(ACI) conducted a cultural resource assessment survey (CRAS) of the Lastra property in Manatee County for Next Generation Development, LLC. The purpose of this CRAS was to locate and identify any cultural resources within the project area and to assess their significance in terms of eligibility for listing in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The survey was conducted in response to a request by the Florida Division of Historical Resources (FDHR) (Parsons 2016) and is in compliance with Chapters 267, 373 and 380, Florida Statutes (FS), as well as Manatee County cultural resource regulations. All work was carried out in conformity with the standards contained in the FDHR’s Cultural Resource Management Standards and Operational Manual (FDHR 2003). The resulting report meets specifications set forth in Chapter 1A-46, Florida Administrative Code (FAC). Field survey was conducted in September 2016. A review of the Florida Master Site File (FMSF) indicated that no archaeological sites have been recorded within the project area. However, three archaeological sites have been recorded in the FMSF within a mile of the project. 8MA00033 was a prehistoric shell midden; 8MA00038 was a small camp site located on the Manatee River under what is now I-75 and 8M00132 was a prehistoric camp site /shell midden which was later excavated by ACI, and is no longer extant. As a result of field survey, no archaeological sites were found. Background research, including a review of the FMSF and the NRHP, indicated that there are no previously recorded historic resources (50 years of age or older) within the project area. Based on the results of the CRAS, development of the Lastra property will have no effect on any archaeological sites or historic resources that are listed, determined eligible, or considered eligible for listing in the NRHP. No additional work is recommended.
