2014/15 Partner 4 Growth Grants Arborg-Bifrost Connecting The Arborg Bifrost CDC is partnering with Pequis and Fisher River First Nations, the Community Aboriginals to University of Winnipeg and South Winnipeg Technical Centre and three regional Development Manufacturing manufacturers to offer a 5 ½ month training program to train 16 First Nations Corporation individuals to work in a manufacturing plant. The first portion of the training is classroom training which will be held at Peguis FN, the last five weeks will involve hands-on training in one of the manufacturing plants. Archie McAuley The McAuley Restaurant is a community owned facility that contains a restaurant and Community Restaurant grocery store. This building is also used by the community as a place to host special Development events for the community. The restaurant is a key facility in this very small community Board and helps to keep people in the community and bring people into the community for other business. This group plans to upgrade the facility and funding will be used for labour and materials to make these upgrades. Asessippi Videos and APT plan to design a new website designed for use on mobile devices such as phones Parkland Website and iPads and also develop new promotional videos of the tourism highlights in the Tourism Upgrades area. The videos will be promoted on the new mobile website by the organization, it’s 70 members (which includes tourism operators), as well as through community organizations like the Chamber of Commerce and municipal councils. Beausejour Business Public The BBDC plans to host a business investment forum to attract new business to the Brokenhead Forum region. They will be promoting new industrial lots, commercial development Development opportunities in Tyndall, Garson and Beausejour. Corporation Central Plains Central Plains The Central Plains Pembina Valley Tourism association is organizing the an Amazing Pembina Valley Agritourism Race style challenge where participants from around the province will be invited to visit Tourism Challenge - An a variety of communities in the region and take part in a variety of challenges along the Amazing Race way. Several of these will be agriculture related. Dauphin, City First The City of Dauphin plans to participate in a FICE project to provide a formal process for Impressions collecting outside feedback to incorporate into future community planning. Community Exchange Erickson, Town Erickson The Town of Erickson, RM of Clanwilliam and RM of Park plan to conduct a study to Clanwilliam determine the current state of connectivity in the region, sightline requirements and a Park Broadband budget to determine the feasibility and cost of providing broadband connectivity to the region. Fisher Branch First The Fisher Branch and District Chamber of Commerce plans to participate in a First and District Impressions Impressions Community Exchange (FICE) program. FICE assists communities to get an Chamber of Community outside perspective on signage, entrances, businesses, housing and amenities to assist Commerce Exchange the communities with planning and indentifying new opportunities for each community. Grahamdale, Steep Rock The RM of Grahamdale will conduct an engineering study to determine the need for an RM Breakwater additional breakwater at Steep Rock for boat launching. The wharf at Steep Rock is a Engineering very active location and hosts swimming lessons; families at the beach; visitors docking Design boats, and renting canoes/kayaks at this location along the eastern coast of Lake Winnipeg. The area is also a destination spot for hiking around Steep Rock Cliffs. There is increased growth in cottage development in the region and this improvement will help the region to become equipped to handle the current demand and expected economic growth of this tourist destination. Icelandic Icelandic The Icelandic Festival of Manitoba held in Gimli each year and is the signature event of Festival Festival Impact the North American Icelandic community. They plan to research and conduct an Analysis economic, social and cultural impact study of the Festival in order to identify and attract new business opportunities for the area in conjunction with the festival. La Broquerie La Broquerie The La Broquerie CDC will create a business database for the RM of Piney and La Community and Piney Broquerie, host a business forum for all businesses to identify strategic partnerships for Development Business Forum economic development. The forum would also include speakers on economic Corporation development strategies. The data base will be used for communications throughout the year to share training opportunities, business related information and to encourage trade partnerships. Miniota Valley Lake The Miniota CDC, Birtle and District CDC and the Shoal Lake Regional CDC are part of the Community Regional Valley Lake Regional Tourism project and plan to develop regional marketing materials, Development Tourism Project advertise the region in strategic newspapers, provide on line promotions and Corporation coordinate a tour for tourism operators. The group would also like to host Manitoba Best hospitality training for local businesses to increase customer service for visitors to the region. Minnedosa and First The Minnedosa and Area CDC plan to take part in the First Impressions Community Area Impressions Exchange program with another community in Manitoba. Mountain, RM Sclater The RM of Mountain is planning a new subdivision in the Sclater/Cowan area of the Development region. The funding will help pay for engineered drawings, site surveys, drainage work and legal fees associated with planning the new subdivision. The larger region has identified the need to attract skilled immigrants to the Swan Valley region and this project will help to address the housing shortages in the region. Niverville First The Niverville Chamber of Commerce plans to participate in a First Impressions Chamber of Impressions Community Exchange (FICE) program with another community in Manitoba. FICE Commerce Community assists communities to get an outside perspective on signage, entrances, businesses, Exchange housing and amenities to assist the communities with planning and indentifying new opportunities for each community. Parkland Ag Grandview PARC will conduct a study to determine the feasibility of building a new, multi business Resource Co-op Main Street unit on the Main Street of Grandview which could be used for a business cluster or Ltd. Renewal incubator. The study will also determine specific business needs and services gaps in the communities of the region. Parkland Ag Parkland Made PARC will carry out consultations, surveys and focus groups to identify economic Resource Co-op Local Food opportunities for local food production, distribution and sales. Parkland Rural Routes Parkland Tourism is a regional tourism organization that will develop a new marketing Tourism Highway 45 initiative to promote the communities and tourism features along Highway 45 in the Parkland region. The funding will be used to develop marketing materials (brochure, map), webpage, signage along the route, picnic table for one of the sites, and administrative support for the coordination of the project. Partnership of Regional The PMCR plan to develop an interactive web resource for its members and others who the Manitoba Database need current data about the PMCR and/or who promote the region. The web Capital Region site/resource will include a regional demographic/business database, as well as an overview of regional infrastructure (e.g. water, transportation and road systems), and shared information such as guidelines, environmental policies, tourism programs etc,. The resource would include a GIS mapping function which allows viewers to select criteria that can be viewed by geography (municipal level) and also can be allow users to customize data reports based on the criteria that is chosen. Pembina Valley Tourism and The Pembina Valley Reeves and Mayors (PVRAM) plan to conduct a feasibility study to Mayors and Marketing Plan determine how best to promote the Pembina Valley region. This project also includes Reeves for Pembina the development of a marketing plan which the PVRAM would utilize to seek Valley investments to enhance tourism in the region. Pinawa, Local Regional Socio The Government of Canada is transitioning the management of Atomic Energy Canada Government Economic Plan Ltd. to a Government Owned Contractor Operated (GOCO) model. The Whiteshell District Laboratories in Pinawa will be the first GOCO in Canada, but is being modeled after the successful implementation of this system in the UK and the US. Pinawa has been given the opportunity to have input into the type of activities that are being included in a Request for Proposals for potential contractors. In order to identity ideas for new economic opportunities and to understand successful activities and best practices for operating as a GOCO,
