Congratulations to Gemma B who has won the The reason for our decision is based on the finals of the 400 metres in the State Athletics feedback I have received from some parents on carnival. Gemma will now go through the ‘All how much they have spent this term and this year Schools” competition which is the national schools on other camps, excursions and sporting activities. athletics meet. Next year 10 will wear a red jumper and both boys and girls will wear the same ties which will be black with a Cammeraygal logo. The school has endorsed the introduction of a new jacket which will be additional to the school jumper. This jacket will provide more warmth and will have the school logo and can be worn by years 7-12. The sports jacket and sports uniform can only be worn on a Wednesday. I will provide more details and pricing next term and will let parents/ caregivers know when the new uniform will be available. Pricing for the additions to the uniform will be published on our website and in the newsletter when Noone Imagewear finalise the availability of the additional items to our uniform. Sadly we will be farewelling one of our staff members this term. Keith Rowe is our General Assistant who has been with the school since we opened our doors on Orientation Day 2014. Keith has been a huge asset to our school with his commitment and problem solving abilities that have been second to none!! Keith took on the job as GA as a favour to me after we worked together at Rose Bay Secondary College many years ago where he had just been happily retired. I cannot thank Keith enough for his professionalism and commitment to solving all of Cammeraygal’s maintenance, sound and lighting issues that arose and so many other things that came up in a new school. Keith is an absolute gentleman who we will miss very much! We wish him the very best in his retirement. We are also farewelling Sebastian Riorden who has worked with us as an SSLO at the school. Bas has been a great contributor to the school and we will also miss his presence around the school. Bas is doing his teaching practicum and we wish him all the best in his career in teaching. Thank you to all of the Cammeraygal teaching and administration staff for a very committed and dynamic term that has seen the school continue to grow in our offerings and outcomes for our students. Thank you as well to all of students and their families for their commitment to the school and its ongoing success and development. I wish you all a safe and restful break and look forward to seeing our students return on Monday October 9. Regards Kathy Melky Principal Behind the Office Window Dear Parent/Caregivers, Whatever is beautiful, Whatever is meaningful, Whatever brings you happiness….. May you enjoy it over the following two week break. On behalf of the School Administration Staff and Support Staff we would like to thank you all for your cooperation and support over the last term. Mrs Belinda Hayes School Administration Manager 2 Year Information We wish to advise you that a student in our school community is currently receiving treatment for cancer. This student will be attending school on occasion while recovering from / undergoing treatment. As a consequence of treatment, this student’s ongoing health is at risk if she comes into contact with infectious illnesses, in particular: chicken pox, measles or mumps. If your son or daughter is suspected of having one of these illnesses it is very important that they do not attend school. It is also important that while your child is unwell they remain at home until they are no longer contagious. Information on infectious conditions can be found on national health websites such as www.health.gov.au or alternatively contact your local GP. If your child has chicken pox, measles or mumps or is suspected of having an illness please contact the school immediately. This will allow the school to assess the probable contact and therefore exposure of our student to the disease. Notification can then be given to the parents and medical specialists. Faculty News “An epic journey” The definition of odyssey is “An epic journey” and there is no doubt that the journey that the 11 of us boys got to experience was epic. On Monday last week Mr Barraclough and 11 boys, 4 from year 9 and 7 from year 8 went on a 3 day journey out into the wilderness. We rode on bikes each day and canoed on the third. The bike trail we went on was pretty crazy, starting with an extremely steep downhill where we descended 500 meters into a historic valley littered with historic sites. But we then had a painful uphill which all of us can agree was a tough challenge. Since we were out in the wild we had to set up our own tents and cook our own food. No cabins or prepared food. There were also no facilities out in the wild, no bathrooms, no sinks. It was definitely a challenge to some of us. Even with these challenges we all had an amazing time learning and experiencing things we wouldn’t be able to usually in a school environment. I would like to thank Mr Barraclough and Optimum Experiences for the amazing time we had. Alexei Belchenko Year 9 3 Faculty News The Secret Life of Plants Cammeraygal Y9 Visual Art class was kindly invited to a Collaborative Art - Student Exhibition at Gallery Platform 72 with Ryde Secondary College Y9 Visual Art. The exhibition included amazing artworks from the 2017 Art Camp, which our Y9 Visual Art and Photography elective classes have contributed to. There are also some outstanding artworks such as the environmental-friendly plant sculptures that are made out of cardboard and paper, the realistic charcoal sketching of plants etc. Ryde Secondary College had some incredible photography, sculptures and crayon artworks as well on display. The exhibition was full of excitement, it allowed us to learn art techniques and ideas from other people’s artworks, helped us to improve our knowledge of how art could be interpreted differently with other people’s hand. The exhibition also fostered communication between Cammeraygal and Ryde Secondary College. Many visitors from both schools as well as the public came and viewed student’s work.
