NFB provides world-class ballet performances, trains children and adults, and reaches thousands of school children through public programs and performances exclusively for students. We are proud to say that we strive for excellence at every turn. As the brochure highlights, the season begins in October with Dracula, based on Bram Stoker’s classic tale and choreographed by Mobile Ballet’s Artistic Director Winthrop Corey. Dracula combines athleticism, spectacular sets, sumptuous costumes and a dramatic musical score to create the authentic gothic atmosphere for this captivating work. In November NFB will present our 36th annual performance of the brilliant holiday favorite, The Nutcracker. This timeless ballet is a tradition among families along the Emerald Coast as the start of their holiday season. The performances will feature the return of International Ballet Stars Adiarys Almeida Santana and Joseph Michael Gatti in the principal roles of the Sugar Plum Fairy and Prince. In addition, NFB is proud to bring back Sinfonia Gulf Coast to provide live musical accompaniment. In the spring we are delighted to bring the world’s most beloved fairy tale to life with our rendition of Cinderella. A classical ballet in three acts with choreography by NFB Artistic Director Todd Eric Allen and Serge Prokofiev’s beautiful score played live by Sinfonia Gulf Coast. NFB will round out the season with our summer mixed repertory performance series at Rosemary Beach and Grand Boulevard. Founded in 1969 by dance pioneer Bernadette Clements, Northwest Florida Ballet was originally called the Fort Walton Beach Ballet. The name was changed to the Northwest Florida Ballet in 1987 to better reflect its geographic service area. The organization’s mission is to provide quality dance performances and instruction for Northwest Florida; identify and develop talented dancers; and increase appreciation of the arts through public education and outreach. In 1995, former NFB student Todd Eric Allen returned to the area after a distinguished career with Boston Ballet and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens to accept the position of Director of the Company. Mr. Allen’s talent, his leadership skills, and his extensive performance experience have contributed greatly to the continued growth and success of the Company. NFB offers world-class performances and training to the community, and reaches thousands of school children through public programs and student performances. In 2002 NFB opened its unique arts education program, the NFB Académie, offering superior academic education and ballet training to young students in grades 3-8 free of charge.

    ® 2019-2020 Season Overview JULY 2020 Report Summary The following is a report on the gender distribution of choreographers whose works were presented in the 2019-2020 seasons of the fifty largest ballet companies in the United States. Dance Data Project® separates metrics into subsections based on program, length of works (full-length, mixed bill), stage (main stage, non-main stage), company type (main company, second company), and premiere (non-premiere, world premiere). The final section of the report compares gender distributions from the 2018- 2019 Season Overview to the present findings. Sources, limitations, and company are detailed at the end of the report. Introduction The report contains three sections. Section I details the total distribution of male and female choreographic works for the 2019-2020 (or equivalent) season. It also discusses gender distribution within programs, defined as productions made up of full-length or mixed bill works, and within stage and company types. Section II examines the distribution of male and female-choreographed world premieres for the 2019-2020 season, as well as main stage and non-main stage world premieres.     BALLET INSTRUCTORS 2012/2013 MARION CHAEFF, DIRECTOR received her professional training at American Ballet Theatre in New York under world renowned teachers: Alexandra Danilova, Igor Schwezoff, Anatole Vilzak, Ludmilla Schollar, Yurek Lazovsky and Valentina Pereyaslavec. She received her teacher's training in Vienna, Austria and is accredited to teach the Bolshoi School (Moscow Choreographic School) syllabus. After dancing professionally, she directed her own School and company in Oakland, New Jersey for 9 years and currently is Artistic Director of San Jose Ballet Association, a non-profit performing organization. RIMA CHAEFF, DIRECTOR began her studies with her mother and was later a government sponsored scholarship student in Vienna, Austria for 3 years studying with Irina Borovska-Musil. She has studied with Rosella Hightower in Cannes, Zurich Opera Ballet, Saile Academy in Sydney, Australia, Boston Ballet and in New York with Sulamith Messerer, David Howard and the Joffrey School. She completed 3 years in the professional division of San Francisco Ballet School and danced in their Nutcracker and Showcase performances.     GUEST FACULTY • SUMMER 2017 Through the connections of our directors’ professional careers as well as our association with Regional Dance America, we are pleased to bring in world-class guest instructors for our students each summer. Dancers in Intermediate and Advanced levels have the opportunity to work with these illustrious teachers in the Intensive Program. This year’s line up is as wonderful as ever. Kim Gardner Pilates-based mat class Kim Gardner danced professionally for 17 years, her affiliations including the Oakland Ballet, Milwaukee Ballet and Alonzo King’s LINES. She received her ballet training with San Jose Dance Theatre, and continues to teach ballet there to this day. The directed the Dance Medicine Program at O’Connor Hospital’s Center for Sports Medicine for ten years. Kim is now the Owner of Align Pilates and Dance Conditioning in San Jose. She is a Certified Pilates Instructor with over 20 years experience teaching movement and dance. In 1988, she began studying Pilates at St. Francis Memorial Hospital (Dance Medicine Department), while rehabilitating a dance injury. She was certified in 1996. Her clientele includes dancers, instructors, competitive athletes and individuals affected by strokes, multiple sclerosis and other health/movement challenges. She also works with individuals interested in general conditioning and core stability work. She has developed programs that address a variety of rehabilitative issues and has given presentations on the application of Pilates-based exercise for injury prevention and rehabilitation to physical therapists, athletic trainers, physicians and dance instructors. She has memberships in Pilates Method Alliance, and International Association for Dance Medicine and Science.
