Mixed Fortunes for Strakka Racing at Nurburgring Mixed fortunes for Strakka Racing at Nurburgring Career best qualifying for Laine but frustration for title contender Stevens at German GP venue – Strakka up to third in team title race Finland’s Matias Laine converted his best ever Formula Renault 3.5 Series qualifying performance into a deserved top six result at the Nurburgring over the weekend, 12th/13thJuly, but opening lap contact in race two resulted in a vexing retirement. Strakka Racing team-mate Will Stevens, meanwhile, rued two lower than anticipated grid starts for rounds 10 and 11 but the Briton managed to salvage a seventh place result in Sunday’s encounter where he delivered podium challenging pace. Laine starred during Saturday morning’s qualifying session, lapping with the sixth fastest time of 1m41.033 seconds (183.4 km/h) to only miss out on pole position by a mere 0.2 seconds. Light rain in the air ahead of round 10 threatened to have an impact, but Laine made a good launch and remained out of trouble through the first couple of turns to hold his top six placing. With overtaking opportunities at an absolute premium, the Finn spent the remainder of the 24 lapper holding station. He proved his speed, though, with a best lap of 1m44.676 seconds (177.0 km/h) – within just 0.1 seconds of top two performance. Sunday morning’s round 11 qualifying session took place in wet conditions and the Strakka drivers had to settle for lower than expected positions – Laine starting 16thon the grid. Unfortunately, his involvement in race two was over almost as soon as it started after a multi-car tangle at Turn Two. Sustaining damage, Laine was able to tour back to the pits but had to retire. “The pace was there all weekend and Saturday qualifying was excellent, two tenths off pole – it’s a shame I got traffic on my last lap or it could have been even better” said Laine. “We overheated the brakes in Sunday’s session which meant we started in among the pack. Unfortunately, that resulted in my first accident of the year. Overall, though, I’m very happy and go into the break looking forward to returning to Hungary even stronger.” Stevens had an uneventful first race and finished just outside the points-paying top 10. Starting in 12thplace, the Caterham Racing Academy driver remained there until lap seven when he moved into 11thposition but he couldn’t quite crack the top 10. Beginning race two from 10thon the grid, Stevens was determined to make up plenty of ground off the start and made a sensational getaway. Slicing his way into the top four, his hard work was then undone when forced wide at the first corner avoiding a collision. Dropping the Briton back to ninth place, following a three lap Safety Car period Stevens set about challenging for eighth but then served his mandatory pit-stop as soon as the pit window opened. When the race order stabilised following the pit-stops the Strakka driver held eighth position. Moving into seventh five laps from the end, when Pietro Fantin retired, Stevens stayed there to the finish. He also took away the second fastest lap of the race, a time of 1m44.488 seconds (177.4 km/h), which was a mere 0.1 seconds shy of the best of all. “Overall, it’s been a disappointing weekend,” he reflected, “Coming through in the races was difficult, overtaking was hard. Qualifying 12thfor race one and then 10thin the wet for race two was always going to make things difficult. “In the second race I managed to get up to fourth before the first corner but had to avoid the crash with [Carlos] Sainz and [Oliver] Rowland which meant I had to go off, dropping to P9. We had a good pit stop and came through to seventh, which was good from where we started. Setting second fastest race lap shows we have very promising pace if we can get qualifying sorted.” Stevens ended the weekend sixth in the driver standings on 84 points with Laine moving up into 11thplace with 37 points. In the team standings, Strakka Racing has climbed into the top three. Rounds 12 and 13 of the Formula Renault 3.5 Series will take place at the Hungaroring in Hungary on 13th/14thSeptember. Press Contact Nick Bailey, Propel Technology, +44 (0) 7813 956664 [email protected] From early domestic campaigns with BMWs and Aston Martins, Strakka Racing has evolved to become one of the most respected and successful privateer teams in the World Endurance Championship. In 2010 the Silverstone-based team achieved a class win, five circuit records and fifth overall in the iconic Le Mans 24 Hours. In 2013, it secured a second class win the LMP1 Privateers class at Le Mans. Ever developing, in 2013 Strakka Racing entered the Formula Renault 3.5 litre World Series single seater championship, regarded as one championship, regarded as one of the best training grounds before F1. In 2014 Strakka Racing joins forces with esteemed Japanese chassis manufacturer DOME to develop, market and race the Strakka DOME S103 chassis. Alongside the racing teams, it also runs Strakka Performance, providing professional racing drivers with bespoke programmes aimed at enhancing their on-track performance. Unlike many training regimes, Strakka Performance goes beyond the gym with dedicated track time and coaching in World Series by Renault cars. It has also created Zanardi Strakka Kart racing team, putting in place the building blocks to enable racing drivers to develop and refine their skills right from the start of their career with a support infrastructure that goes beyond any typical racing team. www.strakkaracing.com.

  • Pirelli Brings Latest Specification Tyres to the Hungaroring
Hungarian Grand Prix Preview: Hungaroring, 26-28 July 2013 PIRELLI BRINGS LATEST SPECIFICATION TYRES TO THE HUNGARORING Milan, July 22, 2013 – From the Nurburgring in Germany, the teams head to a completely contrasting venue for the Hungarian Grand Prix: the final race before the summer break. Pirelli brings the P Zero White medium and P Zero Yellow soft compounds to the Hungaroring, close to Budapest. This is actually the same nomination as last year, but with the compounds being softer this year, there is even more performance. The construction of the tyres has changed as well, with the 2012 structure matched with the 2013 compounds. These tyres were successfully tested at Silverstone last week, with the teams collecting plenty of data that will be useful for the future. Conditions at the Hungaroring are normally hot and sunny, which increases the work for the tyres. However, average speeds are low at the tight and twisty Hungaroring, which affects the usual pattern of wear and degradation. Rain is not unknown however, so as usual Pirelli will bring the Cinturato Green intermediates and Cinturato Blue full wets as well. Paul Hembery: “Hungary marks the first event for our latest specification P Zero tyres, which consist of the 2012 construction matched to the 2013 compounds. These tyres were tried out by the teams at Silverstone during the young driver test, who benefitted from the opportunity to adapt the set-up of their cars to best suit the new tyres. Now they get to use them in competition for the first time, and with qualifying particularly important at the Hungaroring, the work done in free practice will be very important.

RACE IN IMOLA SHIFTED TO THE 1° OF SEPTEMBER AS FIFTH APPOINTMENT OF THE 2019 CHAMPIONSHIP A new date for the racing weekend in Imola as fifth Italian F4 Championship Powered by Abarth racing weekend in 2019 calendar, which will be complete of 3 appointments on F1 circuits Rome, Friday 30 November 2018 – When the fantastic 2018 season has been recently closed, where success has been underlined by the great participation of drivers and teams, the Italian F4 Championship Powered by Abarth moves fast towards fine tuning of 2019 season, the 6° since 2014, year in which ACI Sport and WSK Promotion organized as first at an international level the F4 Championship. Since a successful Championship can, anyway, always be improved, the 2019 calendar is made of 7 racing weekends of which 3* will be held on F1 circuits, one more than in 2018, to permit to the young talents of the F4, many coming directly from karting and at their first experience in a championship raced with single-seaters, to experience and feel the emotion to race in the same circuits as their F1 idols. The fifth appointment of the 2019 championship has been updated from the 9° of June to the weekend of the 1° of September. The first racing weekend will be held in Vallelunga the 4-5 of May, followed the 18-19 of the same month by Misano, the only appointment on the calendar non matching with Formula Regional. The third racing weekend will be the 6-7 of July in Hungary, on the F1 circuit of the Hungaroring*, followed on the 13-14 July by another F1 circuit, the Red Bull Ring.

  • The Role of the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Hungary's Tourism
BULCSÚ REMENYIK1 – CSILLA MOLNÁR2 The role of the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Hungary’s tourism Abstract Formula 1’s business model is unlike that of any other sports series. F1 is the world’s most-watched annual sports series and attracts more than 400 million television view- ers on every occasion. Hosting an F1 race puts a country on the sporting map and stimu lates curiosity. Income from ticket sales comes to an average of around $33 mil- lion a year and has large influence on the economy, especially on tourism by generating income in the HORECA sector, transportation and other services. Formula 1 races reach a global audience and are keenly followed by avid fans. It is considered to be the most frequented sports event in the world after the Summer Olympic Games marked by high travel numbers. The Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix marks an important period for Hungarian tourism, as almost 2 million visitors have visited the Hungaroring during the last 25 years. This sports event attracts international visitors with increased tourist spending, which means a regular and calculable income for hotels and restaurants. The Budapest – Central Danube tourist region, where the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix takes place, is a well-developed and easily accessible area close to the capital city.
