ACROSS THE POND A HISTORY OF CHELSEA FOOTBALL CLUB TRANSCRIPT Chelsea Football Club is an English professional football club from London. They play in the Premier League. It was founded in 1905. Stamford Bridge is their home stadium. Chelsea's regular kit colours are royal blue shirts and shorts with white socks Since 2003, Chelsea’s owner is Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich. Among other trophies, Chelsea have won six national league titles, seven FA Cups, one UEFA Champions League and one UEFA Europa League. Apart from Chelsea, Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Tottenham and West End are the other teams from London playing in the Premier League. Chelsea are the only London club to win the UEFA Champions League. Chelsea’s most important rivals are Arsenal and Tottenham and also Leeds United in the north. Some of the most famous players who have played for Chelsea are: Peter Osgood, Franco Zola, Frank Lampard, John Terry, Didier Drugba. Frank Lampard is Chelsea's all-time highest goalscorer. Antonio Conte, Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti and Claudio Rainieri have been important managers for Chelsea. Many Spanish players have played for Chelsea: Fernando Torres, Diego Costa, César Azpilicueta, Marcos Alonso, Cesc Fàbregas, Pedro. ACROSS THE POND In 2011, Chelsea signed Fernando Torres for £50 million. Chelsea has played two Champion League finals: they lost the first one in 2008 in Moscow against Manchester United and they won the second one in 2012 in Munich against the Bayern Munich. In 2021 Chelsea will inaugurate a new stadium in Stamford Bridge. More than 40.000 supporters go to Stamford Bridge every match to see Chelsea play. At matches, Chelsea fans sing chants such as "Carefree" , "Ten Men Went to Mow", and "We All Follow the Chelsea”. Chelsea also operate a women's football team, Chelsea Ladies. Chelsea Football Club has been associated with the famous Pensioners, who are all retired British Army soldiers. Chelsea is always famous for its glamour and many celebrities support the team: Sir Richard Attenborough, Matt Damon and Renee Zellwegger among others. .
