To date, little is known about the microbiota of lepidopterans, which includes some of the most damaging agricultural and forest pests worldwide. Studying their microbiota could help us better understand their ecology and offer insights into developing new pest control strategies. In this paper, we review the literature pertaining to the microbiota of lepidopterans with a focus on pests, and highlight potential recurrent patterns regarding microbiota structure and composition. Keywords: symbiosis; bacterial communities; crop pests; forest pests; Lepidoptera; next generation sequencing (NGS) technologies; diet; developmental stages 1. Introduction Insects represent the most successful taxa of eukaryotic life, being able to colonize almost all environments, including Antarctica, which is populated by some species of chironomids (e.g., Belgica antarctica, Eretmoptera murphyi, and Parochlus steinenii)[1,2]. Many insects are beneficial to plants, playing important roles in seed dispersal, pollination, and plant defense (by feeding upon herbivores, for example) [3]. On the other hand, there are also damaging insects that feed on crops, forest and ornamental plants, or stored products, and, for these reasons, are they considered pests. -

Crucially, the funding also enabled the Rainforest Alliance to cultivate a global market for sustainably produced coffee by promoting the product to companies and consumers. By 2017, about 10,000 Colombian farms covering about 70,000 hectares had earned Rainforest Alliance certification, and about 5% of coffee production globally was Rainforest Alliance certified. Other NGOs and coffee companies had developed similar but less-demanding systems, and collectively, they covered more than one third of Colombia’s coffee production. By comparison to other countries that produced agricultural commodities, that rate of participation was high, and the inclusion of smallholders, who were usually hard to organize, was distinctive. -

Abstract: Information regarding the spread and effect of coffee and caffeine intake by individuals with type II diabetes remains unclear. This study aims to identify the amount and sources of habitual caffeine intake by individuals with type II diabetes and to investigate its association with other health outcomes, especially HbA1c. This is a cross-sectional survey involving 100 people medically defined as having type II diabetes comprising both genders, recruited from a care centre. All participants completed a caffeine semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire (C-FFQ) to estimate their caffeine consumption, a two day 24-h recall, and a detailed questionnaire. The average caffeine intake Citation: Albar, S.A.; was calculated from all sources and the differences in mean by gender were tested using a regression Almaghrabi, M.A.; Bukhari, R.A.; model (adjusted to important confounders). -

Dear tired college students, There are a ton of e-books about coffee out there, and they all start with the same thing: “Coffee has a rich heritage brewed in years of science, steeped in tradition, and spiced by entrepreneurs and artists alike.” Or something like that. The truth is that for most of us in high school or college, coffee is not an art. We don’t have time to craft the perfect blend of java and espresso and milk foam. Sometimes we don’t even have time to rinse out our travel mugs between uses. That’s why coffee chains like Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts make a killing on us: they spend a small fraction of what they charge us for coffee, and we’re too busy with our books and phones and laptops to notice. Unfortunately, most of us can’t spend $3 or $4 for coffee every day, what with our student loans, $200 textbooks, and car insurance payments. -
