the music community. The Augustana Symphonic Band spent 12 days in Japan touring Osaka, Hyoto, Hakone, and Tokyo. They performed with some of the top ensembles in Japan. The students of both countries bonded over the music despite being unable to speak each other’s language. Our sisters enjoyed sharing music with another country and culture, proving that music truly is a universal language. They also enjoyed touring the cities and seeing Japan. A special feature was the initiation of Maestro Hector Guzman, Music Director of the Plano Symphony Orchestra, as a National Arts Associate. The service was conducted by chapter president Marilyn Rogers and VP-Ritual Karla Wintle. Special guests for the brunch and reception were Maestro Guzman’s wife, Daisy, his brother, Ephret, and several spouses and others Friends of the Arts, including Chris Xeros, the chapter’s first Friend of the Arts, initiated in 1979. Our chapter hosted the Senior farewell for the collegiate chapter with a brunch on May 3 and affiliated a new member from Alpha Pi. Each year the winners of the American flutist and Jessica Koebbe, pianist. Theresa earned her Master’s of Music Repertoire Auditions perform and are presented their awards. In March we had a meeting at Arlington Heights United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Mary Spradlin played flute accompanied by Alan Kerr, piano. In April we met at the home of Amber Womack, former Phi B Province Officer. Her lovely home had room for Harriet Woldt and friends to “open their chest of viols” and perform on “instruments of the past.” It was a delightful program of Early Music. Hays Alumnae Our chapter lost a dear friend and a devoted SAI, Leona Schulte, on March 23rd. She attended every meeting and served in various offices for our chapter. Leona also served as Theta B Province officer. We had an affiliation service for two new patroness, Carolyn Miller and Amy Staab, at our March 6 meeting. We are delighted they accepted to be a part of our chapter.
