YEVGENIY UZLENKOV, co-director at the Dance Center of Segovia, Spain. [email protected] (+34) 617 209 405 He received his dance training at the Ukrainian National Ballet School. Upon graduating he joined the Ukrainian National Opera House in Kiev. In 1999 he joined the Joven Ballet de Carmen Roche in Madrid, Spain. After dancing in Madrid as the principal for two seasons, he worked with Ballet of Opera Nationale de Bordeaux (France) , directed by Charles Jude. 2002 - 2003 - he danced with Ballet du Capitole in Toulouse (France), under the direction of Nanette Glushak . In 2003 he decided to accept the contract of principal dancer in Victor Ullate Ballet and he comes back to Spain. Next step in his carrier was the proposition of the first-soloist contract in the Corella Ballet, directed by Angel Corella. Where he danced from 2008 untill 2011. In 2008- he collaborated with Leipziger Ballet (dir. Paul Chalmer) and Madrid Ballet. He has performed most of the male principal roles in classical repertoire, such as: Giselle, Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, Romeo&Julliet, The Nutcracker, La Bayadere, Don Quixote, Coppelia, Suite en Blanc, Raimonda, Le Ballets Russes, Le Corsaire, Esmeralda. As a dancer, Yevgeniy participated at following ballets competitions and International ballet festivals: 1997-Partaker at Aoyama Festival ,Tokio. 1999-"Serge Lifar de La Dance" International Ballet competition in Ukraine. 2000- Finalist at International Ballet competition In Paris. 2000, 2005- Partaker at the Festival of the International Day of Dance. 2003- He daced at Vail International Ballet Festival. 2011- he participated as a dancer in the correographies of K. Radev at the "Serge Lifar de La Dance" International Ballet competition in Ukraine. 2012- Art Festival “Mulafest”, Madrid. 2013- he participated as a dancer in the correographies of K. Radev at the International Ballet Competition in Moscow, performing on the Bolshoi`s Theatre stage. Yevgeniy has worked with world –renowned choreographers, developing and creating roles in many great ballets. Such as: Serge Lifar,Yury Grigorovich, Alexei Ratmansky, Alla Rubina, Tony Fabre, Hans van Manen, M.Bejart, Pedro Berdayes, Nils Christie, C. Wheeldon, J. Robbins,Twyla Tharp, Stanton Welsh, Uwe Sholz, G.Balanchine. During his career he had chance to work with many ballet masters, such as: V. Abramenko, V. Kovtun, T. Tayakina, N. Priyadchenko, C. Roche, V. Ullate, J. C. Lesage, C. Jude, N. Glushak, M. Rhin, O. Evreinoff, A. Monakhov, L. Carreño, A. Corella. As a ballet master, Yevgeniy had following experiences: Two years teaching at DanceCenter of Segovia. Master Class at Mulafest. He prepared pupils for the examination at Royal Conservatory of Castilla la Mancha, Spain..

® 2019-2020 Season Overview JULY 2020 Report Summary The following is a report on the gender distribution of choreographers whose works were presented in the 2019-2020 seasons of the fifty largest ballet companies in the United States. Dance Data Project® separates metrics into subsections based on program, length of works (full-length, mixed bill), stage (main stage, non-main stage), company type (main company, second company), and premiere (non-premiere, world premiere). The final section of the report compares gender distributions from the 2018- 2019 Season Overview to the present findings. Sources, limitations, and company are detailed at the end of the report. Introduction The report contains three sections. Section I details the total distribution of male and female choreographic works for the 2019-2020 (or equivalent) season. It also discusses gender distribution within programs, defined as productions made up of full-length or mixed bill works, and within stage and company types. Section II examines the distribution of male and female-choreographed world premieres for the 2019-2020 season, as well as main stage and non-main stage world premieres. Nicholson Assistant Professor of Multidisciplinary Studies, West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV, USA The parallels between the arts and leadership have been underexplored, especially in the context of classical ballet. An interdisciplinary exploration of ballet and leadership by a lea- dership scholar and a classically trained ballet dancer enable a thorough and thoughtful look at the intersections of these worlds. This will bring a fresh perspective to ballet’s unique culture, one often stuck in nineteenth-century contexts based on outmoded gender roles. Women dominate the art form yet few rise to prominent leadership roles. Data reveal unequal opportunities for women in areas such as choreography. Moreover, choreogra- phers embody a different kind of artistic leadership, crafting the way audiences view the dancers in the troupe. Men most often craft this view of women with the works they choose to present. A recent accounting of choreographic works by major American ballet companies showed that women choreographed only 25 of the 290 ballets performed in 2012. Thus, on stage, men largely manipulate the image of women in ballet. If ‘ballet is woman,’ according to the late choreographer George Balanchine, why are there still so few at the top? The example pulled for a new outlook breaks with outmoded representation. Bold, confident, and embodying a very different paradigm, Misty Copeland (American Ballet Theatre’sprinci- pal dancer) presents a different face of the ballet dancer/leader.

Photo: Alexander Iziliaev In Conversation: Angel Corella by Lisa Kraus This summer, Dance Magazine invited TD Editor Lisa Kraus to write a short piece about Ángel Corella, responding to his newly- announced appointment as the next artistic director of Pennsylvania Ballet. As PAB embarks on its first week of performances with Corella at the helm, here are some outtakes from their interview. Lisa Kraus: What drew you to Pennsylvania Ballet? Ángel Corella: I’ve followed the company for quite a while for many different reasons, especially because when I started with American Ballet Theatre my sister and her ex-husband were dancers with the company. I used to visit them all the time so I’m quite familiar with the company. It’s a wonderful company with wonderful dancers and a great repertoire. LK: You are coming from having directed Barcelona Ballet in Spain. I understand that funding was challenging there. AC: Spain as a country is very focused on sports and puts most of its money into them, especially soccer. They don’t invest in culture. Not only that, the tax deduction law doesn’t allow you to go in search of private donors to support the arts. So if you’re an artist in Spain you are going to disappear…everyone leaves the country! Like Placido Domingo and all the great established artists, they all left the country because there’s not any kind of support from the government. There’s a lot of corruption. It’s very, very sad. LK: So the prospect of leading an established company with donors and a strong infrastructure in place must have been appealing.
