass correctly through the conductors connected to the ground correctly via one effective conductivity) will carry the electrical without loss , keeping the maximum amount or numerous earth stakes. The energiser impulses over long distances without power of power within the circuit. The quality of the may require from 2 to 5 earth stakes loss. Different materials exist although insulator is important as power can be lost to linked together to achieve an efficient earth the most conductive are copper and wooden/metal posts, effectively shortening connection (see page 32 for more details). aluminium. the distance available to fence. Different insulators should be used for different types of conductors and UV protection is necessary for permanent fencing 5 TESTERS To correctly contain animals, the electric fence needs to have sufficient voltage and joules. It is important to perform regular checks with a voltmeter. The tests need to be made not only on the fence line but also on the earth connection. The loss to the earth should not be superior to 500 volts for the classic and premium range energisers and with smart energisers not superior to 300 volts for the energiser to perform correctly (see page 32). LEVELS OF CONTAINMENT BY TYPE OF ANIMAL : EASY/DIFFICULT A minimum of 100 mJ / 2000 V are necessary to keep the above animal types A minimum of 300 mJ / 2500 V are necessary for the above animal types 04 LINES : NUMBER / HEIGHT / CONFIGURATION + = Wire connected to the terminal - = wire connected to the terminal + + + + - + + + + + 90 / 60 cm 105 / 75 / 45 cm 90 / 60 / 25 cm 50 / 25 cm Wire and Tape (< 10mm) Wire and Tape (< 10mm) Dry conditions Wire and Tape (< 10mm) Wire and Tape (< 10mm) + + + + + + + + - - + + + - + 140 / 90 / 55 cm 120 / 75 / 45 cm 85 / 60 / 40 / 20 cm 100 / 80 / 60 / 45 / 30 cm Rope and tape up to 40 mm Rope and tape up to 40 mm Wire or netting Wire or netting + + + + + + + + + + + - + 85 / 55 / 25 cm 50 / 25 / 10 cm 30 / 15 / 7 cm 85 / 60 / 40 / 20 cm Wire Wire Wire or netting wire or netting + - + + - + - + + - + + + + + - - + + 80 / 60 / 40 / 20 cm 110 / 90 / 60 / 40 / 20 cm 150 / 125 / 100 / 75 / 50 cm 180 / 160 / 110 / 90 / 60 cm High Tensile wire High Tensile wire High Tensile wire High Tensile wire Every site and animal are specific, the above details are for advice only and do not engage our liability There is no definitive rule, often a single wire is sufficient to correctly The resistance of the animal can also come from having thick hide/ guard a docile animal. If an animal has escaped the system, it is fur or having thick pads (feet). The installation of extra lines will ensure generally because it did not touch the wire or there was insufficient that the wire passes cleanly through the coat or comes into contact power to disuade it from escaping. In the first instance, it is necessary with less insulated parts of the animals body (ears/nose/tongue to increase the number of lines on your fence and in the second case etc). Also problems with a path back to earth can be the problem; check the earth quality or increase the size of the energiser installed. installing alternative +ve and -ve lines may help (see diagram below) Example of an installation using alternating live and earth wires Ideally the first wire closest to the ground should be connected to the earth terminal to avoid voltage loss to touching grass. If however the first wire must be live, when grass comes into contact, it can be disconnected. 05 LACME INVENTS THE CONNECTED FENCE • Pilot your energiser from your smartphone • Follow voltage in real-time • Instant fence incident notifications See details pages 18-19 HIGH VOLTAGE AND ENERGY The CLOS and SECUR energisers have low impedance technology. Their "high tolerance" enables them to maintain a near maximum level of output power over a wide range of situations : good or poor earth conductivity, short or long fence, zero or medium vegetation... This impedance zone (in yellow on the drawing) corresponds to the most common situations found. ÉNERGIE (J) Thanks to the HTE technology, LACME improve the power of their CLOS and SECUR energisers : • More than one joule over a longer span • Higher voltage where it counts TENSION (V) See CLOS HTE page 12 and SECUR HTE page 14 to 19. EFFICIENCY ABOVE ALL LACME has placed the development of energiser efficiency as a priority givingunequalled performances in battery life and power. See our results on page 29. Electronic circuits, including customised This warranty does not cover power surges caused by lightning. transformers, are made "In-house". A dedicated team of engineers We therefore highly recommend the use of lightning protectors or is always ready and willing to intervene at the different stages and surge protectors protecting the energiser from surges coming from processes of manufacture. This equates to an optimum level of the fence or from the mains supply (see page 31). reliability and performance for our devices. P.12 P.22 P.28 P.30 BATTERY and SOLAR PANELS MAINS POWERED BATTERIES DUAL POWERED ACCESSORIES CHOOSING YOUR ENERGISER : 4 QUESTIONS TO BE ASKED 1/ Which animal do I need to contain or deter ? Because animals have different hides/coats, different hooves/feet and also their tolerance to pain, different systems are required to contain or control them. To simplify things we have created 3 groups of animals to help you chose the correct device and equipment. Small sensitive animals Easy animals to contain Difficult animals dogs, rabbits, poultry, cats.... cattle, calves, pigs, horses, sheep, goats, wild boar, wild donkeys... game.. 2/ Which power source do I require ? Type Pros Cons • Very high power in case of long fences especially when affected by • Higher risk of lightening damage(surge due to vegetation lightening strikes not covered under guarantee) • Maintenance free Energiser needs to be kept in a dry place. Mains • Digital technology provides precise data regarding fence condition (low • If the fence is far from buildings a larger amount of Power voltage, incident warnings, etc...) Insulated FISOL cable will be required to connect the • Switching on/off controlled from your mobile device (L-Box) energiser to the fence line (see page 35). • Mobile for remote areas without mains supply • Requires periodic battery charging 12V wet • Battery is rechargeable • Second battery required during recharge battery • Greater battery life using the ECO 1/5 et I-PULSE systems as well as • Strong vegetation reduces battery life additional solar panels • Risk of theft (anti-theft kit pg 31) power • Can also be used with the mains supply with an optional adaptor.
