Mr. Porter will perform in an intimate setting on the Hartwood Acres Mansion lawn on Saturday, August 26, for the Allegheny County Parks Foundation’s inaugural ‘Twilight Picnic for the Parks’ fundraiser. Then on Sunday, August 27, Mr. Porter will take the stage at Hartwood Acres Park Amphitheater for a free concert.” Porter’s accomplishments span a wide range of performing arts, including stage, film and television. He won the 2013 Tony for Best Actor in a Musical for originating the role of Lola in Broadway’s long-running, award- winning “Kinky Boots.” He brought that role home to Pittsburgh in 2015 to sell-out crowds with the touring company. Porter graduated from CAPA High School and Carnegie Mellon University, where he retains the position of adjunct professor, before heading off to New York City to begin his career. “We are thrilled to be featuring Mr. Porter at our inaugural signature event,” said Caren Glotfelty, Executive Director of the Allegheny County Parks Foundation. “Our communities have strong attachments to their parks, and bringing a Pittsburgh hero back to help us celebrate these valuable regional assets creates a very special evening.” According to the Parks Foundation, the luster of twilight will provide the backdrop for al fresco-style cocktails and dinner that will elevate the notion of picnic fare using the finest local ingredients. Coupled with the Billy Porter performance, the evening promises to blend summer chic with rustic sophistication to create a truly memorable experience in the park. Tickets are available at the $250 (Individual), $500 (Patron), and $1,000 (Benefactor) levels. For further information on corporate sponsorships, tickets or the event, contact Barbara Brewton at 724-327-7627 or www.acparksfoundation.org. “Twilight Picnic for the Parks” is a celebration of a new era for Allegheny County Parks, commemorating its 90th Anniversary in 2017. One of the nation’s largest public park systems, these nine parks contribute to the vitality of our region, improving our quality of life, healthy lifestyles and year-round entertainment. The Allegheny County Parks Foundation supports the parks by raising funds and managing major improvement projects to enhance these features and sustain them for generations to come. 2017 Summer Concert Series The Allegheny County Summer Concert Series will look and sound better than ever thanks to exciting improvements to sound and lighting at both amphitheaters.
