Such relationships are formed between people in different geographic areas, which determine their social mood and social behaviour. The signing of the visa-free travel agreement between Ukraine and the EU on 17 May 2017 and its entry into force on 11 June 2017 has become an important factor in the development of tourism in Ukraine and Poland, in particular within the border areas and in the context of cross-border cooperation of the Carpathian Euroregion. Tourists from Ukraine have better opportunities than before to travel to many European countries, and tourist migration contributes to the integration of peoples, building good-neighbourly relations and tolerance, economic, cultural, scientific and other forms of cooperation. -

2 Centers of Europe
Máté Zombory Centers of Europe 2 Centers of Europe Máté Zombory Chantal Akerman’s film, D’Est, makes a journey from eastern Germany, across Poland and the Baltics, to Moscow, from the end of summer to an ice cold win- ter. Presenting scenes from everyday life in the former Eastern Bloc in 1993 in a neutral style, without comment, narration or dialogue, the film shows the “real” Eastern Europe; yet in a way, that is somehow disturbing. The title, together with the journey of the camera, quickly brings into play the familiar image of the hier- archical relation in which the positive West assumes the role of a model for the negative East, the latter taking the position of the good student: the developing economy or the democratizing mentality. However, the journey that Akerman’s film retraces does not slide toward barbarism. With their lightness of touch, the film’s visual representations, pictures of city streets, apartment interiors or faces of people waiting in a bus terminal, jar with the popular image of “the East”. Immediately after the fall of the Iron Curtain, the viewers are left alone with the troubling pictures of a journey eastwards, pictures which are not stable and given, but uncertain and mobile just like the tracking shots in the film, when the camera effectively never stops moving. It is precisely this movement in relation to which the stability of geographic positions can be represented. The concept of Central Europe, redefined and propa- gated among others by Kundera in the 1980s, is a good example of the popular geographic imaginary mentioned above. -

Barkaszi. — The paper is devoted to the analysis of historical changes in the rodent fauna (superorder Glires) of the region of the Ukrainian Carpathians. The period from the 19th to the early 21st century is considered. Data on natural and artificial species dynamics due to extinction, intro duction, reintroduction, invasion, and expansion are generalized. Brief characteristics of species involved into these events are given. It was clarified that new species appeared in the region in the result of expansion (Castor fiber, Mus spicilecus) and introduction (Ondatra zibethicus), while reintroduction of glacial relicts (Lepus timidus, Marmota marmota), which disappeared during the 19th century, as well as introduction of Oryctolagus cuniculus and Myocastor coypus were unsuccessful. In addition, two species vanished from the composition of the local fauna: the rare Eliomys quercinus and the ancient commensal Rattus rattus. A recon structed checklist of the rodent fauna as of the early 20th century is presented and used in calcu lations of indices of fauna changes, checklists’ ambiguousness, and of fauna rotation for a century. It was shown that quantitative changes of the local fauna for the last century are nonessential (the index of fauna rotation is 10.9 %) because the number of lost species was compensated by expansion and introduction.
