Eta Phi — The Pennsylvania State University Over the summer, the chapter learned the true extension of sisterhood. On June 20, Shelby Reinish lost her lifelong battle with VHL [von Hippel-Lindau, a type of cancer] just after graduation. She was a loving sister and had the sweetest personality, and it sent a shockwave through our entire chapter. In this dark time of sadness, sisters from chapters all across the country reached out to us with cards and letters offering support. They went beyond our chapter and sent messages of hope to Shelby’s family too. Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote that “When it is dark enough, you can see the stars.” We felt the true meaning of that with the comfort that sisters from all places offered us.
