Majhgaon Medium Project GOVERNMENT OF MADHYA PRADESH WATER RESOURCES DEPARTMENT MAJHGAON MEDIUM PROJECT C.C.A 9900 Ha ESTIMATED COST – 358.99 Crores BLOCK:- AJAIGARH DISTRICT:- PANNA CHIEF ENGINEER DHASAN KEN BASIN WATER RESOURCES DEPARTMENT SAGAR(M.P) GENERAL REPORT 1. Project envisages construction of composite dam named as Majhgaon Dam on Bada Nala a tributary to River Ken. The self catchment at the proposed site is 51.653 Sqkm. Having 75% dependable yield of 13.36 Mcm. The dam is proposed to have storage of the tune of 112.62 Mcm and out of which diverted quantum of water it is 92.44 Mcm from Bariyarpur Pick up weir at monsoon period from the share of Madhya Pradesh and 13.36 Mcm from the self catchment of Bada Nala. In present scenario when there is no Daudhan Dam, there is ample water to divert. But the project in planned to sufficient yield from the independent catchment of 51.653 Sqkm in between proposed Daudhan dam and Bariyarpur Pick up weir, even after construction of Daudhan Dam. Care has been taken to have availability of sufficient water for LBC of GOMP and RBC of Government of UP. Various studies have been conducted to finalise the yield, the study in appended Hydrology chapter, which is on the basis of recent 20 years data of G&D Mandla site of CWC and accordingly 75% success has been ensured. This yield is proposed to Transfer from Bariyarpur Pickup weir having crest at RL 185.013 m to Majhgaon dam through a water conductor system having three components as detailed here below 2. Water Conductor System : I) Approach Channel: A 20 m wide approach channel at RL 182.00 m from RD 0.000 m to R.D 2800 m is provided to divert 38 cumecs water from Bariyarpur PUW to tunnel. A very gentle slope of 1 in 9500 is provided in the channel. The Basic idea of providing approach channel is to create a water pool at the entry of tunnel. The velocity of water in 0.81 m/sec & hence a silt pocket has been proposed at upstream of the tunnel. II) Tunnel : A 5.00 m diameter lined tunnel has been provided from RD 2800 m to 4600 m with a gradient of 1 in 2000 to generate velocity of 1.92 m/Sec. III) Exit Channel : An exit channel in provided from RD 4600 m to 6288 m with a gradient of 1 in 5000 to join the Maghgaon reservoir at RL 179.94 m i.e. 2.56 m below of RL 182.50 m FRL of the dam. 3. Composite Dam:- A 4.4 km Long and 35.65 m maximum height composite dam having FRL & MWL 182.50 m , TBL 187.00 m has been provided to storage112.62 MCM of water. The Left Earthen Main Dam is provided from RD 0.00 m to RD 1123.00 m. Then a 137.00 m long spillway including non overflow portion of 10 m, having 11 nos. of radial gates of size 8.80 m x 3.50 m at crest RL 179.00 m to pass SPF of 1170 Cumecs. Properties of five villages are situated at RL 183.00 m of hence no floods lift in provided in the dam and flood in basin at FRL only. Right earthen main dam has been provided from RD 1260.00 m to RD 4497.00 m and two saddle dams are provided of length 1655 m and 1425 m Saddle Dam No.1 and Saddle Dam No.2 respectively on right bank. Previously the earth dam proposed with FRL 184.0m MWL as 185.00. But it was apprehended that the crest of Bariyarpur PUW in at 185.00 m and hence only 1.0 m drop with 2.6 kmlong approach channel may not be suitable for the hydraulic function of the water conductor system and hence the second alternate site was investigated by shifting the alignment at downstream, keeping the storage capacity same. This has resulted in better hydraulic performance of the under conductor system, reduced submergence area and property of 04 villages coming under submergence have been saved. A line diagram showing water conductor system and dam is enclosed here with as Fig 1. 4. Utilization of Yield:- Working table for 20 years has been prepared, which includes the 53.71 Mcm water for irrigation 40 Mcm water for Industrial use 2 Mcm water to domestic supply. 5. Canal :- A 23 Km long main lined canal at right bank has been provided to irrigate 9900 Ha CCA . In addition there will be Kharif irrigation in 2700 Ha. K. Sharma Abstract Infrastructure development is one of the driving forces to attain swift economic growth. It plays an important role in the reduction of poverty, improvements in standard of living and leads to sustained development of a region. This study is an attempt to analyse the micro- regional disparities in infrastructural development across 40 blocks of Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh. The study is based on secondary sources of data, obtained from various government agencies for the year, 2011. In order to find out the level of infrastructural development, composite score method has been used by considering 12 variables at the block level. The study reveals widespread micro-regional infrastructural disparity, ranging from highest score of 1.34 for Nowgong block to lowest of -0.95 for Buxwaha block. On the basis of Principal Component Analysis, four dominant factors governing the level of infrastructural development in the region have been identified. These key factors may be addressed on priority basis to enhance the living condition of the people and to reduce micro regional disparities. As per this DPR, the project envisaged construction of a dam across the Ken river about 210 m down stream of the existing Gangau weir. The proposed FRL of the Greater Gangau dam was 278.89 m and corresponding live storage was 2062 MCM. This project was expected to provide annual irrigation on 3.23 lakh ha in Chhatarpur and Laundi tehsils of Chhatarpur district and Ajaigarh tehsil of Panna district. In these proposals hydro power generation was also envisaged through construction of two Power Houses, one (PH-I) at the foot of the dam and the other (PH-II) on the left bank of Ken river at 630 m downstream from the first power house. The installed capacities of the Power Houses were proposed as 2 x 15 MW for PH -I and 2 x 10 MW for PH-II. As an alternative to the KMPP Project proposed by the State Water Resources Department, Govt. of MP, Ken-Betwa link was studied. As per studies carried out by NWDA, it was proposed earlier that the above said Greater Gangau dam would be utilized as the head works for the link. For this purpose, the reservoir at Greater Gangau was planned with FRL of 284.2 m with live storage 2544 MCM, keeping the other features similar as per KMPP of MP.

A mid troposphere cyclonic circulation lay over Gujarat and neighbourhood throughout the week. The monsoon trough had been very active and has remained south of its normal position tilting southwards with height on many days during the week. Under the influence of these systems, intense rainfall activity has been observed over central India and along the west coast. • Southwest monsoon had been vigorous over Saurashtra & Kutch for three days and over Kerala and Odisha on one day each. It had been active over Gujarat Region and South Interior Karnataka and Madhya Maharashtra on most of the days; over Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Saurashtra & Kutch, Odisha and Vidarbha on three to four days;over Telangana, Marathwada, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Konkan & Goa on one or two days during the week. Heavy Rainfall Activity • Heavy to very heavy rain with extremely heavy falls at one or two places had been reported from Gujarat Region and Saurashtra & Kutch on four days each, from Odisha, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Kerala on one or two days each during the week. • Heavy to Very heavy rain had been reported from South Interior Karnataka on five days, from Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, East and West Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat Region on three to four days, from Kerala, East Rajasthan and East Uttar Pradesh on two days each and from Saurashtra & Kutch, Uttarakhand, West Uttar Pradesh, Chattisgargh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Vidarbha, Odisha and Chattisgarh on one day each during the week.

    CHAPTER – 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 General This report deals with the feasibility studies of Ken-Betwa link after carrying out detailed survey and investigations. It is proposed to divert the surplus waters of river Ken at Daudhan (2.5 km upstream of existing Gangau weir) through Ken-Betwa link canal to river Betwa for meeting water requirements in the water deficit Betwa basin. The purpose of carrying out this study is to establish the techno-economic viability of the project after considering the water requirements in the donor and acceptor basins. This study is a part of long term planning of water resources development including transfer of water from surplus to deficit regions. The National Water Policy, adopted by the Government of India in 1987, emphasized the need for inter basin transfer of water. It states “water should be made available to water short areas by transfer from other areas including transfers from one river basin to another, based on a national perspective, after taking into account the requirements of the areas/basins”. The National Perspective is described briefly in the following paragraphs. 1.2 National perspectives for water resources development The erstwhile Union Ministry of Irrigation (now Ministry of Water Resources) and the Central Water Commission in the year 1980 formulated the National Perspectives for Water Resources Development, which comprises two main components, viz. Himalayan Rivers Development and Peninsular Rivers Development. Himalayan Rivers Development envisages construction of storage reservoirs on the main Ganga and the Brahmaputra and their principal tributaries in India and Nepal alongwith inter-linking canal systems to transfer surplus flows of the eastern tributaries of the Ganga to the West apart from linking of the main Brahmaputra with the Ganga.
